MLT - Cortese has an ego problem

Since 1921, of course there have been.

Even the past 45 years I personally have seen plenty that were better players, Sounness, Dalglish, Rush, Hoddle, Keane, Shearer, Best, Charlton, Osgood, Berkamp,Henry, Law,Giles, Clarke, Ball, Robson,Moore, off the top of my head .

I really think our supporters confuse having great talent with being a great player. On his day he was a great player, but sadly his day did not come around anywhere near enough to be considered one of the 100 greatest players since 1921 .

What had Dennis Bergkamp being better than Le Tissier got to do with anything? The weird world of Internet people.

Not to mention Beckham, Gerrard, Torres, Henry, Viera and players of that ilk. Those that think MLT was among the best of the best are totally deluded. I have seen Zidane, Platini and Messi and compared to those MLT was just a wastrel of his talent.

I don't think anyone did say that did they? One of if not the greatest player to play for us. Not sure what point you wierd Internet people are trying to prove by listing loads of players from other clubs over the last 40 years. Odd.

It's not often I can reference Zambia but they feel the same way about us as we do about cortese. Go on their forums they slag off this forum for not understanding mayuaka, him being better than our team, our fans being ****s etc, the reason they do this is they grow up aligning themselves to Emmanuel's success and negative comments make them react cos they are passionate. Cortese never grew up being passionate about saints, he sold his friend a dream, his friend bought it and he's doing his upmost to deliver it, he's dispassionate and runs the club that way. Last time we had a fan in charge we had Wilde and Crouch, maybe fans should realize we should just support and let business run the club as we don't know best as we are morally corrupt cos we are fans ?

it's the ex manager who couldn't handle Mayuka, nothing to do with Cortese. To use Mayuka correctly you need to be able to think outside of the common or garden English box. You need to be able to put up with the 80% rubbish to extract the diamond.

All good players, but for vastly different reasons. I know who I would rather have watched, who got me out of my seat on more than one occasion, who had me open-mouthed at the sheer beauty, skill and audacity of his skills and it wasn't any of this list. I saw the famous 'great' Man Utd team of the sixties with Best, Law, Charlton and all those get comfortably beaten at White Hart Lane one Wednesday evening with barely a whimper in return. What has any of this to do with Cortese and his over-enlarged ego gland?

What a futile 'discussion' this is. When it comes to moments of pure genius, MLT was a big cut above anything I've seen in our shirt. But when it comes to consistent effort and an ability to inject real quality in most of the games they played, I can think of quite a few better candidates. That said, I don't have this inner need to choose a "best player" and engage in protracted arguments to support my personal choice.

Equally futile is all this talk about whether Cortese is a nice guy. I'm fairly convinced he's not, but then I don't much care as long as he's taking my team forward, which - until Friday, I was convinced he was; I'll wait and see how the managerial change works out before reaching my own personal opinion in the matter. He should have handled it better but he certainly wasn't "gutless" or "cowardly" for not turning up at the press conference because A) it was best that he wasn't there, and B) he's studiously avoided them even when the subject matter was highly positive. And he wasn't sneaky for lining up a new manager while NA was still in place - any more than NA was when he lined up better players while picking and interacting with the guys who would be replaced. That's just football - and it's been like that for a very long time.

What I find frustrating and very unhelpful is all this drive-by smearing with unsubstantiated allegations, especially when they come from or relate to MLT, Benali and Lawrie Mac. I get it, guys - he doesn't respect you as much as you (and I) think you deserve to be respected. The allegations may be true but if you're not prepared to put up, then shut up. Truth is a defence against slander, so your reluctance to "put up" suggests that you may not be able to substantiate you view - or not willing to defend what you've said. So forgive me if I don't pay you too much heed when you say - as MLT did - that you don't want to go into it further for fear of harming the club. You're harming the club already IMO by using your platform as a venue for unsubstantiated smearing, so what's with the sudden sensitivity?

And the same goes for you, Turkish. You say Cortese is banned from a local restaurant but you won't say where and you won't say why; you mention a host of other things on a regular basis as though they are facts that prove NC is an obnoxious turd, but you won't (or can't) substantiate them. Same deal, put up or shut up, because your input has no credibility in my eyes if you don't. And, even then, I'm going to want to hear NC's "side" before making up my mind, which is never going to happen. That's why all this ongoing crap is so damn futile.

Why do you think I won't name the restaurant and who happened? It isn't difficult is it. That's the trouble with you Internet people sitting behind your PCs demanding evidence, in the real world it might effect people. I certainly wouldn't want any clowns form here asking the owners or staff about the incident as I know the chaps and its not the sort of thing they want to advertise, which is fair enough. Other posters know about it though as its 100% FACT. Anyone, love to stay and chat with you Internet types all night but I've got a game to get to..

Cut and run instead of answer the points, eh? The laughable thing is that, as an "internet type" (which wasn't intended as a compliment), I'm still 16,000 posts behind you. And you can say whatever the hell you like without fear of having to back it up, and hurl your childish little sneers around instead of actually responding to the points that were made. Now that's gutless.

The point remains, put up or shut up. It also affects people "in the real world" when you don't substantiate the unpleasant allegations that you post, but that doesn't matter if the person in question is Cortese. And that's hypocrisy.

Loledy it doesn't affect cortese in the slightest. Not one iota.

 cut and run?! I was going to the game you utter plum!!

Cortese doesn't give a f*ck, he really doesn't. However if i'd named the resturant then it might have an impact on them, even if it was some of the lemons on here going up the manager and saying in their finest Hampshire accent "oi mush, i ere you banned Nicola, wassssss all that about then mush?" and it's not fair. It's not an allegation,it's a fact. Just because you and Frank and the CoC dont like it it doesn't make it untrue. Like i said, internet people, not living in the real world, taking the internet far too seriously.

Nonsense. It was in front of the media, not the fans. There would have been no "aggression", just hard questions which would have been difficult for Cortese to answer. I think many more people would have at least some respect for him if he stood up in front of the cameras and said "This is our new Manager (sorry, First Team Coach). Yes, Nigel was good for us, but i wanted a change, live with it". Instead he wimped out and the only sensible conclusion one can draw from his no show is that he's spineless, cowardly and scared.

I agree that he wont be there tonight. But that isn't due to any "masterstroke" (please!) more because he's gutless and doesn't want to hear the inevitable chants of how much of a w@nker he is.

How did that work out? ;)

MLT was on Talksport with Alan Brazil this morning spoke highly of the fans and team and only disparaging remarks were

about the lack of Adkins name in the programme which anyone with any common decency would accept is abysmal.

This cant be true. MLT is a c*nt who hates Cortese and only slags the club off as he wants to stay in the media spotlight. What right does he have to comment on our fans and team? I wish he'd keep his mouth shut. He was only our 7th or 8th best ever player. he should keep his opinons to himself and stop trying to damage the club.

Keegan has just been on talksport saying the same happened to him, so it is not an isolated incident. Has there ever been a manager sacked, that then had a mention in the next programme.
