Window Cleaner Posted 15 January, 2013 Posted 15 January, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21034942 I quite like horsemeat actually. Don't eat burgers though. Haven't had one since Wimpy.
pap Posted 15 January, 2013 Posted 15 January, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21034942 I had one of those. Gave me the trots.
bridge too far Posted 15 January, 2013 Author Posted 15 January, 2013 I had one of those. Gave me the trots. That's the mane problem I think
do i not like fizzy pop Posted 15 January, 2013 Posted 15 January, 2013 At least it shows there is meat in them
trousers Posted 15 January, 2013 Posted 15 January, 2013 Only found in working class supermarket chains so thankfully doesn't affect me
Saint in Paradise Posted 15 January, 2013 Posted 15 January, 2013 Belgians eat lots of horsemeat I seem to remember?
PhilippineSaint Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Obviously produced for the French market.
Saint Paul C Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 I think that these burgers are made of hay grade meat. Please pass the equine list would you. However, I don't think that they will be on sale furlong. :-)
dubai_phil Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Look on the bright side. Reduces the chance of getting BSE
St Chalet Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 The main problem has been customers consuming these burgers then having cravings for sugar cubes.
Special K Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 If you've eaten one, don't saddle yourself with any guilt.
bridge too far Posted 16 January, 2013 Author Posted 16 January, 2013 Could spur you on to try quality rather than cheap burgers in future
Sheaf Saint Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Thankfully burgers aren't part of my stable diet anyway
bridge too far Posted 16 January, 2013 Author Posted 16 January, 2013 Buying more expensive burgers could put you in hock, though Although you might be able to menage your finances
solentstars Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 agree anyone who thinks more expensive burgers are better need to remember its junk food, check the meat content its common knowledge that most burgers have had other meat added to it for years in the meat trade. i,m ok i only eat steak ..
suewhistle Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Mmm horse meat, lean and full of iron, or maybe that's just because they've forgotten to take the horseshoes off...
miserableoldgit Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 "These Tesco burgers are low in fat but high in shergar I just checked the Tesco burgers I have in the fridge.......... THEY'RE OFF!!!!!!!!! Tesco say that the public are not concerned about horse meat in their burgers according to the Gallup Poll figures" "Is it a coincidence that 'HAMBURGERS' is an anagram of 'SHERGAR BUM' ? And some more....... I took some Tesco burgers out if the freezer this morning..... nearly thawed, they are going good to soft! I complained at the checkout today that I had Zebra meat in my burger, then I realised it was the barcode"
Colinjb Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Really don't get the hysteria over eating horse meat in this country. I would quite happily munch on a Horse steak if offered. Meant to be quite lean if I remember correctly. Well, at least I can now cross it off the 'consumed' list, even if it was only indirectly.
Whitey Grandad Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 My French customer told me that the best meat for steak tartare was horse.
SuperMikey Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 I've had those burgers before, they're alright. At least the horse meat in it has a lower content of brain, anus and eyelids than the beef meat does. Ultimately, if you're paying 40p for a pack of burgers you can't complain about what's in them.

Eaten horsemeat before no problem eating that but will not eat any burger or sausages at any price.I seen how they make them and the amount of crap which goes into them. Ken Tone Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Surprised this thread hasn't really lasted the distance. Thought it would run and run.
Halo Stickman Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Surprised this thread hasn't really lasted the distance. Thought it would run and run. No point flogging a dead horse ……. when you can eat it between a sesame seeded bap instead
Window Cleaner Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 (edited) what's the law regarding horse-meat in the UK nowadays ? I know they used to do it at the Chante**** if you asked them nicely in French and in a round about way and didn't look like a copper. Edited 16 January, 2013 by Window Cleaner
Window Cleaner Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 I always wondered what the Squirrel Burgers that Boyd refers to in Stars and Bars would be like.
dronskisaint Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Had a Tesco burger last night...still got a bit between my teeth... Couldn't decide whether to do them as starter or main...horses for courses etc....
pap Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 A mate of mine claimed to have found fur in a burger once. I'm surprised it didn't make the news.
dronskisaint Posted 16 January, 2013 Posted 16 January, 2013 Waitress asked if I wanted anything on my burger...I asked for a fiver each way...
