lordswoodsaints Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Putting the disappointment and resentment to one side that a lot of you feel, can you honestly say you are surprised by what has happened? or were you expecting it? I can honestly say that I was expecting Adkins to go in this transfer window or before if I'm honest as I don't think things have been right for about a year, the only surprise for me is the choice of new manager.....lets be honest,it wouldn't of been any saints fans choice to appoint him and most have probably not even heard of him but isn't that the same situation when Nigel was appointed? IMO Nigel has been treated harshly and probably deserved at least 1 full season in the prem but we have been struggling and things have looked a bit fragile at times so perhaps it could turn out to be the right decision. So going back to the title of the thread ...... Are you surprised by his sacking or were you expecting it?

SNSUN Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Surprised he's gone, thought he'd be with us for a good long while as he's one of England's better upcoming managers. Not surprised that Cortese has taken this step, he's done weird things before. I wonder if this would have happened had we played tomorrow? a1ex2001 Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Not surprised we changed our manager just surprised at how poorly the timing is This a thousand times over, Cotese had the perfect oppertunity to pull the trigger earler in the season and the passing of Adkins while mourned would not have stirred up the outrage of every right thinking football fun in the country. Instead he waits 3 months for Adkins to be making progress and things to be looking good and then out of the blue pulls the trigger this morning the timming is bonkers but I never thought Adkins was the long term man for Cortese even if he was a good fit for the club. Saints suddenly no longer feels like my club abit like when the dunk hunter and Wilde teamed up just before relegation and weird decisions were made. Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 As I alluded to back in October, I had heard that a management search was on (I'm not going to tell you my sources) and that it was a case of when not if Adkins would be replaced. I also saw in a Spanish paper on Tuesday they mentioned Pochettino to Saints. I felt it was actually wide of the mark which was why I didn't mention it, but turns out it wasn't and should have taken more notice.
Give it to Ron Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Not surprised but shocked at the timing just like Pardews. Its the replacement that has me a bit woah....I was convinved it would be Di Matteo.
Frank's cousin Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Surprized it was not done in the summer . Nigel clearly brought in to do a job he did in 2 instead of 4 years - was given a contract that would have given him that 4 years to get to the prem. Think he managed to convince NC to give him a go, but NC always planning ahead for next phase. Disconnect between fan sand NC is that fan are emotinally invested, NC is practoical and pragmatic and his emotional drive comes not from supporting saints but from realising Marcus's dream - He is therefore never going to be swayed by Fan emotion or reaction as he has the belief his strategy is teh right one. Time will tell whether he is correct or not, but his decisions to date with Pards and Adkins have worked, so ury is once again out. So not shocked, but sad nonetheless as Adkins is a top bloke - but also excited that we may enter a new chapter
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 More shocked about the timing. He was a dead man walking I seem to remember when Adkins was appointed, lots of people thinking it was a stepping stone appointment, get someone in who knows the lower leagues etc
Junior Mullet Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Absolutely shocked. The timing is a massive gamble - just when we were getting our act together!

aintforever Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 It is a HUGE gamble, things were going along OK now we've ripped everything up and starting from scratch with a manager who has won nothing and knows nothing about his league. RobM Posted 18 January, 2013 Share Posted 18 January, 2013 Surprised at the timing, surprised that the replacement has less Prem experience than the man he replaces, surprised the new man doesn't speak English yet is being thrown straight into thing but sadly, it's not really surprising that NC has done this again. Not at all surprised that the forum tossers are now out in force telling us all how they knew this would happen because they are so ITK. You knew **** all, or you'd have posted it. Shut up.
