Talk Sport man in Spain really bigging up this appointment, won best mamanger in 2011, over Mourinio and Guardiola!! Reasons why Espanyol were bottom, their fans still olove him. Made me feel a bit better.

Lets face it, he wins three in a row and Nigel will be history, same thing happened with Pards.

40 years old - so not got loads of experience - not a great track record on top of that - new to English Football - probably doesn't speak English

Also suggests that someone other than the manager is looking after transfers

Difficult game on Monday at home to Everton - only 3 days away - a very English club - doesn't bode we'll for a good start

I have a feeling disagreements over tactics and transfers have played a part in this.

I fully expect to see players like Zarate to come in to the club before the end of January and a number of existing players move on - and I think there will be some unwelcome surprises in that as well

Another pundit on, Giam Ballaghue (sic) I think, another big up on this man, sounds promising, but obviously no one (on here) wants to see this club move forward

probably because we were moving forward enough with NA. The timing is wrong, he deserved until end of season at the very least

There was a general belief that we could have continued to progress and move forward under Nigel Adkins. That's the point!

Quite the opposite.

Let's sack a man who knows this squad inside out, has delivered two promotions, overseen visible improvements in individuals as well as performances, got us moving from the relegation zone, and replace him with a man who cannot speak English, has little knowledge of the English game, and has to learn everything about the team and the Club before May.

It's a f*cking BACKWARDS step.

Nick. You are seriously having a laugh mate. Team spirit will be crushed. What a terrible day for our clubs fans. I'm disgusted by it Nick, ashamed in fact.

Alright Martin, disappointed by the timing and treatment of NA, sure, but wre we really going to move on with NA? We would have proabably stayed up, but do you think he will get the best out of Gaston?

The new guy sounds alright to be fair. I dont agree with the decision to sack Nigel adkins, its a disgrace. However as i said on another thread, it's not his fault Adkins got sacked, didn't get on with cortese and their relationship was strained. He deserves our support.

He may have been good then but roll on two years and he has a poor record and was sacked. If he was as promising a manager as some believe then why didn't he get a job somewhere else?

He could turn out great who knows but his recent record is terrible. If he was still their manager and around 10th then you could maybe understand it. Normally you fire a manager and bring in someone who is doing better right now. This isn't the case.

A Spanish friend who knows a lot about football thinks he is like Steve Bruce. Managed in the top flight after playing there and had a good season then struggled. He doesn't think he is that great at all.

Maybe this guy is **** hot. Maybe he is a future Real Madrid manager. Maybe he is a significant upgrade to Nigel. And putting aside sentiment, he might well be: the Pardew decision was justified wasn't it?But the timing is ****ing shocking. Just plain stupid.

He is a good Manager Turkish. Of course we are all annoyed with the Adkins sacking, but he should be a good replacement.

Would you say the same about Bielsa?

I think I agree with this. Initial reaction was aghast but this bloke has some hype. Is it any different to getting players like billy Sharp in to gain promotion then looking for something better. I love nigebut what's done is done now. I just hope the team spirit isn't ruined.

For sure. However the difference is Bielsa has more experience and is in a job right now. He has gone from Europa cup final to relegation battle so as of right now if you said would you take someone 16th in LA Liga and replace a guy 15th in the pl in his 1st season there I would say no.

49 wins from 146 league matches at Espanyol

best league finish - eighth

awful record

Not with Espanyol with little or no money.

This guy has been linked with the Real Madrid job, La Liga manger of the year in 2011, left Espanyol because they sold players he wanted to keep and didn't re-invest. Highly rated young manager.

it's just we already had one and the timing seems bad.

A lot better than the dross of managers we were linked to in October when everyone was convinced NA would be sacked.

Completely this. Awful timing but has probably been written on the wall for quite some time and Pocchetino is a great name. Some people here wanted Redknapp and even Benitez a couple of months ago....

If that's true then we have the worst and least appreciative fans in football history.

why? You think all other fans are different? Do me a favour, football fans = fickle. Nothing to do with appreciation, I appreciate my first BJ, but i am not with her now (not when she pulled out her c ock!)

Just to throw in a stat. He was sacked after getting 9 points from 13 matches in November which left them bottom. Since then they have 9 points from 6 matches. Maybe we should get in whoever took over as people saying it was a really tough job...

He's done nothing wrong, just taken a good job. Don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise, anger is all at the club, i.e. cortese. the new guy doesn't deserve to fail, I don't hope he does, it's the club that deserves to fail and I imagine most other clubs will feel similar. I don't necessarily think it'll go wrong, he could be very good. but to me you might as well just support man city, chelsea etc in that case.

All i am saying is Adrian there has been a bit of ill feeling towards the new manager. Quite a few "f*ck off" type posts on twitter for example. It's not his fault so that is unfair.

He was sacked with Espanyol bottom of the league - one win in his last 10 games. Your excuses about "little or no money" may have worked ok but his replacement Javier Aguirre came in and has lost just once since

Not quite true. Theres a difference between applying for a job whens theres a vacancy like Adkins and having secret meetings with Chairman to take someones job.

He took a job that happened to be occupied by someone else. Someone who had just orchestrated 2 successive promotions and was busily steering his team towards mid-table of the PL. I know this is a bit old-fashioned of me, and it's probably unfair to criticise someone just for taking a job when out-of-work. But I just think he could have showed a little solidarity towards a fellow manager.

Is this actually true? I've had a quick look online and can't find anything.

Tis' true.

I think, as fans, we can't let the way Adkins was sacked cloud this appointment. Obviously, he needs to hit the ground running fairy quickly for this to be deemed an almost acceptable decision, but he looks to have decent attributes to him.

Just not keen on his lack of English, and also the fact that the other backroom staff have been sacked as well. The players could well find themselves in a little bit of limbo, which is what worries me.
