After taking charge tonight will be to take the team to Barcelona for a few days team building and training.

Good thing or bad thing saintsweb?

Is he missing home already? Can he handle the attention on him at the moment? Does this have echoes of Sturrock and the constant bleating about how they did things at his old club which annoyed the players.

Or is it a great idea to get the team away for a bit, get to know the players and have a few says training in a decent climate?

Will you believe this? Will franks cousin demand evidence of this? Over to the mongboard to discuss......

Same thing that Man Utd are doing, they are going to Qatar for a few days so I would say it's probably down to the weather.

Should be good bonding for the team and manager. Adkins little trip away to that posh hotel seemed to help as well.

Will we get YouTube clips of the players laughing and smiling. Posing for pictures with Barcelona fans and eating in the local tapas bars???

The last time SFC and Barcelona were in the same country we came home with Ronnie Eklund. More of the same please MP.

I imagine Frankie will be too busy fielding calls from Sky Sports News, BBC Five Live, and the national press to respond on here.

His opinion is just as important as Matthew Le Tissier's apparently. Although not as important as Ghandi's. That would be ridiculous.

I think it's a great idea so we get all the players to speak spanish so when we are on the pitch the other team will not know what we are doing.

Tsk. They speak Catalonian in Barcelona you heathen.

It was first mooted on twitter 2 days ago so it must be true...

@oriolvidal23: Pochettino wants to bring Southampton to Barcelona to do a stage. The team would train at Lluís Companys from tuesday to saturday. #saintsfc

Makes sense. NA was saying about going to Spain anyway.

With the weather here and no FA Cup game it is sensible.

Yeah thought I could remember a previous mention of us going away. Makes sense with a blank weekend at this time of the season.

Is that the old Olympic stadium?

Good chance to get some good training in where the weather will be better and gives the manager time to get to know the players and vice versa. We don't have a game until the 29th so no issues in doing this now.

Great plan - makes perfect sense.

Get the players away to 're-bond' and get the chance to understand how the new guy wants to work, his vision etc.

And do so in a decent setting with some sunshine.

Come back refreshed, energised and focus on the 'New Southampton'.

A touch off topic but if we come from behind tonight we could run with this..

Ooooooo the Pochettino Oooooo the Pochettino,

You put a Striker on

You take a Defender off

We pass it from the back and we pass it all about

You do the Pochettino and we turn it around

That's what he's all about...hey!

oooooooo the Pochettino

my source tells me the trip was booked last february. i cant believe its taken so long to get the guy on board.

can't be right, we could not possibly have known that we were going out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round. There was a trip arranged to Malta in the next IB but I think we moved that forward to the gap in the fixtures occasioned by the Chelsea game postponement. I'm sure they went to Malta and kept PDQ about it. Sunseekers thingy and then they were woefully bad against Sunderland.

Source may be doubtful as last Feb we didn't even know which league we would be in this year, let alone what gap there might be in the fixture list. This gap only opened up when we were knocked out of the cup by Chelsea. As others have said, a week of slightly warmer weather training must be a help at this time of the year and it does make sense to go somewhere where the manager will be able to facilitate any local help needed.

Seems sensible if true.

Get away from any unwanted attention, nicer climate, chance to get to know each other.

Why not?

Don't think it smacks of a sturrock 'this is how we did things at Plymouth' mentality then?

Maybe we deliberately lost in the cup so we could do this trip? It's all staring to fall into place now....

but would we have lost if we'd been drawn at home to say Gillingham ? I believe we let it go against Chelsea in the cup though once it was obvious that we couldn't win outright.

Not really.

It's not exactly uncommon for clubs to go away on training camps when they have time between fixtures.

Pretty sure this isn't even the first time saints have done it this season.

Wouldn't be massively surprised if this planned previously, and Adkins would have been taking the same session if still in charge.

Indeed someone will need to post the flight ticket stubs and we need to see a photo of the side standing next to Messi with one of the guys holding up the days paper

I will humour you and repsond as everyone else ignored you which must bruise your fragile ego. This way your post may get noticed again and some may even be amazed by its relevance and sophistication, or maybe not. It is quite comical how you so often fail to grasp the meaning of so many posts and make yourself look such a **** by replying in haste... READ carefully, take some time to digest the concept and form a reasonsed response - would greatly enhanse teh credibilty of your posts darling.

Well I thought it was funny.

Nice spelling of the again, so he is accurate too.

good move, from what I have heard he needs every opportunity to bond with them

Wouldn't be a surprise. He needs to prove himself to the players as much as he needs to learn the squad. What better way then to escape the current weather conditions and take the squad to a more familiar environment for him.

I am just surprized he managed to crawl past Hypo, extract himself long enough from within your bowels to actually read posts and reply... must be getting a bit crowded in there Turks, suggest you take something for it.

First off, I'd like to call on all Southampton home boys to keep 'em peeled around pie emporiums, fish and chip shops, pizza parlours or the venerated kebab shops of our fair city. Turkish is correct to raise the Sturrock factor, so if you see MP tucking into a large donner meat pizza for example, flag your concern.
