Spider/Cork

Everyone is lavishing praise on our attacking four of Gaston, Punch, Adam and SRL and our full backs Nat and Luke, and rightly so, they bring us the creativity and penetration, but it seems to me that Spider and Cork's partnership in the centre circle has been the real basis our recent development. Our turn in fortunes perfectly correlates to Jack's return from injury. They are the real engine of the team: breaking up opposition attacks; picking out short, simple, effective and accurate passes; immediate high tempo pressure; sensible and aggresive tackling; excellent fitness, the list goes on. And dont fall into the misconception that they are purely defensive midfielders, Ive spotted many intellegent, lung-busting runs supporting the attacks and counter-attacks. They wont get the goals or the headlines, but their drive and determination will take us a long way. It's time we gave them some credit and some chants?

Completely agree. Since coming back from injury Cork has been a huge boost for the team - and Schneiderlin's determination and grit in the centre of the park really does hold the side together. They often go without real mention but their contribution is massive - deserve a hell of a lot more recognition than they get!

Dare I say it, best midfield pairing in the league. No other pair have such interchangeability of roles between them that make them a cross between old school utility players and cover everywhere midfielders that cover each other. One goes forward, other is back, one drives into space, other is looking for him to pass, one is making the tackle, other is there to win it or pass.

Cork wasn't his best this evening (doing the circles on the ball a bit too much) but as a pair I can't think of a better 2 to have.

Cork reminds me of Parker a bit. Rarely loses the ball, and probably better than him now. Morgan is just DC though. Just need to make sure he doesn't pick up too many yellows. With our more aggressive nature, I can see a few more yellows coming our way and thought Morgan was walking a tightrope last night

Can't recall either of them misplacing a pass, getting caught in possession or losing their man last night. It makes it so much easier for the front four to play creative attacking football, and the back four to concentrate on dealing with the front men. First names on the teamsheet for me.

Rate Cork, but last night he gave the ball away several times, one in particular lead to a very decent opportunity for Everton.

i'm not usually one to overstate the abilities of our players unlike the "Kelvin for England" brigade but i genuinely think Schniderlin wouldn't look out of place in any team in the country. Really has looked a class act this season.

I'd challenge you to find one single post where anybody says Kelvin should play for England. I think you've got that one wrong, like you did with Guly's contract.

There was a whole thread on it during the summer!!! I cant be arsed to find it but plenty will remember it. So it's you that's got it wrong sunshine.

There was a thread where it was mentioned that he might get third choice if his form was good and there were injuries. Nobody touted him to actually play for England. I know this as I looked up the thread a couple of weeks ago, when our keepers were a main topic of discussion. That comment was made and hardly anybody even agreed with that. So you can stop shouting me down.

I thought Cork was close to MotM last night. His willingness to show for the ball all the time, to close down on Everton players and cover space when the likes of Shaw or Clyne went forward was excellent. He just looks like a completely natural footballer who reads the game very well and is very comfortable with the ball at his feet. Having said that, you could apply almost the same praise to Morgan except he blotted his copybook with a few silly fouls.

I think you'll find i said "Kelvin for England" Last time i checked "for England" would involve a call up to the squad wouldn't it? Anyway, from memory it was significantly more than that. "outrage" that Butland was in the England squad ahead of him. KD desrved to be in the squad and so on. I also recall one when we were in League One as well. So you are right to be shouted down.

People saying Kelvin might get called up for a place on the bench is far from people calling for him to play for England. It's not even the same as saying he deserves to be in the squad. I understand that was you memory, but this time, like with Guly's contract, you got it wrong. Also, people saying Butland isn't good enough for a call up isn't the same as saying Davis should play for England. I can understand your confusion, but one thing doesn't really add up to the other, does it?

I think they are getting recognition now - G-Nev saying he was a big fan of the Cork and Spiderman axis we have.

Come the summer, think we'll get a fair bit of interest for Morgan - he really has been superb this season. He's caused a split in the fans in the past - mostly because some people didnt seem to recognise what a great touch he has and top ability to read the game which was always most likely to shine in the Prem compared to the depths of League One - but think we all probably agree that he has been one of our outstanding performers this year.

Worryingly Morgan was being talked up on the sports breakfast show on talksport.

Not the greatest of shows I grant you but he's being noticed more and more by mainstream media.

Wenger in double swoop in the summer for Luke and Morgan.

McMenemy on talksport from 12pm too... Keys and Gray already on the anti-Cortese agenda

It was always going to happen. Wenger mentioned him before the Arsenal game so its not like it's suddenly news.

This. More than any of our players I really hope he gets his chance on the international stage. If he could just add 1) a shot from distance and 2) that decisive, forward pass a la Song/Carrick/Xavi etc. to his game he'd be a Champions League player no question.

Its hard to pin down who is our "best" player, but of all our players I think Morgan is the one who could play at the highest level (including Ramirez).

Really, really needs a song. Spiderman theme obviously!

You are wrong. Quite a lot of posters said that exact thing in the summer.

and when we were in L1.

A simple advanced search for Kelvin, searching thread titles, will give you the only two threads ever made referring to "Kelvin for England". One is an ironic title by Adriansfc, where he says he doesn't rate Kelvin very much, but is shocked at who is getting a call up. Not a single post on the thread suggests Kelvin should play for England. The other is from 2008 and is mentioning that Jan Poortvliet thinks Kelvin should get a call up. There are a few more threads about Kelvin, not a single one advocating an international call up, which is odd considering there was a whole "brigade" calling for it.

There is a thread on who might get into the England squad after we're promoted to the PL, on this one I mentioned that if there were lots of injuries and he started well in the PL, Kelvin might end up on the bench as third choice. I didn't say I thought he should, but there have been plenty of odd 3rd choice keepers. Nobody else on the thread even thought that would happen.

It seems it was all in your imagination, but if you can provide 3 or 4 posts proving me wrong, I'll have to agree with you.
