Matthew Le God Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Jan in an interview with Saints TV today has announced that the starting XI for the Exeter game will be as follows... Bialkowski James Perry Wotton Surman Gillett Schneiderlin Thomson Lallana Holmes McGoldrick
OldNick Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Is it pay on the gate, as I have a meeting inthe afternoon and hope to travel to Exeter if I get it over quickly enough.
Andy_Porter Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Strange that Thomas is no where to be seen, same with Stern. Did he mention the subs bench?
70's Mike Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Strange that Thomas is no where to be seen, same with Stern. Did he mention the subs bench? being saved for Saturday
Andy_Porter Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Thomas or Stern? Seems strange either way since neither have played yet and I doubt Thomas would take Svensson or Perrys place.
70's Mike Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Thomas or Stern? Seems strange either way since neither have played yet and I doubt Thomas would take Svensson or Perrys place. probably just Stern but worried by Svensson rushing his comeback
Andy_Porter Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Ah right. I guess it would be a bit harsh to drop McGoldrick after he scored.
TopGun Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Surprised that KD and Killer are the only non-starters from Saturday. And that Wotton gets the nod over Thomas at CB. Surely that means a recall for some of the older guys such as John for Birmingham??
Saint Charlie Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Good to be consistent and hopefully get the lads some confidence with a win!
paulwantsapint Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 WHAT publicly pick a team early? great news will help out with pre match betting
Saint Charlie Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 WHAT publicly pick a team early? great news will help out with pre match betting Loads of teams do it!
St Marco Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Be interesting to see how Perry and Wotten do together as could be our central defence for many games this year. Basically our 1st team except for Bart,Wotten so hopefully we win this one easily. Im pretty confident we can't lose to two league 2 clubs two years in a row
Matthew Le God Posted 11 August, 2008 Author Posted 11 August, 2008 Perry and Wotten...could be our central defence for many games this year. I bet they don't. Davies and Svensson are the first choices and once they are fully fit, Perry and Wotton won't get look in.
St Marco Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 I bet they don't. Davies and Svensson are the first choices and once they are fully fit, Perry and Wotton won't get look in. Happy to take that bet Svensson and Davies will be our main defence but Svensson will not be playing 2-3 times a week. We will protect him. If he gets injured then again that will keep him out. Davies seems to be a bit injury prone so again i don't expect him to play every game when he returns. Thus leaving Perry,Wotten,Thomas.
JustMike Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Happy to take that bet Svensson and Davies will be our main defence but Svensson will not be playing 2-3 times a week. We will protect him. If he gets injured then again that will keep him out. Davies seems to be a bit injury prone so again i don't expect him to play every game when he returns. Thus leaving Perry,Wotten,Thomas. bit harsh, he had an op on an old injury and he was smashed in the face last season which kept him out. Hardly injury prone. He will be the basis of the defence IF we dont sell him
Rebel Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 I would imagine Thomas, Rasiak, Euell, Skacel, John are all being kept out of the starting line up so they are not cup tied for any potential buyers/takers I would also imagine that more than one of them is currently in negotiations with another club
Michelle Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Impressive, nice to see consistency. Completely understandable that Killer gets rested.
Saint Matty 76 Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Without Thomas we could have a chance of winning a header, and Dyer will most likely be brought on later on.
Andy_Porter Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Stern has a 3 match ban... For two yellow cards? hardly.
peacey Posted 11 August, 2008 Posted 11 August, 2008 Stern has a 3 match ban... Ummmm... Where did you get that complete rubbish from dude? He has served his 1 game ban and is set for selection for the Exeter cup game!
LaptopSaint Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Coach in 'keep the same team and don't panic after one game' shock. If everyone's fit the same eleven who started at Cardiff will start against Birmingham. Jan the Man seems to know his own mind, and he's got more confidence in the team than half the people on here.
Master Bates Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Today's Echo has Bialkowski & Wotton starting and Thomas in for Svensson. http://www.thisishampshire.net/sport/saints/display.var.2423063.0.saints_wont_be_ringing_the_cup_changes_jan.php
under the west stand Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Hope Wotton realises he will get a load of stick from the Exeter crowd. The Plymouth connection!
