kpturner Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Just read on Facebook that NA was escorted off the premises in tears. NC is a bastard. Yeah right!
OldNick Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Just read on Facebook that NA was escorted off the premises in tears. NC is a bastard.lol, I find that fanciful at best
Norm Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 you believe that? a grown man being escorted away from the stadium...? the new signing let slip that he was told adkins was going....NA knew he was going So the BBC were lying about NA knowing after the media?
gjphilsaint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 I was there at Milton Keynes when Nige took his first game. He emerged from the tunnel to a very mild ripple of applause from our supporters. We were in the bottom 3 of League 1 by the end of that game. Today, he is removed and this is met with consternation and disbelief. He has lead us to consecutive promotions, during which he established SMS into a fortress, creating a new record in straight wins at home! Also we are above the relegation zone...so whatever happens next Nigel knows that he can hold his head high. The new manager has a lot to live up to. Thank you Nigel Adkins for what you have done to Southampton FC, Iam sure that you will get another appointment and you will once again lead another club to glory.
The9 Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Apart from his last club, who sacked him after he took them to the foot of the table. After they'd sold all of his players for under him for 2 years, Coventry-style. I don't have a problem with who has been appointed, just that it's happened at all.
OldNick Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Just heard that Guly sacked Adkinsyou,d believe that as well
Ohio Saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Just read on Facebook that Alpine was escorted off the tea cup ride in tears and a full nappy Disney is a bastard. Fixed.
kpturner Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Its really not hard. You have a press conference with Cortese explaining his actions. Deal with the sacking. Then Cortese leaves and new manager tasks to press. He has explained already in the OS statement. Do you really think he would have said anything else? What would you have liked him to say that would have satisfied you?
OldNick Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 So the BBC were lying about NA knowing after the media?the BBC would never do such things of course lol
alpine_saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 you believe that? a grown man being escorted away from the stadium...? Yes I do. Didnt Lowe like doing that ? The BBC are also saying NA was caught completely unawares by todays events. Maybe he knew it was coming somewhen, but probably thought it would be the end of the season and that drawing at Chelsea had won him a repreive until then too.
Didcot Saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 IWorking late shifts at the moment, and only just found out. Not had much sleep, so wasn't really with it when I got up. Just logged on to see if Forren had signed, and instead see the headline topic "Adkins SACKED!!!". My first thought was that this was some kind of sick joke or 'wummery'. Second thought, I must still be asleep! This is just some f*cking bizarre dream, and any moment now, I'm going to wake up, and everything will be ok. I checked the newsnow site, and the torrent of confirmation hit me full in the face. No more Nigel Adkins. Can't believe this. Finished reading through this thread, and still not recovered from my shock. Feels like I've just lost a close friend. Nigel Adkins. A man of relentless enthusism. A rare breath of fresh air, in a modern football world choked by the thick suffocating smog of high finance and dream chasing. A true and genuine gentleman of the modern game, who brought back that elusive 'feeel good factor' to the Club that I love. A really decent, honourable man, whose sheer enthusiasm and positivity for our Club, brought us the closest thing to a 'united fanbase' we've known for a very long time. It has been my absolute pleasure to have such a man as Nigel Adkins managing my Club, and the manner and timing of his ruthless departure leaves a bitter, sour after-taste, accompanied by a feeling of thorough dejection and disenchantment. Today is the day that will be looked back upon, as the one where all the momentum and feelgood factor was sucked out of the Club that we love. Thanks for everything Nigel. Please know that you were truly appreciated and loved by us. Absolutely gutted. Post of the day. Well done, you summed it up perfectly. A sad day.
Charlie Wayman Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Let's move on after the anger has left and support the new chap and the team. What a load of sycophantic, suffocating b.rollicks. You move on if you like matey, I won't be the only one shipping out. Where were you in 48/49 against WBA when we needed you most. Enjoy your prawn sandwiches....
stug76 Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Loved Neil Atkins, saints legend, no doubt. Have Saints been excellent this year - not really. I think we would have stayed up with NA but that doesn't seem to be good enough. For me, that's exciting. The level of players that we have been linked to, the money that is being spent all suggest that all the talk of us competing at the top end of the Premier League hasn't been throwaway comments. I'm starting to believe that's where we are heading. Love Mauricio Pochettino, sounds like a great addition to the Saints. Love teams with energy, pressing, passing out from the back. Onwards and upwards. Of course, good luck Nige ;-)
trousers Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Beeb article suggests it wasn't that black and white http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21084201 Good article that
brmbrm Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 OK, so we needed a new CB. We got one. And we've got Forren as well. And the first one speaks foreign. He could at least have a cute translator.
