Saint Charlie Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 For those who are interested in what he is about here are a few articles, a good mix I think: http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,,13991_7521848,00.html (Clearly speaks a bit of English and can understand it) http://www.footytube.com/news/guardian/espanyol-indebted-to-mauricio-pochettino-as-kids-show-their-worth-L5120 http://www.laliganews.tv/mauricio-pochettino-and-ramon-planes-leave-rcd-espanyol/ http://www.totalbarca.com/2010/news/know-the-opposition-a-profile-of-espanyol-coach-mauricio-pochettino/#more-32559 http://www.espanyolusa.info/2012/09/will-mauricio-pochettino-take-blame.html?m=1 http://www.sport360.com/article/real-madrid-consider-espanyol-coach-mauricio-pochettino-replace-jose-mourinho?theme=mobile_garland http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,,13991_7521971,00.html http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11842/8407404/Matt-Le-Tissier-and-Guillem-Balague-react-to-Southampton-s-decision-to-replace-Nigel-Adkins-with-Mauricio-Pochettino
leithsaint Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 Interesting that in the sky sports video he says something like, 'players should aim high, that way you reach the moon, or maybe the nearest star'. Adkins had a line that he used on several occasions that is very similar.
Crab Lungs Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 At least Cortese's last two appointments have, at the very least, been positive people it would appear. Glad we didn't get a miserable, blame-everyone-else g1t like Redknapp in, thankfully.
Bearsy Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 Interesting that in the sky sports video he says something like, 'players should aim high, that way you reach the moon, or maybe the nearest star'. Clearly seen Guly's shooting. Arf.
david in sweden Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 ....according to one article ...he was the longest-serving manager in La Liga ..(almost 3 years) at the time he left Espanyol.....(Spanish chairmen must be more impatient than English ones )
pap Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 Clearly seen Guly's shooting. Arf. Bearsy, did I say that you could use the little sign-off I've popularised on here? I mean, I approve and all that. Just nice to be asked is all. I bet NC asked you to supplant my position as SaintsWebs arf-factory. I bet the pair of you have been planning it for months.

for_heaven's_Saint Posted 20 January, 2013 Posted 20 January, 2013 Don't like the sound of these fall outs with players.

Turkish Posted 22 February, 2013 Posted 22 February, 2013 i see in that bleach reports 85% of people wouldn't want atkins back. Ain't we fickle! At what point in the last month did he stop becoming the new Alex Ferguson and the greatest manager we've ever had?
Thedelldays Posted 22 February, 2013 Posted 22 February, 2013 At what point in the last month did he stop becoming the new Alex Ferguson and the greatest manager we've ever had? and the best young manager of his generation...yet in the next breath, linking him to only NPC jobs ffs
Turkish Posted 22 February, 2013 Posted 22 February, 2013 and the best young manager of his generation...yet in the next breath, linking him to only NPC jobs ffs And a manager we should stick with even if we go down.
Thedelldays Posted 22 February, 2013 Posted 22 February, 2013 And a manager we should stick with even if we go down. personally, I think adkins will never manage in the prem again unless he strikes gold and gets another team like us

david in sweden Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 (edited) We all have opinions, but this is one area where I have some expertise - namely language /communication, as I have worked with around 50+ different nationalities in the last 25+ years. My assessment of MP's language skill is based as much on his body language as listening to him ..(which you can briefly hear in the first item on OP).. with Guillem Balague. Many " students " quickly become used to the sound of their teacher's voice and sometimes even adopt their dialect / accent, but actually understanding someone else - even if they are speaking YOUR language can be far more of a problem for some. Many Britons have trouble understanding people from other parts of the UK. (esp. Geordie, Glaswegian, Irish, and people from other parts of the world who speak - prime examples; Pakistani, some African and Caribbean dialects etc), so we can assume than although MP does understand English to some degree - when spoken by those with whom he is familiar, but it depends a great deal on the accent / vocabulary used by the journo / interviewer. As he is obviously a perfectionist-type of personality, he's not going to allow himself to be embarrassed in a situation where he has to reply to " loaded questions " from a fast-talking hack ...and have to continually repeat. " I'm sorry, I don't understand you, can you repeat that .. ". He does understand a lot, of course, as was witnessed in the after-match interview following the Man. Citeh game. Even at the start of a positive comment from the interviewer, he smiled broadly - even before the statement was completed - and then began to listen to his interpreter before replying. He understood the compliment quite well, but formulating a suitable reply... is probably a bit beyond him - at present. It has been stated (on here) and by players, that he communicates reasonably well in training, and he was seen to give some fairly clear instructions to Rickie Lambert (a real Scouser) ...during the MC game, which is not surprising as a large part of the " football vocabulary" used is probably fairly basic in any language. I think we may well see him conducting an interview on his own by the end of the season, but don't be surprised if he sounds like " Manuel ".. QUE ? Edited 2 March, 2013 by david in sweden