Dimond Geezer Posted 17 January, 2013 Posted 17 January, 2013 I'm turning veggie, will be steering clear of quarter pandas & jumbo sausages, although I've also herd a rumour that veggie burgers are made from uniquorn.
sunrise Posted 17 January, 2013 Posted 17 January, 2013 Really don't get the hysteria over eating horse meat in this country. I would quite happily munch on a Horse steak if offered. Meant to be quite lean if I remember correctly. This I totally agree with, it's a shame that it's not popular in this country. People have no objection to eating those cute little Lambs so why not horse?
Toomer Posted 17 January, 2013 Posted 17 January, 2013 One supermarket chain has re-named their burgers to My Lidle Pony.
Kingsland Nick Posted 7 February, 2013 Posted 7 February, 2013 The meat content of some beef lasagne products recalled by Findus was up to 100% horsemeat, the Food Standards Agency has said. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21375594 Welcome to the home of Findus For over 50 years, Findus has stood as one of Britain's best loved names in food. Using only the best ingredients and a generous pinch of imagination in our recipes, we'll help you prepare great tasting and effortlessly good food straight from your freezer. http://www.findus.co.uk/
solentstars Posted 7 February, 2013 Posted 7 February, 2013 might make some people realise now that some of our big brand names are outsourced to other third party suppliers hence why the big company's pay big money for brand names.
tony13579 Posted 7 February, 2013 Posted 7 February, 2013 They could sell them to a pub chain.....Hungry Horse
tony13579 Posted 7 February, 2013 Posted 7 February, 2013 on a serious note, My mum died of CJD. if they can't keep horse meat out of beef burgers how do we know that the beef is up to any standard?
Thedelldays Posted 7 February, 2013 Posted 7 February, 2013 I think Burger King do the best burgers...if they have horse meat in...oh well
ringwood Posted 8 February, 2013 Posted 8 February, 2013 so Beef has to be traceable because of CJD so why did Findus not ask wheres the certification? If they have certification thats more worrying because its obviously not beef and therefore the certification is falsified
Dr Who? Posted 8 February, 2013 Posted 8 February, 2013 Would like to try horse meat, as it must taste like beef, as no one as noticed the difference FFS Was in a restaurant at lunchtime today, and was surprised to see lasagne under 'starter orders'.
ART Posted 8 February, 2013 Posted 8 February, 2013 I've eaten horsement here in France for close to 40 years. No other meat on the market more healthy, lean and tasty. If you like Fillet steak there is little difference with steak of horse meat. My late father was raised with horses and joined the cavalry in WWII. The thought of eating horse was his greatest aversion yet when in France he was served a horse steak to which he said it was the best steak he'd ever eaten. He never was told that it was horse. The problem with the current situation is the medication found in this horse meat of criminal origin in Poland unfit for human consumption . The whole of Europe is flooded with it believing the meat to be Irish beef. The same old story if importing from one country and then selling as from that country. Good news insects high in protein, common in Asia, are soon to enter the European food market as filler to many meat dishes
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 8 February, 2013 Posted 8 February, 2013 No thanks I'll stick to the safe option and have a lasagne
Viking Warrior Posted 10 February, 2013 Posted 10 February, 2013 Shame the galloping gourmet is not alive I'm sure he could come up with some excellent surf and turf dishes
ART Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Here in France there is talk that some of the meat used from Romania contained donkey meat and aged work horses. To date in France there has been no talk of horse meat being used in burgers. Still to come !!! I recall 40 years ago over here China was exporting frozen cats as rabbit to France. I cannot believe in this day and age our food is still so uncontrolled and open to abuse.