Ohio Saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Good article that Enlightening too. You feel at least a little better? I do
CanadaSaint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 What a load of sycophantic, suffocating b.rollicks. You move on if you like matey, I won't be the only one shipping out. Where were you in 48/49 against WBA when we needed you most. Enjoy your prawn sandwiches.... That from the guy who posted this in December: Two more point down the drain, how much longer can this farcical situation continue before Adkins is put out of his misery? There are no positives when you're chasing 40 points, at this rate we won't even get 20. I'm afraid the "Going down" taunt applies more realistically every week. If we are going to change the coaching people let's get on a FFFing well do it and at least give the new people a fighting chance of keeping us up. Indecision is ruining us. Come on Cortese sort put your mess!
doddisalegend Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Good article that To be honest I've got no problem with the new bloke under other circumstances I'd read that article and be quite upbeat about the new manager............. it's just that I'm sad Nigel had to go like this I feel he deserved better....
OldNick Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 That from the guy who posted this in December: nod doubt in 48/49 he was calling for the managers head as well lol
Andy Durman Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 (edited) NC is a visionary. This is a very sad day and I am just as disappointed as anybody, however NC has a dream and a plan. Lets get behind the new Boss and put the club before any one person. I'm sure NA has been very well looked after with a golden handshake although money isn't everything and NA must feel terrible at the moment. He is one fantastic guy and he leaves with his head held high and a fantastic CV. Edited 18 January, 2013 by Andy Durman
itchen Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 nod doubt in 48/49 he was calling for the managers head as well lol As he didn't have the internet he was forced to paste posters around Southampton and to stand on street corners and sing broadside ballads.
OldNick Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 As he didn't have the internet he was forced to paste posters around Southampton and to stand on street corners and sing broadside ballads.yep, lol
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Well I only get 3 posts a day so I may as well use one to cover everything. Was angry earlier in the day but now the dust has settled a bit I am thinking a bit more rationally. I'm absolutely gutted for Adkins - he deserved far better treatment. The journey he has led the team on for the past few years has been epic and a joy to be a part of. We're back in the Premier League far quicker than even Cortese planned to be and as a result he has seen the end of his tenure. We'll never know for how long Cortese planned to keep Adkins once we got back to the Premier League but I suspect the succession planning started the moment we got promoted. I doubt we'll ever hear from Adkins, I imagine he has a decent severance package and a part of that will be to keep his mouth shut. For what it is worth I think Pochettino seems a good appointment, and if you detach the way Adkins has gone, I think he has decent credentials for the club. He seems a good 'fit' however the massive concern in the short-term is the impact this has on our Premier League survival. If you consider he has in the past rejected Fiorentina and Valencia and been linked with the Real Madrid job, as well as rejecting several opportunities since November, it appears to be a bit of a coup for the club. A few other observations: 1. It feels disgusting for Adkins to be replaced instantly, but lets face it, we'd be up in arms if Adkins went and no-one was lined up. At least (scant consolation I know) the club knew who they wanted beforehand. 2. We've picked up some more points recently but there has definitely been a departure from the 'Southampton Way'. It seems quite clear that the Cortese Brief has Saints playing a certain style and a certain formation. Adkins has gone away from this (quite rightly) and now I would assume we're heading back to it. 3. Adkins will always be remembered and the way he has been replaced is pathetic but I don't think Cortese would do it if he thought it would harm our long-term prospects. Cortese may have some strange behaviours but he was proved right when he appointed Adkins and I hope he is proved right again. 4. I sincerely hope any frustration at Adkins going is done in a way that doesn't impact the new Manager or team as that is the last thing we can afford. 5. A Manager of Pochettino's stature won't want to manage in the Championship - would love to know what makes Cortese so sure we'll avoid relegation with the disruption of his appointment. 6. Considering Pochettino speaks pigeon English I thought he acquitted himself very well in his press conference and interview - and I am excited to see what impact he can have on the team. So on the one hand I am gutted and full of regret that Adkins didn't at least have the season, but on the other if you detach the fondness for Adkins and disrespectful way he has been replaced I think Pochettino is a potentially exciting appointment on the long-term. Now just for the nervous last 4 months of the season as we effectively start again. Survive and it will be a very interesting summer. Go down and all hell could break loose.
sadoldgit Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Gutted. I couldn't believe it when he sacked Pardew, but now this is beyond ridiculous. I am sure Adkins will not be out of work for long and hope he ends up working for someone decent. People hated Lowe, Cortese today has proved himself to be much worse.
mitch01 Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Sick to my stomach. What is it I am actually supporting? I have never felt so disillusioned with football. The injustice of it all!

belgrave Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Would assume that Monday's game will be conveniently called off...
hypochondriac Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Just one word "timing" You were very aware Duncan that Nicola was trying to replace Nigel as early as our NPC season so I know you realise how ludicrous the timing of this is.
