Watched a bit of the game live, Man Utd didn't have to be that good to beat Fulham today. Fulham were simply atrocious, no effort or work rate anywhere on the pitch.

They were lucky it was only 4.

Fulham have been flattering to deceive all season,. Berbatov was a seemingly good signing (I didn't think he would be arsed tbf), but aside from that they lack quality with no Dembele and Dempsey. I can see them being dragged into the struggle, with Norwich potentially.

Interesting listening to Jamie Redknapp on sky saying 'If we play a high line away to man united we will get murdered'. I tend to agree. There are certain games that you look at he football calendar (especially at home) where you really expect saints to take the game to them. There will be times against man united when we will need to park the bus

erm yeah, so control them where they are at their weakest and give them free rein/leave ourselves exposed in the areas where their strengths lie.

You a skate mate or just educated from the Pompey book of logic? :?

What an odd post.

Playing our two most solid and dominant midfielders together - as we have most of the season - doesn't mean the other eight outfield players are going to let Man Utd do whatever they wish. Cork and Morgan are both excellent at breaking up play and linking up with our forwards. If we can keep control in the middle, we can not only stop their attacks but stand a chance of creating our own.

If we lose the battle in the middle by being lightweight, we are in a weaker position.

I must be honest, it's not the best start to a posting career I have ever seen. Either you are a compete arse, on a wind-up or have completely mis-judged how to behave on a fans forum.

Take a chill pill and relax Chalet, you really are getting yourself worked up over nothing.

We all know this is a skate-free forum. It was just banter and I was just teasing the lad (I'm sure Rob's only a nipper). It was all a bit of lighthearted, good-natured fun with a healthy dose of jocular condescension. No ill-feeling whatsoever. :)

Now instead of nitpicking on the new members on here, why not take a good hard look at the REAL trolls on these forums *coughhypochondriaccough* who've been trolling since time immemorial and do something about them.

Just saying...

Drink in town and get the metrolink to OT??? Not much around the ground other than the Trafford and that gets rammed and is a home pub anyway.

Home game for me this. I'll be taking my son but sitting in the Man U stands. Wigan a few days later should be a belter as I am with my own!

0 pts at OT and 3 pts at Wigan will do me nicely thankyou very much.

Any 1st hand knowledge of anywhere half decent in the Piccadilly area, convenient for train/ Metro to OT?

Would you go so far as to say he has "regressed to character" and deserves his ban to be upheld and never lifted?

There isn't much good directly around the Piccadilly area, best bet is the Jolly Angler on Ducie Street.

I really hope that Adkins wasn't sacked because we started playing a bit more reserved and we're not going to go back to the gung-ho approach from the start of the season....

If you went to Everton when we had Lambert, J-Rod, Gaston. Punch and Lallana then you would rather see us not go gung ho, They ripped us to bits.

no Morgan= big problem, no Morgan + no Cork = end of the world.

#saintsfc will be without Jose Fonte and Guly (knee) for Wednesday's trip to Man Utd. Lallana back in contention but short of match fitness

I'd guess Lallana will be on the bench, with no Guly Do Prado who will start wide left?

Luke, Fox at LB.

Lambert has been used in the withdrawn role before, he does like to drop deep and Rodriguez plays in the advanced role...

            Boruc

Clyne Yoshida Forren Shaw

       Cork Schneiderlin

Puncheon Lambert Ramirez

          Rodriguez

You then have Lallana to come on for the last 20 to 30 minutes. Not ideal to play Ramirez out wide when he is so much better centrally, but until Lallana is fully fit again it may have to do.

Posted

We play miles, miles better with Ramirez central though. I would rather he played there and De Ridder/Reeves on the left that moving Ramirez out of where he is dangerous, especially after he was class vs Everton.

Then bring AL on for De Ridder after 60mins.

Will be interesting to see if MP has much of an effect on the team performance for this one.

Would like to see an 'in your face' performance but still can't see anything other than a defeat though.

Posted

Surely we have to play Jay Rod wide if Guly is out? He's got good strength and can hopefully knock Rafael about a bit, wouldn't be a bad thing. Ramirez would be anonymous on the left against Rafael.

Posted
Ramirez didn't play wide Vs Everton. Lallana and Puncheon did.

considering puncheon didnt start or even get a second on the pitch...that is quite an achievement....;)

  • 12 Gazzaniga
  • 02 Clyne (Reeves - 81' )
  • 03 Yoshida
  • 06 Fonte
  • 22 Richardson
  • 08 S Davis
  • 10 Ramirez
  • 16 Ward-Prowse
  • 20 Lallana (Chaplow - 90' )
  • 07 Lambert
  • 09 Rodriguez (Mayuka - 81' )

I'd have thought that if you were to play both Shaw and Fox that you'd want Shaw at LB because he can actually defend, plus Fox's delivery can be very good on his day so would offer something on the left.

Unless of course Forren can actually play efficiently at LB and it's not something someone made up.

If I was you I'd much rather Yoshida and Forren in the middle, can't say I rate Hooiveld at all. Seemed to get away with looking good last season because he scored quite a few goals. RVP and Rooney will tear him a new one.

Maybe its time to give De Ridder a start, its a relatively low pressure game and it can be hard to find rhythm coming off the bench every game. Plus he'd offer you pace on the counter, which seems the best way to beat united.

The way to beat united seems to be high pressure in the middle of the park, every team that get in at their midfielders seem to win quite easily. Newcastle completely overran their midfield last year in the 3-0. MP tactics could prove to be very useful in this game. IF you sit back you'll get picked off.
