St Chalet Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Great first half, tired a bit 2nd. Professional display by the players.
Joey-deacons-left-nut Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Happy with that... Everton looked pretty solid second half.
badgerx16 Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Good start against a good team - maybe should have been ahead at half time, but hanging on a bit at the end.
Zlavik Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Would have taken 0-0 before the game so I'm happy! We played a good game!
adrian lord Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Need to get fitter of we are to step up the intensity as seems the plan. Squad depth is threadbare, it is much clearer now for some reason.
obelisk Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 After the 1st half I was disappointed not to have a lead. Overall have to be happy with a well deserved point against a strong Everton side.
graveworm Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Great first half, tired a bit 2nd. Professional display by the players. Second that, looked a bit tighter Early days
doddisalegend Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Good first half and **** poor second half. Should have one it is the first half really. New manager not off to a good start as he allowed SDR to actually get on the pitch:?
JoeShmoe Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Shaw, Morgan, Yoshida and SRK outstanding, still not totally sold on Ramirez. One or two more quality players and we'd be a comfortable mid table side. Hopefully we get Lallana back soon
Thedelldays Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Good game I thought We played brilliantly in the first half and should have scored Everton are a very good side and had their chances Boruc was excellent but Morgan was my MoM
alpine_saint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Well done Saints. A great reaction to the events at the end of last week. Professional. We do seem to have fitness issues though. This "great first half, poor second half" seems to be a recurring theme........
Saint_Ash Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Happy with all that, looking forward to a new era. Just wished we scored, we were the better team.
Bearsy Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 First goalless draw at St Mary's in two years. Apparently. So said taters.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 A great result for the new regime v a very good Everton side and thankfully no embarrassing protests.
DT Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Thought we were well worth a point. Ricky should probably have scored but Boruc kept us in it. We kept the ball better than usual, and pressed them more too. Good signs. Another point toward safety
Olallana Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Need a few more attacking options in the lineup/bench. But great for 60 minutes and a point I would have taken if offered before the game. Boruc MOTM for important saves. Morgan second for overall performance.
SaintRobbie Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Thought we did rather well. I'd have had us down for a loss before this weeks naughtiness. Content with that and MP will have learnt a little. Boruc did well, Shaw and Spiderman were super. Puncheon ****s when he likes then can't take corners
trousers Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Happy with that. Players ran themselves into the ground in first half so hardly surprising Everton came back into it second half. Good performance against a side pushing for champions league slot. MotM: Schneiderlin (is there a better ball winner in the league...? )
yorkiesaint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Good effort by the lads. Stars were boric, yoshida, shaw, and Schneiderlin. Everyone else a decent effort except Jrod who never got in the game.
The Kraken Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Well done Saints. A great reaction to the events at the end of last week. Professional. We do seem to have fitness issues though. This "great first half, poor second half" seems to be a recurring theme........ Also a symptom of only having Steve de Ridder and Steven Davis as available replacements. Even Rodriguez is more of a runner than someone who'll light up a game with a bit of brilliance.
jasonb Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Morgan ran his socks off... My MoTM by a country mile. The players were playing for the new manager that's for sure. Obviously professional enough to know they have to impress him but at the same time I thought it was a good display. Lacking a little quality at times but Everton are a good side.
MOSaint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Good point, on another day those first half chances would have gone in for us. Feel we need another creative midfield player to come in as we lack that extra bit of flair needed against the better sides without Ramirez or Lallana on the pitch.
jawillwill Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Does anyone know if Puncheon did a wee or a poo? Hopefully sky will interview him about it.
saintsmike25 Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Well done Saints. A great reaction to the events at the end of last week. Professional. We do seem to have fitness issues though. This "great first half, poor second half" seems to be a recurring theme........ I wouldn't say that, I think we just lacked the same composure in the second half especially when under a bit of pressure we wasted some very good break away chances by aimlessly hoofing it. I think Jack Cork had a poor game, Morgan was covering him all the time fortunately. Also, we lacked energy once Guly came off - he was excellent today.
max_saints Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 will take the 0-0, maybe should have converted one of our chances first half but a draw was a fair result in a game of two halves really. nice to see our goalkeeping situation seems to be settled already. only worry is that our bench is rather pathetic, usual suspects who I can't see make any impact if sent on. overall a good point!
