No idea what our reponse was (if its true of course) but imagine based on last nights performance (that missed header excluded) then the new guy won't want to let him go. Pardew connection, Ba replacement??

At the end of the day, football managers have less influence over a team than star players -one reason they're also paid less. Getting rid of Adkins is one thing; getting rid of Lambert -at least at this point in the season- is quite another.

Getting rid of Adkins is one thing; getting rid of Lambert -at least at this point in the season- is quite another. That's the pertinent point right there. We don't have another striker on the books who is even half the threat that Lambert offers us; it would be lunacy to get rid of him now. It would even be lunacy to get rid of him if we bought another star striker. What the club have to consider is, if we stay up, how effective is Lambert going to be as a first choice striker for a team who are looking to push on for a top ten finish (I imagine if we stay up this season that next season's expectations will significantly rise). RL showed last night that he's a real threat as a striker, but also somewhat limited in certain areas (pace and running the channels). If we do sign another striker I'd very much hope RL would stay to play alongside/as backup to him; though I'd suggest that if he carries on his goalscoring form he'll be loathe to play second fiddle to anyone.

As you say they (if you mean by they the management of the club) have indeed done everything they could to show they are not idiots. Getting Ricky - the natural leader - onside was just one of these moves and it certainly paid off in both his performance and in the attitudes of the others.
