trousers Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 (edited) http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-fc-club-captain-kelvin-1547418 “I can understand Southampton fans’ frustrations after what Nigel did in the time he was here. He did an outstanding job. I was part of a lot of that success myself. “The club has come a long way in a short space of time but as a Southampton fan you have got to have a little bit of trust in the club and the ambitions they have got. “They have not made too many bad decisions so far. They know what they are doing. Davis is also sure the players will put aside their liking for Adkins and be professional when it comes to working with the new regime. He said: “We had a very good training session with the new manager on Saturday and met the staff. “When Mauricio first introduced himself you could see people sit up and listen. He has got that aura to him. “The players will be very professional. We are fortunate to have very professional players and we are going to give 100 per cent for the club. “The board see another path, another route now. I am sure getting rid of Nigel was not an easy decision to make. “The ambition from the top is endless. It is to be at the very top. Staying in the Premier League is the absolute minimum aim.”” Edited 20 January, 2013 by trousers
Appy Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 I really can't see Pochettino getting much abuse at all tomorrow.
pingwing Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 For the love of god this better not get Kelvin picked for Everton at home. Hopefully the new guy has seen he's crap in goal...
Sour Mash Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 I really can't see Pochettino getting much abuse at all tomorrow. I don't think there was ever any chance of that happening.
trousers Posted 21 January, 2013 Author Posted 21 January, 2013 (edited) Extended version of the same interview in the Sun... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4754301/Saints-keeper-pleads-with-protesting-fans-after-Adkins-axe.html Davis was among a three-player delegation Pochettino requested to meet before being unveiled as Adkins replacement on Friday. Saints’ longest-serving player added: “He wanted to meet a couple of players before meeting the whole squad. It was a relaxed meeting. “With all we have achieved in the past couple of years, he wanted to make sure the players were behind him. “Mauricio told us he was happy to be here and that he feels he can improve every one of us as players. DJ_TOAST Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 strange he was allowed to do interview for Mirror, their not normally allowed to do interviews outside of Saints website. Guess part of the PR train to convince us everything is ok and players happy.
max_saints Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 “When Mauricio first introduced himself you could see people sit up and listen. He has got that aura to him. so, is that to MP's or the translator's credit?
trousers Posted 21 January, 2013 Author Posted 21 January, 2013 (edited) The Daily Mail takes a slightly different angle... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2265624/Southamptons-new-boss-Mauricio-Pochettino-needs-interpreter-speak-English.html New Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino had to use an interpreter during a first speech to his new players as fears grow over his lack of English. He had to rely heavily on assistants Toni Jimenez Sistachs and Toni Borrell, who have better English, to get his message across. Southampton players are said to have been impressed by Saturday’s session, but have privately expressed worries over Pochettino’s appointment, particularly regarding the language barrier. Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 At last, some tangible proof that the sensible money is on supporting the club rather than handing a win on plate to Everton.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Does seem like a break from tradition. The interview with Davis appears to have been syndicated to several tabloids too. I think it speaks volumes about why KD is club Captain - highly professional sportsman and a servant of the Club.
LiamSFC Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 The photo caption: "Very sensitive to vibrations: Soton cat Kelvin Davis does not want to hear a lot of negative stuff about how everyone loved Nigel Adkins, and don't like the new bloke" ... are they for real?

