On the actual topic, this is a pretty cover-your-arse choice from Pep. Champions League finalists last year and have dominated the Bundesliga for decades.

He didn't exactly lift Barcelona out of 25 years of mediocrity, as Fergie managed with United.

Safe choice.

one in the eye to those saints fans who actually thought we could have got him....

That was hilarious. Absolutely mental. I dont blame him, Bayern are a great club. He gave an interview earlier this week saying he wants to manage in England. He clearly wants the Man United job, apparently he and SAF are friends. I'm sure he'll end up there in a few years time.

Its lucky I never read that, were there actually people thinking he could have come here ?

As for Pep and Barca, you cant overlook the job he did there, they were nowhere near the team they are now, he had ageing players on bloated contracts and has turned Barca into the expressive footballing machine they are now and has intefrated La Masia like never before.

Added to this he was integral into moulding Messi into the player he is.

Bayern isnt a 'safe bet' anyway, but what exactly is a safe bet ? He was hardly going to take the QPR job. Bayern is another team steeped in history, engages youth and is nearly there. He will do well there. But I agree with the UTD link, itll be him or Mourinho for me in about 4 years.

Yes, there genuinely were people saying they though He'd come here.

there were clowns ringing in talksport yesterday saying he's over rated, was lucky to be at Barcelona when they had such a good team and is only a good man manager. Clearly missing the point that to be a very top manager that is one of the key skills you need. Being ale to handle and manage multi millionaire footballers, get them working hard and playing as a unit and get the best out of them. Many good coaches and managers have failed at top clubs because they cant do that. Anyone that watches Barcelona can see that whilst they are great to watch going forward they also work very hard without the ball and play a system which allows their most talented players to be at their most effective. They were also saying what could Guardiola teach Messi to improve him, again missing the point that you made which was that he was part of what has made him what he is and plays him in a formation that gets the best out of him.

yeah they are only 11 points clear at the top of the table...

When Guardiola took over (summer 08) they weren't on the ropes exactly, but they had finished the season 3rd and won nothing that season (07-08), a situation that would become unthinkable thereafter. He was pretty ruthless staright away in restructuring the squad and shaping it how he wanted it. As Smirking_Saint says, there were a lot of highly paid hangers-on there, and dressing room unrest under Rijkaard. He didn't just come in and maintain the status quo.
