trousers Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 A tad premature to be looking at this game I suppose, but I was prompted by looking at the games that the sides around us have next week, and my conclusion is that I can't see many victories for our fellow "strugglers". So, all in all, we can go into the Utd game with little or no pressure to come away with anything (other than of course the manager no doubt demanding at least a point) Anyway....here's the other games next week and my predictions FWIW.... Aston Villa vs Newcastle : Score draw QPR vs Man City : Away win Stoke vs Wigan : Home win Norwich vs Tottenham : Away win Fulham vs West Ham: Score draw Reading vs Chelsea : Away win All of which would keep us in 15th place even if/when we lose to Utd. Sneak a win and we would be up to 13th with those other results coming in. Yes, I know, getting ahead of myself already....
Saintandy666 Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 I would say that we held Chelsea to draw, and Arsenal... but the Manchester teams are a whole staircase up from that, let alone a step. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I guess we could have an inspired performance, but I doubt it.

Thedelldays Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Defeat here. No doubt in my mind Which is no disgrace
Saint Garrett Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Anything is a bonus, but had them on the ropes a bit at St Mary's and caused City problems at Etihad. Not out of the question getting something but very unlikely.
fanimal Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Trousers didint you mean to say the CHAIRMAN demanding at least a point??

max_saints Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Defeat here. No doubt in my mind Which is no disgrace not that I'm thinking a point here is possible but going by your past few predictions, this gives me hope
ericofarabia Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Seems little in the way of Pub info anywhere - any top tips?
saints-cris Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 We'll do what Blackburn did to them last season. 3-2 Saints, we got this
ericofarabia Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 We'll do what Blackburn did to them last season. 3-2 Saints, we got this So long as that is where all comparisons with Blackburn end!!
Golac's Iron Gonads Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 I've had a feeling for the last month that we'll win this one. Almost had a spend up on a trip up there I'm so convinced. Expected a loss at Stoke, Chelsea and home to Arsenal but have seen that we can give anyone a bloody good game!
Appy Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Looking forward to this. No pressure on us up there, most places you can see us sneaking a result, but United at Old Trafford is an entire different animal. Wigan 3 days later is the big one, but obviously anything here would be huge.

Itchen_block4 Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Not much to lose here. -------------------Boruc Clyne-----Yoshida-----Hooiveld-----Shaw ---------------Cork-----JWP ------------------Morgan Puncheon----------------------------Guly -----------------Rodriguez Play the long game here like we did against Chelsea. Go all out from the start and Fergie will just throw on the old guard to win the match late on, like they did at St Mary's. Play them at their own game by throwing on Lambert and Gaston later on when they can't deal with them. We haven't got much to lose anyway and if we can see out the first half, it gives us a real opportunity to actually win. Raised a few eyebrows against Chelsea, but it did the trick.
angelman Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Interesting odds (from Sky Bet) Manchester Utd 1/5 Draw 11/2 Southampton 8/1 I'm not a betting man, but 11/2 & 8/1 in a two horse race....!

This would have been Adkins tactics in this one, of that I am sure. Wonder whether Pochettino will approach it in the same way.
View From The Top Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 The game after is much more important.
RobM Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 The main thing I care about from this game is the performance. I'm not expecting any points, but a good team performance will do wonders for us. That said, if we're going to adopt a high-tempo, high-pressure game and get in their faces, it's not too far fetched to think we could get something. Stranger things have happened than Saints beating Man Utd.
student Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Boruc Clyne Forren Yoshida Shaw Cork Schneiderlen Punch Ramirez Guly Rodriguez Will need the pace up top for this one
JoeShmoe Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Hopefully Adam will be fit and can get a start or a good 30 mins. I'd play Forren as well
Bwanamakubwa Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Boruc Clyne Forren Yoshida Shaw Cork Schneiderlen Punch Ramirez Guly Rodriguez Will need the pace up top for this one In principle I agree, but Lambert bullied Ferdinand and vidic for the majority of the fixture at st Mary's. Tough call.

