Cortese out

Saints foreva

Recommended Posts

Mash I am one of the few who did, as I have a member of my family working in offices at SMS the bloke is an absolute count, you don't talk to me unless I talk to you then you only address me as Mr Cortese and his PA has to vet meeting rooms before he enters and if there is anyone there that NC is not fond of she has to ask them to leave.
Yes, I know mate, you've been one of the one's who've posted in the past with first hand info, I know people who worked for him, as do quite a few others that I know. But people didn't care then, they do now. We all know that football can be a ruthless game, but loyalty and treating people right still carries plenty of weight in my world and most of the Saints fans I go to games with.

Unless they hear these kind of things from people they know and trust, it's not surprising if many fans do not necessarily believe such things. If someone you don't know posts information, why would you believe it without knowing more for yourself. That doesn't make people cretins. Equally, to just dismiss it out of hand and pretend everything is rosy, would also be silly... people need to keep an open mind about such things.

Hence, while I don't know anyone directly who works at SMS, I had heard various comments from friends or friends of friends which alluded to what Toomer and Turkish have said, and I know via others that Turkish often speaks the truth (in between the sarcasm), so todays announcement is no big surprise to me...

If there is anything good to come of all this, it is that the Liebherr family realise what a prat they are employing and get rid of Cortese before he does any more damage to our club.

For all we know, they may be fully behind, even encouraging this move, if they see it as maximising the chances of success at the club, and therefore a return on their investment.

I don't know them, I'm just speculating, but they are not fans and don't look at it the same way as us, of that I have no doubt.

The mirror has a funny spin on things "Wealthy banker Cortese expects Southampton to avoid an instant return to the Championship and is prepared to spend big - and it is believed he feels a foreign manager is worth considering" I'd point out it's a lot easier spending somebody elses money!

How proud I was of Nigel for his management skills for taking us from the bottom of L1 to holding our own in the Premiership in little over two years. Proud of Davis, Lambert, Lalanna, Guly, Fonte, Schnederlein, Chaplow, Cork and others for making the step from L1 and Championship to the Premiership. Proud of our fans for sticking with the team through thick and thin. Glowing with pride on Wednesday night following our comeback against Chelsea. Now THIS. One less honourable English manager in the Prem. I don't think I can bring myself to support the club at the moment. Do I go on Tuesday to vent my frustration or crawl away silently? Of course I want the players to do well after all they have been through but I can't bring myself to support Cortese or the club right now. Not even if we win on Monday - which I now think highly unlikely. I think I'll return my Wigan tickets and save myself the pain of wanting the team to do well whilst not supporting the club!!

Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport

Jamie Redknapp just called Nicola Cortese deluded on SSN #saintsfc

Sky Sports ‏@SkySports

'The way Southampton treated Nigel Adkins is disgusting, absolutely disgusting.' Paul Merson on @officialsaints axe http://bit.ly/10lbqQP

My thoughts exactly

they are both right.

Unfortunately this is a reality check for a lot of people who were warned about this behaviour and chose to ignore it. they demanded evidence and sources, direct quotes. They dismissed anything negative and abused those who shared it. Well now they have their evidence. I'm sure they wont accept they were wrong though.

I am surprised that Merson even knows who is Nigel Adkins is.

This decision on Adkins was almost inevitable. We have an over confident Chairman wallowing in his tactical genius in sacking Pardew and picking a new Manager who delivers 2 back to back promotions. So Cortese will have had his judgement reinforced by the outcome of the Pardew sacking. The share holders are of course happy with Cortese as he has increased the Club's value from L1 to Premiership - probably a 400% to 500% improvement in value. However, if we get relegated the debt burden based on future ticket sales etc etc may bring about a financial melt down. Let us hope not.

I wonder whether, if the new manager fails and we end up getting relegated, the Liebherr family might actually decide to sack Cortese?

I personally want to acknowledge that Cortese has achieved some good stuff for the club. However, that gives him no excuses for the arrogant, stupid decision made in sacking Adkins. Just as many managers who have achieved success have later been sacked when they have failed to continue the success (e.g. Benitez at Liverpool) I hope that Cortese himself will face the wrath of the club's owners if and when this ludicrous decision is shown up as the biggest mistake made at our club since the days of Rupert Lowe.

I want to see Saints successful - and I believe I can honestly say that I want that MORE than Cortese wants it. However, I do not believe that this is the way to achieve that success. I fear that not only is it a decision devoid of any common morality, but it is doomed to failure.

This is a sad, sad time in the life of our club. :(

Big lol

Shall we all remember the things you've posted?

You're not right in the head mate. Forget Cortese leaving, I think you should go and do one.

Don't wait to get banned again.

Don't worry I'll try to avoid responding. I know you are just lashing out because the events of today have embarrassed you and your ridiculous defence of Cortese.

Oh dear. You and other posters like you have been royally shown up with your blind support for the chairman. You have been made to look like mugs.

You're like a kid in the playground, running around trying to start a fight which you, of course, will watch from the sidelines.

Most people have managed to grow out of the horror of their early reaction and are trying to deal with it, but you're still plugging away in your infantile "agent provocateur" way, trying so hard to be one of the little group of sneerers and cynics you admire so much.

I don't like what happened today, and I hate the manner and the timing. I was - and still am - a big NA fan, and I'm sickened and ashamed about today's events. But it's done and there's not a damn thing we can do to change it. Moreover, we (and especially you) have no idea of the capabilities and fit of Pochettino; he may be perfect for us in the longer term on which Cortese is focused (which will hopefully still be on track in May).

Apart from being one of the worst PR men I've ever seen in football, and a rather obnoxious pr*ck, Cortese hasn't done too much wrong when it comes to moving this club forward, and I'm willing to wait and see how this turns out. If that makes me a "mug", so be it.

Cortese can't expect my support now after going against the wishes of almost every single fan by sacking Nigel. I would be ecstatic if he left tomorrow and somebody else came in, either on behalf of the Liebherrs or as part of a different ownership. Either way I want that c*nt as far away from my club as possible.
