saints_is_the_south Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2637487 Temperature is set to be below freezing in Southampton from 6pm tonight right through until 11am tomorrow. Sub zero temperatures are then set to return from 7pm. With no under soil heating at St Mary's, the forecast temperatures would suggest a good chance of a frozen pitch no? CanadaSaint Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 With no under soil heating at St Mary's, the forecast temperatures would suggest a good chance of a frozen pitch no? Perhaps Cortese refused to install under soil heating and then deliberately timed the change in manager so that it would coincide with a postponement, thus allowing MP more time to work with the squad before his first game. No. It will take more than an hour of sub zero temperatures at a ground next to the water to freeze the ground on a pitch that will have been well covered and insulated beforehand. Appy Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Only ever been 2 games called off at St Marys no?
CB Fry Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Only ever been 2 games called off at St Marys no? One for rain and one for freezing conditions in the area. Highly unlikely a game will ever be called off for a frozen pitch alone. If the roads are safe around the area the game will go ahead.
Mr Dad Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Has anyone been near to St Mary's Stadium today? I think we can forget about a frozen pitch but last time it was postponed due to ice around the ground and surrounding roads. Does anyone live near to the ground who can report on how the snow/ice etc looks around there?
spyinthesky Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Interesting to see that leicester only got 8,000 for friday nights top of the table clash with Middlesboro Obvously conditions put a lot of people off especially as it was a TV game Lowest crowd of the season so far at SMS I reckon for a number of reasons

John Boy Saint Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Best wrap up warm, http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2637487?day=1 Applause will be a bit muted when the players come out, what with all the gloves being worn. Wish that Mash of the Day was still just down the road, a pot of their fare put an oven heated breeze block in your stomach, certainly worked that Ivey night a few years back when we played Sheffield United. sandwichsaint Posted 20 January, 2013 Share Posted 20 January, 2013 Forecast doesn't look great for those that have to travel. Snow is forecast right down the M3/A3 area from 14-00 onwards, I don't know how much but it doesn't take much to snarl the M-ways down to 30mph (if you're lucky). If you do get there you then face a miserable trip home with freezing fog forecast across S. England from 21-00. I won't decide till lunchtime but if it's still looking like that you will have to take 3 of us off tomorrow's anticipated attendance.

Colinjb Posted 21 January, 2013 Share Posted 21 January, 2013 I'm now free to set off whenever thanks to an impromptu day off. Any hints or suggestion of a pitch inspection? I don't want a wasted journey.

I don't want a wasted journey. Currently... - Sunny blue skies in Southampton - temperatures hovering around 0c to -1c - no heavy snow since Friday and no snow currently forecast for today - pitch is under cover and heating system and is fine - areas immediately surrounding the stadium cleared of snow No need to worry Colin, the game will be on.