stknowle Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 The photo caption: "Very sensitive to vibrations: Soton cat Kelvin Davis does not want to hear a lot of negative stuff about how everyone loved Nigel Adkins, and don't like the new bloke" ... are they for real? Haha. Utterly ridiculous. 'sensitive to vibrations' lol, and as for 'cat'....
St.Patrik Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 So does this means Kelvin will start tonight then : /
Glasgow_Saint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 More players toeing the party line........ This is cringeworthy and highly embarrasing Good news for NC, there are a lot of suckers in the Saints fanbase
Gingeletiss Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-fc-club-captain-kelvin-1547418 I think this part of his statement should be given some credence! I think negativity from the stands can have a massive impact. We experienced that ourselves at Chelsea. It comes on to the pitch and gets into the players’ heads.
wild-saint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 More players toeing the party line........ This is cringeworthy and highly embarrasing Good news for NC, there are a lot of suckers in the Saints fanbase why so? the players just want to do well and make the most of thier chance in the premier league. maybe they are a little more grown up than you are being and accept change happens, they arent in control of it and perhaps that adkins at the helm isnt the only way to get where they want to be. ultimately its the players talent that wins game and that hAsnt disappeared just because of a change in management. would i have made the change , no i wouldnt but then i see no point in going down your road of seeemingly wanting it to fail because you dont agree with the decision. you seem like a spoilt child who is stamping his feet because he isnt geting his own way. to the point of calling the new boss pinnochio and having oic on your avatar. frankly its slightly pathetic to be honest. i bet you cant wait to wave your white hankie at your monitor at kick off tonight. that will show them FFS

I used to be niave once too I will need to wait for the Mirror to print the "exclusive" (again) before you trust Glasgow_saint
Norm Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Who gave Steve Grant the right to talk on behalf of Saints fans FFS?? Perhaps this will help? But fan Steve Grant, who runs SaintsWeb — Southampton’s largest internet forum, Don't think the media will come knocking on my door (or yours) for my opinion.
pap Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 More players toeing the party line........ This is cringeworthy and highly embarrasing Good news for NC, there are a lot of suckers in the Saints fanbase I am looking for officers for a new conspiracy website.....
St_Tel49 Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Who gave Steve Grant the right to talk on behalf of Saints fans FFS?? I don't see him claiming to speak on behalf of Saints supporters. He probably got rung by a journalist, asked for his reaction , and gave it. I didn't notice him saying anything I radically disagreed with.
Patrick Bateman Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 I really can't see Pochettino getting much abuse at all tomorrow. I don't think that would have happened anyway - no right-minded Saints fan will do that.

I used to be niave once too I will need to wait for the Mirror to print the "exclusive" (again) before you trust Glasgow_saint i doubt they have been told to saybpositive stuff. like any management change most employees will say the right things for thier own benefit as everyone wants to improve thier career and get off on the right foot. im sure privately most are disappointed but probably within a few days just get on with job and look to impress the new boss. the king is dead and all that.
Patrick Bateman Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 i doubt they have been told to saybpositive stuff. like any management change most employees will say the right things for thier own benefit as everyone wants to improve thier career and get off on the right foot. im sure privately most are disappointed but probably within a few days just get on with job and look to impress the new boss. the king is dead and all that. Exactly. Anyone who has seen a popular Director, CEO etc., been forced out the company and replaced with another will go through the same. You are gutted as you enjoyed working for the former and wish them the best if you see them and all that, but once the new guy comes in, paints a new vision and is the sort of person who can get people's attention, then you start thinking; "Yes, I like this guy, I like his vision, this could work" and you do your best to make yourself known.
Crab Lungs Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Players are/were confused and angry... Dont let job for life Kelv fool you

