Noodles34 Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 So the timing was bad, and the manner in which a decent man who had done a good job was caked was pretty appealing perhaps, but hey, that's the football (wake up and smell the coffee, it really is like this now). I am sure Nigel is probably the least surprised man in all of this. But now we have these anti Cortese posters, Turkish, Hypo etc. giving it some about the man who: Allegedly bought Leibherr to the club Paid a million in the third division striker Took this club into the Premier League - as promised Talks about expanding the stadium to make us a bigger club Doesn't buy players like Cisse (the QPR one) Wants to take us to the Champions League Talks to the fans He ****s up sometimes sure, but he has done exactly what he said he would do, we have all been to Wembley and we are now at the top table. He sacked Pardew and it worked, whilst I am not what you would call happy about today, I am looking forward to a new era perhaps, and this new bloke might just be the man to take us there. pingwing Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Done some good and some bad. On the one hand fixed us and got rid of a fairly toxic Pards, on the other got rid of Adkins for someone who has in theory a reputation to potentially be better. As much as buying potential is a strategy for players that somewhat pays off, doing it with managers is only going to land us with an AVB. One step too far in the wrong direction there. Then again it is important to remember he has turned into a proper functioning club by weeding out all the nonsense that represents the aged past of running a football club plus has ensured we are pretty much the definition of cat 1 academies in England which should be useful. Swings in roundabouts, just shouldn't have dicked on Adkins really.
Sheaf Saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Noodles, I was just about starting to see a modicum of common sense in your post, until I got to this bit... Talks to the fans When? What credence does he give to the fans? He has shown repeatedly that he does not give a flying f*** what his paying customers think. Like pretty much all bankers, he is morally bankrupt: a phrase that many of us like to use when referring to our friends down the M27. Whatever good business decisions he has made, he lacks any integrity and therefore can never have my support again.

Again having someone elses money to use to upgrade things is not an achievement. It is like me driving a busted up car and replacing it with a Porsche after I inherited some money. I did not buy that from within my own means, did not work my ass off to pay for it. Without Markus' money Cortese would not have been able to do any of the things he has been able to do. I give him credit for bringing Markus to the club but if anyone on earth was in that position they would of been able to do it. Thus it isn't an achievement. But it is the point. Lowe was a total gimp but he built the club up. We stayed within our means for most of it. We would battle relegation and buy cheap players and sell them on. That was how it was. It sucked for us sometimes but it kept us going and kept us in the PL for so many years. Lowe then got something's wrong (managers), we ended up being relegated and the rest is history. Cortese has not made us live within our means. We have spent a lot of money. We have loans that nobody knows what for. We have gone to court because we have not paid bills on services the club had done etc and now we have traded stability, positivity, togetherness and most of all a good footballing side for the unknown. Point being living within your means is hard. Living on someone elses money is easy.

saintstr1 Posted 19 January, 2013 Share Posted 19 January, 2013 I am niether Pro or Anti Cortese but the fact is he is the man in charge, the man who the buck stops with. Obviously he thinks this is the right decision and only time will tell if he is right or wrong. IMO Nigel has done a great job for us and we should be eternally grateful to him. But now it is time to move on with the new man, We should support him and see what happens in this second half of the season. If we get relegated then Cortese got it wrong and that is then time to vent the anger, If we survive and maybe finish in the top half of the table then all this will be justified and again Cortese would have got it right. Love or hate Cortese it doesn't matter because so far his record with the Saints is pretty impresive. Time to stop the anger and support the new man and the team.
