I am sorry to come up with this and I do bear in mind that we're all very upset about Adkins, who we all appreciated and was by any means unfairly dismissed, and knowing that his replacement is not someone who the jury has long dictated a positive verdict on doesn't really help our anger.

But I am appalled with some disgraceful comments that have been made in the past few hours here, particularly those concerning the new manager's nationality and in some cases the players that may join the club. A disgusting show of disrespect towards people from another country and don't blame it on being angry, some things are just wrong regardless.

As someone who has come over to the UK being from another country myself (Portugal), I really do appreciate the British culture and the country as a whole and have British friends. It has been a positive change. However, even though I don't know any of you, I can say I'd be quite reluctant to meeting a good number of you based on your comments about someone from a different nationality, who you don't even know in any sense, and the only thing you have to judge him is his nationality. You seem to be the part of Britain I'm happy to avoid, and it doesn't impress me a lot that a number of you walk down to SMS almost every match day.

If you want you can insult NC for being arrogant and cruel or whatever you like. But calling him an Argie and creating hatred around him for that reason is very poor. Be careful with you comments about continental players, I've seen a few who have been very disrespectful.

Are you aware that most of the soldiers and saliors that fought against and were killed by Argentinian forces came through Southampton or that place a few miles down the road, and that we might well be looking at it kicking off again in a couple of months time when the Falkland Islands have their referendum ?

Not justifying it, just offering an explanation. I made a silly comment myself.

You better hope my dad doesn't see this. He won't have The Sun in his house. This headline is an oft-cited justification.

I've read most of the threads on the forum today and have hardly seen any Xenophobia at all. Secondly, what is wrong with disliking him for being an Argie? What is the difference between that and giving someone stick for being an ex-Skate for example?

I wouldn't have the Sun in my house either. Mainly for the fact that its a complete piece of sh*t embarrassment. Much like our Chairman, really.

What about the disrespect Cortese has shown Nigel Adkins and the fans?

We don't want a foreign manager who can't speak English and doesn't know the PL. we are in ENGLAND ffs

Yet you probably idolise our non-British players like Le Tissier, Ramirez, Lundekvam, Svensson, Pahars etc...

You're only saying that because he is melmacian. If he was English, you'd have a different opinion.

The OP and everyone that has reacted adversely is a wet fanny.

If you are worried/upset about todays events, on either side of the fence, then I don't think you deserve to be alive.x

Mabye you're getting muddled up with xenophobia, and people's concerns on his apparent basic understanding of English?

Cannot understand why anybody should get upset by being called an Argie as surely this is no different to me being called a Brit. I do not find this offensive in the least. Does anybody else?

You should be safe there mate, doubt many people are interested in meeting up with a dullard like you.

Our new manager's namesake Pocahontas (poss. some relation?) also suffered xenophobias at the hands of Capt. John Smith and what she done is sing him a song bout the beauty and importance of wind and after that they is cool.

I think it's fair comment from the OP, the vast majority of people criticising the sacking are decent but a few comments have been a bit over the top. There was a thread on here earlier talking about the Malvinas chant ffs though to be fair I think the OP of that thread apologised.

No, he's just not the sort of nationalist knuckle-dragger that would find the headline appealing.

Posted

feelings are running high on the subject today, a lot angry about the decision to sack Adkins.

The nationality of the new manager is completely irrelavant, I dont care where he is from, he still has my backing.

Calm down. No need for all this argy-bargy...

However, I was slightly taken aback when someone called him a dirty cheat, I presume in reference to the foul on Michael Owen in the world cup?

You know, the one when Owen clearly dived?

That's not what you were saying in WW2.

It's part of the determinations of Crown Dependencies. Independent in all but defense and foreign affairs. If GY gets invaded, the UK has to act, and vica versa.

anyway, int's 2013, where someone comes from should have no impact at all on how they do the job. I've noticed a lot of moronic comments today from "fans", some borderline racist. Do you know the guy? No, well leave him to do his job, let's get behind him,

Don't tell me what to do tax dodger, I'll make up my own mind based on his actions and if he is a NC puppet or not.

Agree - that some of the comments on here have been out of order... we like to claim were a 'family' club etc ... some of the outrage today has been about showing a lack of decency... and there has been quite a few comments that aren't very decent...

On the whole though.. the comments haven't been too bad.. and just reflect a frustration in the English game..i.e. we get people from all over Europe admiring it for it's quality, the speed of the game, and then those people come over take control and bring in players/coaches form the other leagues in Europe which seems a bit odd... and is frustrating for the longevity of the 'English' game...

that said... I suspect if Adkins had been replaced by Guardiola or Mourinho, I suspect there would have been a few less Xenophobic comments made...

You seem to be missing my point

Situated 10 to 30 miles off the north-west coast of France, the Channel Islands are not part of the United Kingdom.

They are dependent territories of the English Crown, as successor to the Dukes of Normandy.

That is hardly the same as being nothing to do with England as you infer. I understand that Le Tiss could have played for any of the UK national teams if he chose to.

Yeah, the problem with Southampton (the city, not the mighty football club) is that it is full of small minded little Englanders who think anyone from north of Totton is a wog. He is'nt even English FFS, he is an Argy FFS etc are all xenophobic comments and the OP is entirely right. I am gutted for Nigel and think this is a mistake but this is all entirely over the top.
