Wigan 37 16. West Ham 35 17. QPR 35 18. Norwich 33 19. Aston Villa 32 20. Reading 30 Was surpised when i looked because i didnt check as i went a long. Three years ago is the closest, but Stoke in 11th got 47 points. Number of teams earning less than 40 points: 2011-12: 5 2010-11: 3 2009-10: 7 2008-09: 5 2007-08: 6 2006-07: 5 2005-06: 4 2004-05: 5 2003-04: 4 (Everton were the 4th team, incredibly ) 2002-03: 2 2001-02: 3 2000-01: 3 1999-00: 5 1998-99: 3 1997-98: 2 1996-97: 2 1995-96: 5 Before that, the PL was a 22-team league.