Greenridge Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Today's Echo has Bialkowski & Wotton starting and Thomas in for Svensson. http://www.thisishampshire.net/sport/saints/display.var.2423063.0.saints_wont_be_ringing_the_cup_changes_jan.php The OS suggests (from JP) the same team as Saturday with the exception of Svensson. The Daily Echo seems to have been playing 'pin the tail on the donkey' for a couple of years with regards to the teams they come up with in Friday's paper for Saturday's games. It used to be relatively accurate but not any longer.
VectisSaint Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 JP on the OS gives all the right reasons for keeping basically the same team, its all about confidence and getting to know how they play together. Apart from Killer (who he confirms cannot play 3 games a wekk yet), he seems to suggest no other changes, although elsewhere it seems Bart is confirmed in goal. Thank goodness we have someone who knows what he is doing, rather than the prat Burley, who would have changed half the team.
66East Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Good to see Ollie Lancashire in the squad as well. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10431
OldNick Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 no on e has answered my question.IS IT PAY ON THE GATE TONIGHT? I would appreciate an answer ta.
Dan Johnson Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Still No Rasiak?? Wright Phillips & Thomas to "sit this one out" hmmm

There when Franny scored Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Bit strange that BWP and Thomas are not included, especially BWP. Thoughts?
Master Bates Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 no on e has answered my question.IS IT PAY ON THE GATE TONIGHT? I would appreciate an answer ta. Tried looking on the Exeter website and no info available.
Marino Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Chris Coleman was quoted at the weekend that he will be signing a proven goalscorer this week. My guess is Raz, or maybe Stern returning for a second spell.
marksimus Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 no on e has answered my question.IS IT PAY ON THE GATE TONIGHT? I would appreciate an answer ta. someone above said it was, I think
Wilf Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Chris Coleman was quoted at the weekend that he will be signing a proven goalscorer this week. My guess is Raz, or maybe Stern returning for a second spell. Norwich press still mentioning Rasiak as a possible target for Roeder as he looks for a big(ger) striker to play alongside Cureton or Lupoli.
SaintDonkey Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Good to see John in the squad - I think it's best to start with McGoldrick since he's on a run of goals but John is a superb option from the bench. Jan obviously has as much confidence in Thomas at centre back as most of the posters on here.
labibs Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 No Wright-Phillips in the squad tonight? A mistake from the OS or has he actually been left out? In talks with another club?
lordswoodsaints Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 it is pay on the gate,i just rang up to make sure as i am taking a car full tonight.
Bailey Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Have been told once again that Thomas is actually training away from the first team and his future at Saints remains in doubt. Also, I've heard that Schneiderlin will play in defence with Wotton playing alongside Gillett in midfield. Other than that, it's as you were for the Cardiff game. Time will tell I guess!

ottery st mary Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 no on e has answered my question.IS IT PAY ON THE GATE TONIGHT? I would appreciate an answer ta. YES. See you at the game tonight AND put some money in the charity box when it comes round.
tombletomble Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Stern has a 3 match ban... Thats what I thought as well. Still one more game after tonights until he is back.
Bailey Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Bart is playing. Yeh sorry I missed that bit. Already saw it on the OS too.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Be interesting to see how Perry and Wotten do together as could be our central defence for many games this year. Basically our 1st team except for Bart,Wotten so hopefully we win this one easily. Im pretty confident we can't lose to two league 2 clubs two years in a row Peterborough Notts County Mansfield All div 2 clubs last 3 seasons :-(
ottery st mary Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 No Wright-Phillips in the squad tonight? A mistake from the OS or has he actually been left out? In talks with another club? Is he off to Palace as his WAGES ARE EXCESSIVE FOR A TRAINEE. White,Patterson,Lallana,Thomson and Dyer more than fill his position. Just my opinion.
ottery st mary Posted 12 August, 2008 Posted 12 August, 2008 Hoping the weather does not prevent the game going ahead. The pitch does have problems with drainage and we have had more than our fair share of rain down here in sunny Devon, to-day and the past few weeks. But hopefully the sun will shine through this afternoon.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2008 Author Posted 12 August, 2008 Thats what I thought as well. Still one more game after tonights until he is back. No, he had a 1 match ban for 2 yellows in the Sheff Utd game Thus he is NOT suspended anymore after missing the Cardiff game
