thefuzz247 Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 I would have thought when people speak of Cortese making footballing/transfer decisions would it not actually be Les Reed who does this? Surely that was what he was appointed to the board to do as Director of Football/Development/Cones etc? I am no fan of Cortese (well not now that's for sure!) but surely he knows where his strengths are (finance/strategy/megalomania etc) and this is why he (unfortunately) employed LR in the first place? A man who as we all likely know has previously been voted "the worst manager in premier league history", and if I'm not mistaken is someone who has a track record of screwing up pretty much every other club/organisation he has ever been involved with?? I think Cortese is being blamed incorrectly - in the sense that people think he thinks he knows football better than someone like NA or even LR and that this is behind the bizarre NA decision? Instead, I think he should be blamed for appointing LR in the first place and I wouldn't mind betting that his appointment was the point at which the trouble really started for NA. Purely a guess of course but I would love to hear other's thoughts on this......

RedAndWhite91 Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Les Reed has been mentioned on here. Quite a lot. However, reading this, I decided to do a bit of Les Reed research, and found an interesting quote from Steven Gerrard: "To this day, I have no respect for Reed or (fellow coach) Derek Fazackerley. I was a young lad who had never been away from home to play football before. They didn't seem to understand that not everyone can board a plane, settle in a strange hotel far from the family they love, and find it easy. In fact they made me feel like ****. My homesickness worsened whenever I was forced to be in their company. I felt they could have shown more care and sympathy. They were always pushing me, always telling me to buck up my ideas." Of course, not really relevant, but does show a little insight into the man who a lot on here seem to be unsure of.

My point was really to say that I don't think for one second he does. SO if anyone should be singled out for flak in contradicting the direction NA wished to take it should have been LR and not NC? What direction ? They made the decision that NA couldnt take us to the next level, personally I agree, just the timing all wrong. You will have Cortese, Reed, probably Mitchell too as he is pretty trusted. Reed has done well here TBH, he was charged with developing the academy, sports science centre and scouting team I cant disagree he has done a good job. S-Clarke Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 A lot of assumptions are made about Les Reed, and a fair few are a load of rubbish. People keep bringing up the fact that he was the worst PL manager in history etc, ok was he? Stats? And what's that got to do with the role he's conducting now? People are quick to criticize him on pie in the sky assumptions, but slow to praise the influence he has had on securing our academy status and growing the development side of the club - which I feel, given time, will prove to be the relentless conveyor belt that Cortese is after. Saint-Armstrong Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Adkins was Reed's appointment. Adkins said when he came in he knew Les very well. Les was banging the drum for NA during the selection process.

Turkish Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Les Reed has a fantastic track record and shouldn't be knocked. He is well respected at Bishops Stortford and once wrote the coaching manual for England.
