Vegard Forren - Signs

I've been reading up on this guy and as far as I can see he's nothing more than a Norway version of that centre back we signed from Millwall in the early nineties.

Isn't it good...

I assume you mean Steve Wood rather than Neil Ruddock (probably late 80's thinking about it).

Can't believe he's only on a par with Steve Wood.

Anyone made any good jokes about signing 'Forren players' yet? Can't be arsed to check the whole thread.

I made a joke but I don't think anyone will get it. David in Sweden didn't but then I didn't put any of it in bold.

It was only a stoopid pop culture pun anyway. Oh well, this bird has flown.

Edit: Badger didn't get it.

Shame on me. Had my Saints 'head' in focus, rather than Beatles pop one.

Don't recognise the name, but he's Norwegian you see,

(Swedes don't take them seriously- unless one of their long-distance skiers trounces a Swede in the Winter Games).....we should ask Norway Saint for an update (a regular poster on the Overseas site.)

I almost never post there, but I have already posted twice on this thread. Like this one:

Okay, my first class of the day (17 year old "Technical and industrial production" students) are unanimous that he would be good enough for the premier league. One thinks he won't come to us because he's a united fan, most agree he should come to us so that he won't sit on the bench. They all watch a lot of Norwegian and English football.

I'll give the verdict from my other classes later.

My wife is going to be talking to the Molde owner at his house on Thursday. I'll have her talk it over with him then.

I did ask my other classes, as I don't know much about him, but most of them follow both leagues more closely than I do.

My 17 year old electronics students thought he was pretty good, but more suited to the lower teams in the PL (this class had the lowest interest in football though), my "Ship's technical" class, aged early twenties to mid thirties were very knowledgeable and all believed he was easily good enough for the PL.

So there you go. A straw poll of about 50 fans of Norwegian football who also watch the PL regularly and the general consensus was that he should be a good signing for us, although oddly enough, different people have different opinions.

I also spoke to my wife and she will be sitting opposite the Molde owner at a dinner on Thursday and promised to make it the main topic of conversation, although she may have been lying.

No worries! Too many layers I think. I needed someone to get it quickly before the mob buried me under a barrage of "how dare you compare him to Steve Wood when he hasn't even played" outrage...

Note to self: lay off the puns.

easily confused I take it...nowhere on this thread does it say he has signed...lol..i'm sure the title will be changed once/if he has.

So why is it a sticky then? Are all potential signings going to have their own thread which is made a sticky? It's confusing because (1) you're not meant to make a thread about a target, but put it on the other thread about potential transfers and (2) there are other threads about players, who also haven't signed, which aren't stickies......so what makes this different?

Normally use stickies for when something has become the prime topic of conversation. This story about us is being covered extensively by major sports broadcasters and is seemingly an imminent deal.

If and when he does sign, we'll update the thread title to reflect.

In fact, it even says why it is a sticky. Charlet made a sticky when Ramirez signed therefore likes to make stickies when he has a good feeling about something. It's all in the bit about subs.

It was explained a page or so back, yes. Along with the conspiracy theory that I am both a **** and Nicola Cortese. To avoid any confusion and hurt to forum users I have unstuck it, for now.

No one gets to float conspiracy theories except for me.

It's a clever ploy by Nicola though, by taking it down he's showing the rumours he hates the fans are wrong, he's show this by listening to them. But when he signs he can quickly say 'I told you so' and show that he is a great and knowledgeable chairman and moderator who shouldn't be questioned.

Round of applause for the super mod.

Thank you St Chalet. I don't wish to come across as a moaner, but when forum rules are not applied consistently then confusion reigns. And when you have confusion within a forum, then it is the start of the end. I wouldn't want to see this forum disappear, so if we all abide by the rules, moderators and posters alike, then we will all have SWF to enjoy for many years to come.

The most annoying thing about Charlet is that he never picks me up on the extra r I always put in his name. Usually I just let my iPhone do what it likes, let's face it if it has a battery, it must know what it's doing. Even MLG doesn't get annoyed by it. Did matey get banned for calling him a ****?

Have we signed Chelsea? As that is a sticky too. A lot of inconsistency going around at the moment.

Why isn't this a sticky? He's pretty much as good as signed and it's all over the media?

Because some pedantic c*nt moaned Ashe hadn't actually signed yet and it was confusing them. Well actually it was more their hilarious Internet 'character' pretending to be confused.

Here's an interesting one for you. Spoke to someone at SFC last night and they said this isn't an NC, NA or LR signing and is actually a transfer commitee signing.

Apparantly they actually sat down and agreed on the type of player they wanted and ran through all the options provided by Paul Mitchell and the scouting team. NA had his input and then NC approached Molde's Chairman to begin talks.

Probably bull**** but thought I would post.

Sounds a reasonable approach to me!

In principle this seems the right way to go, but imo if NA has doubts it should act like a veto. He has to train and work with the player.

Agreed but I think anyone on the committee should be able to veto if they have that strong a concern.