Hooiveld against van Persie. Slightly worried by that.
trousers Posted 22 January, 2013 Author Posted 22 January, 2013 (edited) If no new signings, and Lallana is fit, I'd go with this.... Boruc Clyne - Yoshida - Forren - Shaw Cork - Schneiderlin Puncheon - Ramirez - Lallana Lambert Subs: K Davis, Fox, Hooiveld, JWP, Chaplow, Rodriguez, Guly, Reeves Edited 22 January, 2013 by trousers
Itchen_block4 Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 Hooiveld against van Persie. Slightly worried by that. Van Persie is a fantastic player. He'd molest any of our centre halves if we give him the opportunity. Their midfield is their weak point and if we win that, we give ourself a chance.
SaintRobbie Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 We'll get spanked late in the second half by a fresher ManUre who will absorb our early pressure with relative ease. Sorry, I'm going 3-1 ManUre win. Too much quality and we only have one game plan currently with a new manager.
Sour Mash Posted 22 January, 2013 Posted 22 January, 2013 We'll get spanked late in the second half by a fresher ManUre who will absorb our early pressure with relative ease. Sorry, I'm going 3-1 ManUre win. Too much quality and we only have one game plan currently with a new manager. I fully expect to get beaten, but there is no reason Man Utd should be fresher than us.
Avenue Saint Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 If no new signings, and Lallana is fit, I'd go with this.... Boruc Clyne - Yoshida - Forren - Shaw Cork - Schneiderlin Puncheon - Ramirez - Lallana Lambert Subs: K Davis, Fox, Hooiveld, JWP, Chaplow, Rodriguez, Guly, Reeves Strong looking 11 that!
Saint Garrett Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 If we do the same as we done on Monday we'll concede a few in the 2nd half. We looked knackered which gave them a look in. Need to be a bit more reserved against Utd I feel
CaneNero Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 Defeat but the performance here is key. We know Man U play sloppy at times so would be nice to see us exploiting that and see how MP has set the team up.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 No pressure. Big performance. We can nick a point. No shame in a defeat though. 3-0 about par.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 Interesting odds (from Sky Bet) Manchester Utd 1/5 Draw 11/2 Southampton 8/1 I'm not a betting man, but 11/2 & 8/1 in a two horse race....! Two horse ? the bookies seem to think it's one horse and a donkey.
Dangermouth Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 2-1 to Saints. Provided we get fit enough to last 90 mins and not 60.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 2-1 to Saints. Provided we get fit enough to last 90 mins and not 60. so Saintsfit isn't fit enough then ?
SNSUN Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 I think we'll lose, but with a spirited performance. Nevertheless the media will see this as a complete failing of Pochettino's managerial talent. We follow this up by spanking Wigan all over the pitch. It's one of those rare times where if you offered me a win at Old Trafford over a win at Wigan, I'd turn it down. Beating Wigan is key to our season IMO - perhaps the biggest 3 pointer we could face this season.

Saint_clark Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 We could do with Fulham giving them a real mauling in the Cup this week-end but as it's Fulham they won't. Total wimp side is Fulham. Not really, United having two bad results in a row would be unthinkable the way they're playing this season.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 Not really, United having two bad results in a row would be unthinkable the way they're playing this season. I meant a physical mauling rather than inflicting a defeat. You know like kicking Chicharito,Rooney and Van Persie over the stands.

Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 Have we arranged to do the Old Trafford tour and to take photos of their trophy room? If not why not?
Matthew Le God Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 Have we arranged to do the Old Trafford tour and to take photos of their trophy room? If not why not? Nope, they are planning that for the Wigan game next Saturday.
Dalek2003 Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 We will be lucky to get any thing from this match, in fact I think we will be taught a lesson Manure 7 - Saints 1
SaintBobby Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 Just put £10 on a Saints win. 15/1 on betfair.