Sour Mash Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 then you start thinking; "Yes, I like this guy, I like his vision, this could work" and you do your best to make yourself known. Please tell me you don't really say things like this?
Thedelldays Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 this is just run of the mill interview by a media trained professional footballer......they are not following a 'party' line....and I doubt they are all mega excited about the new man....their old, probably popular boss has gone...someone else has come in and they will get on with it and do their best to survive in the premier league.....
Pancake Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 But fan Steve Grant, who runs SaintsWeb — Southampton’s largest internet forum, I can picture the scene in Baj's bedsit righ now, sitting there crying in to his cornflake "Why, Steve, why... it was my baby too. **** YOU STEVE, **** YOU!"
Bearsy Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 I can picture the scene in Baj's bedsit righ now, sitting there crying in to his cornflake "Why, Steve, why... it was my baby too. **** YOU STEVE, **** YOU!" The tension at the next curry night will be palpable. I could see this breaking up the band.
Patrick Bateman Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Please tell me you don't really say things like this? Yes and it's true. When someone who is a good leader comes in and replaces someone popular, this always happens without fail. I start a new job in March (still got another 2 months notice to go, grrr) and I'll have a team to win over as well. Was just reading this actually; http://realbusiness.co.uk/article/17026-the-5-mistakes--youll-make-as-a-business-leader I think the Don should take note of point number 1 ... "Acting like a mini-dictator will do you no good, and in the end, your ambition might be your downfall."
pingwing Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Nah, Guly is starting in goal. Phew, seems to have the best chance of catching a cross...
derry Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Everybody is going on about the Chelsea situation but there is a considerable difference between the perception of fans for their respective new man. Whilst Pochettino comes with a clean sheet there was considerable dislike at Chelsea prior to his arrival due to his anti Chelsea attitude while at Liverpool. I think the average fan knows we have to get on with it however much we dislike the change and will give the team and the new man their backing. I think we have to take the view that the relationship between NA and NC had broken down so it was never going to work long term.
eurosaint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Who gave Steve Grant the right to talk on behalf of Saints fans FFS?? Assuming that you are being serious, I'll bite ! Whenever any 'fan' is approached by the media for his opinion, somebody on this website spouts off about him 'not representing me' etc, etc.. Can you not accept that reporters are not able to speak to everybody and will pick out someone who has a connection to a supporters group (or similar!) and listen to their opinion ? If Steve had said anything arrogant or outrageous, then perhaps you would have a point to make but he didn't so there is no issue whatsoever !

eurosaint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 He was clearly joking... That's why I said "assuming that you are being serious" ! I'm never quite sure on here as there are a fair number of arseholes although TBF I've not noticed Faz to be among them before !
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Players have been told to "only speak positively about structure changes" if you think this and other articles are 100% genuine then thats cool. I used to be niave once too I will need to wait for the Mirror to print the "exclusive" (again) before you trust Glasgow_saint Are you naive enough to think any player at any club would do otherwise? What sort of player is going to come out and say "we are all fuming, none of us are happy about this, and are not going to listen to a word the new guy says"? Clearly they are going to fall in line, and welcome the new guy. Especially those on the fringes of the team, who may see the new manager as a new chance to get closer to the team.
Sheaf Saint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Players have been told to "only speak positively about structure changes" if you think this and other articles are 100% genuine then thats cool. I used to be niave once too Has it occurred to you that perhaps the players are actually sensible and mature enough to recognise that mouthing off to the press about the negative aspects of the situation would undoubtedly be counter-productive?
Faz Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 That's why I said "assuming that you are being serious" ! I'm never quite sure on here as there are a fair number of arseholes although TBF I've not noticed Faz to be among them before ! Thank you ES! Love you too. I should probably have put a smiley face thingy. In my defence, it was early!!
monosaint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Kelvin is an employee of the club and also club captain. He would be expected to represent the club to the media whatever his personal views. He's always been professional.
Viking Warrior Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Rather have Steve Grant than Corley, mcmillan and illingworth constantly being interviewed as the voice of the fans
eurosaint Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 http://www.football365.com/southampton/8419826/-? FFS now we have NICK GRANT ! Is this the b@stard child of Illingsworth and Grant I ask myself ! Ps. sorry Faz, early for me as well, I should have detected the irony !
OldNick Posted 21 January, 2013 Posted 21 January, 2013 Players have been told to "only speak positively about structure changes" if you think this and other articles are 100% genuine then thats cool. I used to be niave once too I will need to wait for the Mirror to print the "exclusive" (again) before you trust Glasgow_saint GS you are being a td unfair. The players no doubt were confused and surprised, but like us they have had time to think about it, some have apparently been spoken to by NC. They also have met the new manager and perhaps realise the ambition of the club is higher than NA could bring. As a NA fan who obviously saw no fault in NA's decisions then you are happy to die on the c4ross for him. I see it as a progression (although the timing is dd)
