Turkish Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 They just showed a woman on BBC who was holding a "one Nigel Adkins" banner, she said she was told that if she held it up during the game she'd be ejected.
Bucks Saint Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 it is a dictatorship and an attempt to censor views that wouldn't look out of place in North Korea. the best thing is it is another step towards the media understanding what an unstable nutcase cortese is , unable to listen to criticism and insecure enough to give out such orders. it's a shame the parents of the 12 year old hadn't stood up to the stewards and called their bluff , would have been interesting viewing for sky subscribers seeing a child marched out for saying thank you to Adkins. shame on cortese. Well said. Indefensible, but some "oh please just get over it, he can do what he wants" types will still try
Bourne Valley Saint Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 The bloke in front of me in the Kingsland had his banner confiscated before the game by the stewards. It said something like "Don't take away the Goose that laid the Golden Egg". Really offensive!! Can't believe what an easy ride Cortese had last night!! I was embarassed that the majority of Saints fans just sat there and gave silent approval for the way he dealt with the NA sacking and aftermath. I can't imagine many other clubs who treated their manager so shabbily would have been quite so quiet. Mind you, having the tannoy blasting out decibels right up to kick off was probably another master stroke by Cortese in the quashing of any vocal or visible disontent!! No mention of NA or the backroom staff in the programme, no thanks for what they achieved, confiscation of banners and face masks ........... yes, I'm really proud of our chairman and so glad that we didn't offend him last night!!! Guan 2.0 Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 The treatment of NA has been shabby to say the least. The confiscation of banners and making people talk to the media outside the stadium instead of inside even more so. But the same as North Korea? Please. Over there, such actions are met by people being beaten and seized, then disappeared. The same still goes on in the more 'liberal' China. So please do not compare the treatment handed out in these situations. Call it what it is, heavy handed, badly thought out, overreaction. No need to ride the dram llama home though. Btw, the original meaning of Dictator did not carry a negative connotation, and referred simply to an elected individual who was given sole power and responsibility to deal with a crisis by any means he saw fit. So I guess no matter which side of the debate you stand, that is accurate!
BadgerBadger Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 Why people getting so upset over NC and all his decisions, it's like NC is now the club, the leader, the pillar of doom - have you not your own mind, SFC lives on in it's fans, I don't need a paragraph in a programme to tell me what I already know, it's on places like this, in the pubs, in the stands, at work in the conversations fans have that is important. We were dignified last night and will continue to be regardless of the the twists and turns NC will take us on, we are SFC not the board!!

Toomer Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 In the cold light of day I can except that players and managers will come and go and even directors, most of what Cortese has done has been for the good of the club but there is a right way and a wrong way of doing things. The way he has treated Adkins the programme sellers, Andrew and his wife who had the programme shop were wrong Cortese has got no class he is just a spineless little gimp when comes to certain things. Sorry to say it is ****ing a lot of people off. To put it bluntly he is a petty, control freak who seems extremely paranoid. However, he is a petty, paranoid, control freak who is fairly successful, so that success papers over his many faults. Personally, just wish he could leave his negative side behind and concentrate more on his positives. But that seems impossible at the moment and he probably even thinks that his negative traits are a part of his success story.
Tomobz Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 It's amazing how many people don't care what happens at the club as long as we are successful. What if that was your child having his banner confiscated? What if it was a family member of yours being treated how the manager and backroom staff have been? What if we got thumped 5-0 last night, same attitude? What if we now only pick up another 10 points all season and get relegated, same attitude? I hope that at Wigan a vast following will be able to show a decent appreciation of a saints legend that has got us back to the top where we belong, it's not being anti the regime it's just showing appreciation to a great man, when did that become so wrong?! Up the saints!

I'm not condoning his actions and I do think he's an intrestingly strange individual and is ambitious to a fault but my point being that people are rattling on about a dictatorship and and North Korea and in the same breath want to hear and see NC, they want him to speak at a press conference, they want him to gush his pants off in a programme article about a manager he sacked. That smacks of a collective that hark after a dictator. The supporters last night were dignified and showed as a collective neither a Chairman or a manager is bigger than SFC, it's the fans that make it amongst themselves and that made it through the airwaves, that's going to be more important as NC continues his push for the stars......... Sorry to say it is ****ing a lot of people off. Ha, I wonder where this came from ! As I (also) said on Facebook last night, "Disappointed at the availability of white paper towels in the Northam toilets, Cortese's facade as all-conquering despot is slipping. Hitler never would have overlooked this." and " My main complaint with him is that he could do all the things he does to get us success and just act normally the rest of the time regarding fan policies etc and he'd be utterly adored." He's just so difficult to like because of the petty stuff, and it would be SO easy for him to just do the fan-friendly thing and keep all of us happy without impacting negatively on "the business". There's no "either/or" regarding good business decisions for the club versus fans' wants, the two should go hand in hand. Just compiling my list of Cortese's questionable decisions and I'll be back... Edited 22 January, 2013 by The9

This Charming Man Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 I just can't get my head around how people think this is an acceptable way for a football club to treat it's fans. Seems some on here have also forgotten why a football club actually exists... because of us. With no fans, there is no football club. Then again, I guess that's the modern way. Sit down, be quiet and pray to god for a tiny bit of success... no matter the cost.

When Cortese convinced Marcus to buy the club it came with a 20k average home attendance in league one... That's worth it's weight in gold. Not appreciating it and being constantly disrespectful toward the fanbase is like shooting himself in the foot. Luckily everything is good at the moment and the blind majority are just happy focusing on the promise of playing in Europe, it didn't work too well for Leeds or the skates though did it?! The9 Posted 22 January, 2013 Share Posted 22 January, 2013 (edited) Right, here's my list. Additional ticket charges on top of stated prices. Car parking costs which impact on both Megastore and Ticket Office purchasers. Has banned people (who had criticised him) from buying tickets. Ignored the Football League-wide fans charter. Fallen out with Le Tissier. Worst kit for years. Tried and failed to ban photographers for licensing reasons. Echo ban and banning reporters from the ground. put himself on the cover of the programme. Implementing a ticketing system which prevents disabled fans from buying tickets online. Seasons without a payment plan for STs and the short notice of ticket costs from 2011/12. Overseen the "loyalty points" debacle. Sacked a successful (and popular) manager for... um... vague promises about the next level. Former managers persona non grata in subsequent match programme Banners not featuring offensive or insulting comments removed from fans. Where's the Markus flag again ? I accept that some of these are opinions (eg worst kit), but he's chosen to do most of this for no tangible financial gain means he's not remotely bothered about what the fans think, when with the cash he should have access to he could "be a businessman" AND be popular. I think he consciously chooses to make unpopular decisions just because he can, there are certainly cost-free or negligible methods of doing all the things above whilst running the business which would get fans far more onside for when he wants to make a risky "footballing" decision. No wonder they appointed a new PR person a month ago... Edited 22 January, 2013 by The9
