Saints 0 Everton 0 - Post Match

Could/should have won it in the first half. Clyne and Shaw fantastic again, as were Morgan and Cork. I used to slag Nige off for his subs around 75 mins and people on here said it was due to tiredness, they were right and I was wrong - Lambert looked spent.

It shows how far we've come since the beginning of the season. Everton beat us easily at theirs but we looked like a really good side today. Thought Jos had a good game considering he's only just come back into the side but MOM for me was Boruc - the save from Anichibe was top notch. How many more points would we have if Boruc had been between the sticks since day 1?

Well done Saints. A great reaction to the events at the end of last week. Professional.

We do seem to have fitness issues though. This "great first half, poor second half" seems to be a recurring theme........

Indeed. We looked like the away side in the second half and it was Moyes bringing on an extra striker, looking for the win. Still, a good point. Boruc, Morgan and Yoshida were great.

Hmmm.

Was he really here long enough to influence the intended game plan, I wonder ?

Thought the runners from midfield/flanks were getting closer to and going past Lambert a lot quicker than usual - not that it didn't happen under NA; just that we sometimes stepped off and confused penetrative football with possession football.

Draw was a fair result in the end but should have been out of sight by half time.

But against an Everton team that have only lost 2 in 31 it's a good point.

Well done Saints fans, should shut the media up but sad that we have to leave it to the Everton manager to thank Adkins.

finally

Boruc sign him up.

Thought Boruc was solid, best goalkeeping display of the season.

Shaw was his normal self -class

Maya Yoshida-My man of the match, I think he's going to be a cult hero at the club.

Schneiderlin- There's people eating humble pie over Boruc, I need to eat humble pie over this guy, never rated him, but he's got better the better level we've played in.. Fantastic piece of business, class again.

Gaston-Looked a proper player tonight, did the ugly things, had a real spring in his step.

Guly-Worked damn hard.

Would take a draw after the weekend we've had.

Watched on TV and very impressed. Thought Pochettino did the right thing by not changing too much in his first game and was unlucky not to get the win as on another day, Ricky would have put one or two of his chances away. We were in control for the bulk of the game against a side that are 5th in the table so all looking very promising. As others have said, the match did show that the squad is a bit thin in some positions and its good to know we have Forren waiting to get match fit. Two or three other signings in the next 10 days would be very welcome.

Two clean sheets with Jos in the team. Would never have put money on that.

Thought we were a lots more intense when we were attacking a turn and change of pace that wasnt there before . alsp we pressed the hell out of them from the front a like strachan used to get the team doing . Think they need to be fitter to play that game because most of them were on empty by the end .

A point gained towards safety Everton are a good solid team , so we move on new era and new targets for the Bus !

On a different point, David Moyes did himself no favours by making a fuss when the ref stopped the game because we had two players on the ground, one with a head injury. Just shows how little sportsmanship some managers are promoting these days. Moyes seemed to be having a proper little paddy because his team weren't able to take advantage of the opponents only having nine fit players.

Yeh but to be fair he was top class at the end of the game giving credit to Nigel for the performance.

yes, however I want him out as soon as we can, did you see him loose and then get nowhere near Jelavic when Anichebe squared it? Lucky Jelavic is a shadow of last season.

A game of 2 halves if there ever was one! We looked vibrant and positive in the first half, and in all honestly should have been at least a goal up. Tim Howard pulled off a great save to keep that at 0-0.

You just knew Everton weren't going to come out and be as bad in the 2nd half, and they didn't. They had more about them and pushed us higher up the pitch, limiting our ability to play between the lines as we were doing so well in the first half. Ramirez become isolated and we become dependent on the long ball and hold up of Rickie Lambert, who was excellent tonight I felt.

The 1st half was spot on though, and it's exactly how we needed to play against Everton. Purpose and pace throughout the final third, and getting Ramirez in the hole - he will make things happen, as he showed.

Everton are a good side though, with experienced professional players and they turned the screw in the 2nd half. If Jelavic was on form, he'd have scored that for sure.

Overall, I think both sides will come out and say that a point is a fair result considering everything that's happened. Keeps our unbeaten run going, and extends our gap between the bottom 3.

It'll be interesting to see what Mauricio implements and changes over the coming weeks.

Hard to fault that performance, only a goal was missing. We closed them down all over the pitch and broke at pace often. Gully was a great example of this in the first half, he never stopped putting pressure on the ball. Morgan was immense but Corke is also such a composed player, they are great together.

Should have won the game in the first half.

Poor display 2nd half, apart from Boruc, as Everton started to find their stride.

Not convinced about Ramirez - is he actually any good?

Feels like 2 points dropped as Everton weren't at their best.

I look forward to Pochettino learning some English for post-match interviews ;-)

Not convinced about Ramirez? I know he tired second half, but he was outstanding first half. Not sure if that didn't come across on the telly but in the ground he was superb and ran the show in the first half. And I've been one of his biggest critics. It's no coincidence that we were poor second half when Ramirez wasn't in the game.

A good point. Looking at the league table, firstly the extra point gives us a bit of breathing space from the relegation zone (4 points gap now and a better goal difference), and secondly I'd say anyone from Stoke (whom the media love in spite of their boring style) downwards could be dragged into the relegation battle.

It was a decent performance in the first half. Ramirez and Guly were both very good IMO but both faded in the second half. Lol of the day to Puncheon and THAT chant. We faded badly in the second half and lost our momentum, but that in part was due to Anichebe coming on, who was very lively. Boruc's saves won us this point. With Lallana in there, we might even have won this game.

I'd have taken the point before the game, who knows what it'd have been with Adkins in charge - probably pretty similar I'd suggest.

Anywho, we have a gap before the next game, bring in some transfers and see how we get on. I reckon the new manager would be looking at bringing in a winger, a holding midfielder and a striker, but I guess we'll see.