Chewy Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Really pleased with how seemless the transition seemed. A very NA performance. And I have to say there were some star players at the back. Boruc (I was always in his camp) was top class, the full backs win out over every winger they come across, and yoshida just gets better. Even hooiveld looked good tonight. If the players keep hat level of focus we will comfortably stay up. Well done.
badgerx16 Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Does anyone know if Puncheon did a wee or a poo? Hopefully sky will interview him about it. Well the crowd were singing the latter.
Pilchards Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Morgan ran his socks off... My MoTM by a country mile. The players were playing for the new manager that's for sure. Obviously professional enough to know they have to impress him but at the same time I thought it was a good display. Lacking a little quality at times but Everton are a good side. Amazing performance from Spider.
LatvianTolix Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 so where were our fans during the game protesting against this terrible decision of Adkins sacking??? I thought it will be a boiling arena, but was a still water. only few times heard Adkins appretiation song!!! where were u pro-Adkins supporters?
saint lard Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Much more pressing the opposition very evident. the fact a few looked knackered ,infact if you could lip read ...lambert actually said that when he won a corner in the last few minutes,we could have pushed on. just show our fitness levels under Nigel were below par....hence always sitting further and further back towards the end of game....invariably leading us to concede.
Special K Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Should have won it but seemed to lack conviction, not surprising after last week. Positives are that Boruc is starting to look immense and Gaston looks to be inspired by the new South American manager. The rest of the team were as before which is very encouraging. Morgan is just getting better every game as he has done all season. To me the most important player we have. Hope he stays fit. All in all, well done lads. Well done MP. **** off cortese!
DT Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Love Morgan. 'Never in doubt' that we can stay in this league.
Minsk Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Great first half; ran out of steam and ideas 2nd half. Got to thank Boruc for us not throwing it away. Predicted a draw but still feels like 2 points dropped to me. We need to win home games, and we should certainly score goals at home.
martin_au Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 schneiderlin was superb, covered all areas. unfairly booked as well. boruc kept us in the game with some classy saves
Steel City Saint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Happy with a point and the green shoots of he new manager. Roll on the rest of the season. Also, a good performance to tempt any potential new signings!
Saint Sanso Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 I was as disappointed about Adkins as much as anyone, but MP has been here 3 days and this was his first game in EPL - and for me, tactically, he got it right.
pap Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 That reminded me very much of one of our more frustrating encounters in the lower leagues. Saints clearly the better team, but just unable to get a breakthrough. Everton came back at us in the second half and did well for a bit, but we did look the better side. My Everton supporting mates on Facebook say that's the worst they've seen Everton this year (as they always do when Saints look good). Good team performance; Boruc was excellent. It'll be interesting to see what sort of team we have when they are back from their break.
jasonb Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Oh and how good was it to see a goal keeping performance??? Didn't have a worry at all about The big man today. Great reflex save and some good keeping all round. One dodgy kick aside I thought he was great.
Dr Who? Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Over 90 minutes we were the better side. Everton are no mugs. Very positive indeed..... On to the next one
View From The Top Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Morgan is immense. When Lallana comes back it will all click into place.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Should have won the game in the first half. Poor display 2nd half, apart from Boruc, as Everton started to find their stride. Not convinced about Ramirez - is he actually any good? Feels like 2 points dropped as Everton weren't at their best. I look forward to Pochettino learning some English for post-match interviews ;-)
View From The Top Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Oh, & if someone had offered me 5pts from the Villa, Chelsea & Everton games I'd have snatched their hand off.
Mr X Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Pleased with that a point against a very gifted side thought no one had a shocker though cork gave the ball away a lot with sloppy passes in the last ten minutes. on a side note I noticed how smug Cortese looked on camera there's something about him I don't trust
