Return to the Premier League

On 28 April 2012, a 4–0 home win over Coventry City secured the club's return to the Premier League. Southampton finished as runners-up in the Championship with 88 points, having not fallen out of the top two since their 3–1 victory over Leeds United on the opening day of the season.

After much speculation about the player, on 10 June 2012, the official club website announced the completion of the £7 million signing of Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez, Saints' first signing of their top flight return. This also broke the club's record transfer fee spent on a single player, previously £4 million for Rory Delap from Derby County. This record was then broken by the £12 million signing of Uruguayan winger/striker Gastón Ramírez from Bologna just before the transfer deadline, one of a clutch of eight new signings for the team before the transfer window closed. Another signing, Zambian forward Emmanuel Mayuka, has also excited great interested, as did the signing of Japanese striker Lee in the previous season. The pattern seems to be for Southampton to seek to consolidate their position in the Premiership by looking wider and further for quality players than the Club has ever done before.[citation needed] The opening of the season did not go well, and Saints conceded 24 goals in their first eight games, the worst defensive performance in Premier League history.[citation needed]

Despite the poor start, Southampton's form improved as the season went on, and following a 2-2 draw against Chelsea on 16 January 2013 they were placed 15th, three points clear of the relegation zone. Two days after that draw however, Adkins was sacked in favour of Argentinian coach Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino was rumoured to have taken it up the ****ter from Nicola Cortese who was apparently bored of receiving it from Nigel Adkins. [26][27]

Taken from the Wikipedia main page on Southampton FC at 17:15. Some fans clearly very p*****d of by the Pochettino appointment. Childish if you ask me

It has been changed to the slightly less offensive but still funny this.