Shroppie Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Would assume that Monday's game will be conveniently called off... No chance. Sky will revel in any protest, so just get behind the team.
GAS Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 The timing is very odd. I strongly feel NA was the man to keep us in the premiership this year, the team have really started to look good and well organised. This appointment is basically gambling with our premiership status and should not have been made now.
Leicestersaint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 This is a huge gamble by Cortese. He has made Saints look ridiculous across the footballing world. His behaviour is tawdry and shabby. I feel that I and Saints history have nothing in common with such an unprincipled man.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 You were very aware Duncan that Nicola was trying to replace Nigel as early as our NPC season so I know you realise how ludicrous the timing of this is. I was and tried to tell folk on here, but this forum just shoots messengers. Nigel will be relieved in my opinion - he wanted out and he wanted out with a decent CV, he's got that and some. Good Luck to him - smashing fella. My biggest worry is this new chap, talented and highly thought of he maybe but he is new to the Prem, new to the country and he does not speak English, not really what a team needs when they are in a scrap to stay up.

Crab Lungs Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Gentlemen, Ladies... if you'd be so kind. http://onenigeladkins.com/
naiser Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 I've not come back on to the forum in AGES... but today I just had to. Even if its just a few lines on a forum that Cortese doesn't read... I JUST HAVE TO SHOUT OUT! THIS IS MADNESS!!!!!
Clifford Nelson Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 What a load of sycophantic, suffocating b.rollicks. You move on if you like matey, I won't be the only one shipping out. Where were you in 48/49 against WBA when we needed you most. Enjoy your prawn sandwiches.... ???

Thats interesting, about it being quite convenient for Nigel really. You have probably forgotten more about the club than I know, but that is how it seems to me. He has a great opportunity to move forward if he considers his next move carefully. I don't feel sorry for him. More for us. I think NC has gambled like he is backed with unlimited funds, and I don't see why that is the case. Why would the Liebherr's want to plough vast amounts in to us?
trousers Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 @Cornsy69: Thanks Gaffa, Croz, Deano & Jim 4 a great few years with SFC, A message left this morning sums them up #positive http://t.co/4uvmTPwM
pap Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Just been reading the Pardew getting sacked thread. Eerily similar.
Whitey Grandad Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Just been reading the Pardew getting sacked thread. Eerily similar. We're in the Premiership now. The only way is down.
buctootim Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 So Adkins, Crosby, Wilkins and the performance guy have all gone?
reader1234 Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 agree with your comments. I think back to Nigels strange comment the day we won promotion last season against Coventry. When we all were celebrating he was talking about a parting of the ways. That this would be inevitable at some point.
Matthew Le God Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 So Adkins, Crosby, Wilkins and the performance guy have all gone? No, Corns is thanking them because they are leaving. Adkins, Crosby, Wilkins and Stannard are the only ones to leave.
trousers Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 So Adkins, Crosby, Wilkins and the performance guy have all gone? Performance chap ( Steve Corns) is staying according to his recent tweets
pap Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 We're in the Premiership now. The only way is down. Yeah, but people were saying we wouldn't be promoted after the news broke. People are saying we'll get relegated now. No-one knows, but it turned out alright last time. Personally, I'm not relegating us just yet. Adkins got us where we are, no doubt. Automatic promotion from League One was an amazing achievement, as was the successive promotion to the Prem. However, we should have won that league last year, and West Ham, supposedly a worse team, have made a brighter start to life in the Prem. In hindsight, it seems there has been tension for quite a while. Remember his "parting of the ways" slip-up after the Coventry game which secured automatic promotion? Quite a few of us thought that was dodgy at the time, and anyone suggesting friction has got an earful for their trouble. Is the decision totally shocking? No, and people have short memories. Was only a couple of months ago that many were saying he was out of his depth. Fair to say that both he and the team have learned to swim in Premiership waters. Hand on heart though, I can never really call our games this season. There are games that I think we can theoretically win, but I'm never confident of victory this season. Each one is a bonus. One swallow does not make a summer, and while I'm proud of some our recent results, there have been a ton of missed opportunities, in respect of our play and our results. Long term Saints fans are used to snatching a draw from the jaws of victory. Maybe we make allowances for that. NC clearly doesn't.
nick1579 Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 Saints have provoked many emotions in me over the years but this is the first time I've experienced shame. Ditto. One of the comments on the BBC site today hit home when someone said they used to see us as a loyal club (likes of Le Tiss) but now they hope we go down. That hurt.
Atlanta Saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 I hope I wake up tomorrow and it's all been a bad dream or an April Fool's joke. Simply gutted!!
Atlanta Saint Posted 18 January, 2013 Posted 18 January, 2013 I used to think of us as a club with Class, Style and Integrity. I hope I'm wrong. NA is a legend and always will be.
