No big loss....

Oh yes he is!!! He's going to be a MASSIVE player for us this season. He's looked great in the 3 or 4 games he played against the likes of Derby and Barnsley to convince us he was the man for us. Adding to the fact he is young, hungry and GUARENTEED go improve like every player we sign and I'd be gutted if he left.

In all honesty, I think it would be a shame if he went back so soon as I don't think we've seen enough of him. However, we don't train him day in, day out and the fact we've hardly seen him must be telling us something ... he's not up to it.

Certainly from what little I've seen, he's no where near as good in as many areas as Jay or Guly.

Can somebody explain to me why opinion seems to have turned on Lee? Everyone was crazy about him when he signed, and from what I saw in the few times I watched him last season he looked class; making intelligent runs in the right areas. I remember in one particular game at St Mary's last year he received a standing ovation when he was substituted.

Why are people now of the opinion that he doesn't deserve a chance? Don't get me wrong I'm sure Adkins is making the right call, but I'm just confused as to why people's perception of him have changed since he got that injury at the tail end of last season.

He certainly seems to have more natural talent than Billy Sharp, who many people have wanted back here this season.

Its just the opinion of a small minority on here, some of whom had it in for Chung from the start, didn't like the fact that he brought some Japanese fans into the crowd, waving their Japanese flags. He certainly looked very good in the few games when he first signed last season and looked to be an excellent prospect given a run of games and getting used to the way we play here. His vision and off the ball runs were excellent and appreciated by those that actually saw him play in the flesh. But its clear that his injury last season to his foot knocked him back big time, and without a full pre-season and then the self-inflicted injury at the start of the season that he is nowhere near a start any more. Happens to some players unfortunately. He also does not appear to fit well with our style of play/formation in the PL.

If he was a British player it would probably be worthwhile loaning him to an NPC team to get some match time, but he is a Japanese international with a huge following "back home" and I'm sure he does not want to scupper his chances of playing for them again by dropping below the radar, therefore more likely that he will cut his losses and head back to Japan.

Shame, always liked him, but doubt we will see him in a Saints shirt again. There is no need for some of the hate from some posters on here, some of whom think its funny to slag players off that they hardly know or have never seen play, but that's the way this board is nowadays, infested by a small number of vocal trolls.

/\ it's not that at all. He looked good when he started and did well before the injury. Good energy levels and a pest to defences. What I personally found strange was that people claimed he was an amazing player and going to be a star for us this season based on a few decent performances against lower and mid table championship sides. From the little we saw of him he didn't show me anything to suggest he was anymore than a premier league squad player. Hes busy, energetic and is A fairly decent player but not the star he was being buillt to be. From the little we've seen of him this season I would say my assessment of him was spot on and Nige seems to agree with me as he isn't getting anywhere near the team and hasn't all season.

A fair assessment

To me he looked Ok but not much else last season and a lot of people were taken in by his great goal (v Derby?)

He was poor in the U 21 game v Man Utd recently and looke lightweight when he came on as sub v Chelsea but I guess that was a difficult game to assess.

Can't see him featuring much in our squad going forward but, hey, that is what I said last year about Jason Puncheon!!!

Yeah it was Derby, then I think he got an assist against Barnsley I think it was. Saints fans love a player that runs around a lot and Lee certainly fits that bill, I just never saw the quality that some on here seem to have attributed to him. And I don't see how anyone can say he is going to be a major premier league player based on a couple of decent displays against struggling championship sides.

Vectis is talking Bol locks about the Japanese thing as most people would agree that Yoshida is looking better and better and proving himself to be a great signing and a bit of a snip at £2m.

I like Chung; seems a decent bloke and a good player. Better than Barnard, better than Sharp.

Think his injury came at a bad time: when he was beginning to get into life in the English league, when he had started to form a good partnership with SRL.

Remember games where it was clear his movement was beyond that which the other players could anticipate or utilise; and NA said as much.

The squad has moved on now, and we no longer play with 2 strikers, so I do think he is on borrowed time: may not even be with us come February. Massive shame since I think he could do a very good job in front of Ramirez.

Can't say a bad word against him. But maybe not the type of player our squad has room for now.

With Mayuka away at CAN, Guly putting in another poor performance, Lallana still injured/unfit, I wouldn't be surprised if he features in the next couple of games?

He's recently been taking his English exams for a visa extension so that suggests he wants to stay another year?

I'd be very surprised if he featured.

I dont think NA is scared to play him (if he's fit) but the team is now fairly settled (injuries aside), putting a player in who has missed alot might be seen as a gamble at the moment as we are now picking up points, if we're a winning a game 3-0 with 5 or 10 to go we might see him re-introduced

Given how awful SDR has looked in his recent cameo appearances from the bench, I would much rather see Lee being utilised instead. But then I'm not the manager, and NA obviously sees them both on the training ground and has his reasons to not play him.

Shame really, he showed a lot of promise last season. That goal against Derby was something spectacular that nobody else in our squad seems capable of scoring, and the way he set up Lambert to score away at Leeds showed he has a very good football brain as well as some speed and skill. I would like to think he can still have a part to play and I'm certainly not going to write him off until he has been given a chance to prove himself at PL level.
