From one of the best films ever made

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7747557.stm

IMO,the film was tripe,Mod's were plums along with rudeboys all thst Ska and two tone nonsense, people wearing crombies and Harrington jackets looked like numpties.

Scooters=hairdyers on wheels.

Norton 650 Commando now thats a bike.

Had many a run in with the Mods, and boy would the Mods run.

All of the above is slightly tongue in cheek, barring the bit about the Norton.

But i really did detest anything Mod,Ska,Two tone,Skinhead related as a nipper.

And don't get me started on the shortlived fad that was "Dressers"

Oh strewth, i'm old.

Rock lives.:smt035:supz:

I'm sure you are aware that the 'Two-Tone' sort of Ska you mention came about long after the Mods had evolved into skinheads etc.

The original Ska was the pre-cursor to Blue Beat and Reggae back in the late 50s / early 60s.

I am aware,as i had to live through the drivel whilst at school.

The Norton quoted above has the wrong cc's. They were 750 not 650 HTH :D

Yes, well that will teach Seatbelt to check his facts first. On his side, the Norton Commando was mainly identified as a 750 motorcycle and later as an 850, once Triumph had turned the Bonneville into a 750. Both manufacturers made a mistake in doing so IMO, as the enlarged engines then proceeded to gnaw their own big-ends away. Personally, I thought both parallel twins reached their peaks as 650s. The Triumph engine, most certainly so.

As to the Quadrophenia Scooter.. surely the one that would be sought after would be the one on the original album cover. It's a Vespa too, if I'm not mistaken. In that case, maybe the film one should be the sought after one.

Mods are still better. No class, rockers,no class.

How ironic,quoting "Motorhead"

Shut up you talk too loud

You don't fit in with the crowd

I can't believe you exist

I crossed you right off my list

Too much too soon

Way out of tune

[CHORUS:]

No Class *5

Ah baby No class

No class

No class

Way out you're way out of line

No buddy I can't spare a dime

Fade out baby that's right

No bark and even less bite

Your perfect smile

Betrays your lack of style

[CHORUS]

Too late ya can't catch up now

You face the wrong way anyhow

I know you ain't got the brain

To come in out of the rain

Too bad no magic

I'm afraid you're merely tragic

They appear to have written it in your'e honour;)

The Lambretta used in the film belonged to a lad from Highcliffe (name witheld) who was at Brockenhurst College in the year above me ('76 - what a year!). He had it all tricked out with the mirrors, chrome and whatever, and would often ride it to college. He sold it to the film makers for a small fortune - probably about £50 - which he then spent on fags and Faust at the Rose and Crown. I'm pretty sure they dolled it up even more before writing it off during the course of the film.

After they had finished filming Phil Daniels was asked if he wanted anything as a thank you from the producers, including his Lamby, he said no......

He recounted this story on Soccer AM the other week.

And while Stings (the "Ace Face") Vespa looked very nice a lot of purists would only ever be seen on a Lamby (i had a PX about 15 years ago).

HTH.

My first ever bike was a Lambretta GP125DL 2-stroke scooter. It was surprisingly quick, extremely economical and ran on an amazing 50:1 petrol/oil mixture. Even in 1975, there was still the Lambretta vs Vespa rivalry. Having ridden both types I can see why Lambrettas are so loved, but for the life of me, I can't see why people have a similar passion for Vespas.

EDIT: Found a picture of the model. Mine was the same colour. Saw it still running in Southampton about 5 years ago.
