I hope the new bloke fails

Agree with most of this but will never accept C--tese - he deserves all the abuse heading his way and that will not affect the team, new manager or our support for OUR club one bit - was the same withLowe. As for spending any money on programmes or in his corporate empire - never.

Be very careful what you wish for - without Cortese and his financial backers we wouldn't be any where near the Premier League and comparing him to Lowe is ridiculous. Cortese makes these decisons to achieve his ambitions for the club whereas Lowe only looked after his own interests.

I personally loved Adkins but every manager knows the risk of being a football manager and if Cortese thinks we are better off with this guy I am prepared to give him a chance.

The OP is a typical over-reaction by fans on this forum - and they are normally proved to be both premature and wrong. I expect this may be the case again.

I am not prepared to let Adkins departure de-rail our support for the team as that will become a self fulfilling prophecy - although I know some would be happy with this.

Yep, thats right. I hope he fails and we get relegated. Why? Because that will mean Cortese has failed.

Ive supported Saints for over 30 years, but yesterday something changed for me. We went from being a decent club with values we could be proud of to being a wannabe Man City, a club that rides roughshod over fans and employees alike in the aim of squeezing a few more quid out of them for rich owners who don't give a stuff about football. Sadly this is what the premiership is all about now. Quite frankly you can keep it.

The way I feel at the moment I will not be renewing my season tickets next year, I realise this won't affect the owners one jot but I don't feel I can put my hard earned money into something that behaves like it did yesterday, and has been doing for a little while now. After all the Lowe times I thought we had hit rock bottom and things couldn't get any worse, perhaps I was wrong, we've gone from one nutter with at least a small shred of decency to a bigger one with none whatsoever. I realise I will get all sorts of abuse thrown my way for posting this, go for your lives, I really couldn't give a toss what anyone else thinks. Theres a saying that goes 'be careful what you wish for', maybe we should have.

Sad times.

Cortese out.

Ridiculous post. Follow the team please and remember what NC has done for this club.....

What a crazy post, I'm bitterly dissapointed in the timing & the obvious way it's been happening behind Nigel's back for weeks.

But I can not agree to hoping he fails, Pochettino has been put in and chosen to take a difficult position.

NC has rolled the dice when he didn't need to I for one am praying it doesn't come up snake eyes.

Long after both Pochettino & Cortese have left the club the one certainty is, we will still be supporting our club, so have a go at Cortese if you like, you don't have to like the new guy simply support the eleven players on the pitch they haven't changed.

Sacked a decent manager

Brought in car park charges

Brought in ticket tax

Tried his best to bury the clubs history

Banned the local paper

Sacked loyal programme sellers

Sacked the best young English manager in the business who was well on course to survive his first year in the premiership

Probabaly some other stuff I have missed

What next?

My first match was Saints 4-0 Burnley in 1967. Ron Davies scored a hat-trick and Dave Merrington turned out for the opposition. The only reason I know this is that I still have the programme on which my dad scrawled the score and team-changes.

In truth, I don’t remember anything about the match, but on the way home an incident occurred that changed my life for ever. A passer-by asked the score and my dad replied, ‘we won 4 nil, mate’. He didn’t say ‘Southampton won 4 nil’ he said ‘WE won 4 nil’. I was just a young boy, but to this day I remember how proud I felt that WE – me, my dad and those eleven blokes in the red and white striped shirts – had won. At that moment, a new Saints’ supporter was born.

My dad and the eleven blokes that wore the red and white stripes that day have long since departed, but my passion for the club is still as strong as it was that evening 46 years ago. Believe me, there are times – yesterday, for instance – when I wish it wasn’t! But I can’t fight these things; whatever **** runs the club or even plays for the club, the passion for the shirt still burns, and will do for the rest of my life.

Agreed. I, for one, have been hoping and praying for relegation ever since the car parking charges were introduced...

Good post and I agree with the sentiment. Most of our customer base now, and I choose the words advisedly, are willing to put up with any moves or behaviour if it gets the team one place further up the PL. Its not for me. I liked having a team gradually developed and added to over years formed from one managers plan. I liked having a mainly English spine to the team with just a bit of imported glamour. The PL really isnt all that - its just another overhyped product, suffering not benefitting, from too much money swilling around. I dont hope for the team to get relegated or Cortese to **** off carrying a huge bonus, but I'll be going more regularly if they do.

Don't know why it's not possible to be upset about yesterday's events whilst still supporting Southampton FC. I'd have NA at my house absolutely any time and bar the $kates I wish him luck no matter what he does, but I also hope that Cortese is vindicated and that Pochettino is in charge for a long time to come with us at the highest level. No idea why the two aren't possible

Agreed.

Idiotic over reaction.

What about all the other hard working people at the club? The players, the other coaches, the megastore staff, our brilliant scouts out there finding the bales, the youth team players, the catering staff, the stewards etc etc. Do they deserve the club to go down and fail.

You make it sound like we are some sort of evil corporation full of evil people. The chairman has made an odd and controversial decision, doesn't mean the whole club should be damned.

Would Adkins want us to go down? No.

Huffton, I'm sure many on here understand your frustration/anger but you are wrong imho. We support a club/team and you and I and many others need to move on to Monday and remaining fixtures and wish our new coach well.

This. Very sensible post. I'm not sure you'll find anybody who agrees with the decision, but we're here to support Southampton FC regardless of who manages, owns or runs the business.
