Vegard Forren - Signs

First of all, it seems strange for somebody not following Soton that you need to change management when things are looking "better than it could be". Shame, if

you do a good job, future has to wait.

Having said that, I truly believe you should be happier than you seem about this signing. I do not support Southampton. Liverpool, in fact, but I am from Molde and

almost never misses a match they play.

Forren is not a big guy (compared to Hangeland), he is not too fast (compared to Welbeck), not too ugly (compared to Rooney), but he is a top class defender - style-wise

close to Agger (left footed, moderne style, calm with the ball, tough when needed - most of all, breaks the attack before it becomes dangerous).

Make up your own opinion.

Hangeland is rated Norway top defender (and captain of the national team), but I would not be surprised if his partner in CB national team has a better carreer.

Best.

T

Appreciate your input. He does, indeed, look a very food signing. Pleased that he's left footed as it fits in with the position we need to cover.

Could work well with Jose.

Yeah, but Atkins do not play anymore. Loved, beautiful, would never wear lenses, cares about heaven and earth, loves red with white stripes, mentor for Mother Theresa.

Sorry to say, fired in the middle of success. Shame.

Yet, look forward. Was Atkins the best ever to happen for you guys? Was he not considered controversial at times? You decide.

Anyway, best of luck.

Cheers.

So now we know this has been slow-cooking for sometime, which manager (NA or MP) had a hand in identifying Forren ?

I doubt either, tbh. I'd imagine he was identified by the scouts after being presented by the management a list of attributes required in a CB.

redknapp said today that the days of a manager scouting a player on his own..and a manager calling another manager about a player were long over and fans need to get used to it

Coming from the most old-school, back-handed manager that says a lot.

Welcome aboard Forren - a really good signing, I think, especially Fonte's injury taken into consideration. New manager coming in could shake up things in Forren's favour, whereas under NA I'm sure he would have had to fight his way into the team...

Indeed. It's more about what's in the agents brown paper bag. Possibly ...

Too many page to read and I suspect someone has already come up with the theory that the signing was delayed so that the new fella at the top could do the pleasantries and try and soften the blow of Nige's departure.

Doesn't seem to have worked though.

He has a very simplistic view on the world of football transfers on the whole, so don't be surprised.

To be fair the scout picks out players, and then the manager will check them out, to make sure they fit what he is looking for. Then the manger will approach the person with the cheque book

Is it a large chequebook, like you see on telethons, Kev?

decent question, although perhaps which manager had the final say might be more appropriate seeing as our scouts may have done the identifying.

The fact we were linked with Countinho a week ago suggests MP has been consulted for at least a week or two. I guess it depends how long the Forren deal has been in the pipeline. I can't imagine we'd sign him on the same day as appointing MP without MP being consulted, but the manager is only one, all be it strong voice in a committee these days.

so not big or fast. They'd be the first two requirements on my list of attributes for a top centre back. LIke the sound of him being top class though

This signing has been overshadowed, to say the least.

But on browsing a few Everton forums, It reminded me that they were also trying to sign him. So good write ups on there from Norwegian based toffee's

As a Norwegian i'll say it right out that he is beast and give the green light on anyone who wishes to start drooling over him as a possible replacement for Distin. Knowing Moyes and his left-footed centre backs and all, this would deffo fit.

Forren is a powerful and determined type of CB. Got all the qualities, like. Composure, strength, aerial prowess and not too bad on pace. Plays ball really, really well too, and doesn't mind getting forward - a quality he shares with Distin. Better at hoofing it than Jagielka. I guess he has the right mental qualities as well, he was instrumental in Molde's league win last year (and the pending win this year), the type of future-captain material you want your centre backs to be like.

Obviously, we'll never sign him. Everyone is looking at him, he's been linked with the likes of AC Milan and Man U. Molde manager Solskjær has refused earlier bids on him from Club Brugge about a year ago, quoting that what they bid wouldn't even be enough to buy his right foot. So yeah.

As another Norwegian I'll have to agree with everything the above poster has said. Go for him Moyes!

Did know he was excellent at club-level, but when he got the call-up for the national team in our qualifiers against Switzerland and Cypros last month he produced the same level of perfomances there. MOM for me in both matches. This lad is young aswell. Would be a coup to get him. Actually rate him more than Hangeland allready.

I watch alot of the games on TV, and I thinnk Forren has been Moldes best player. He has been very good all season. Both in the league and when playing for Norway. I watched him live last sunday when he denied my team Fredrikstad scoring, and sent us down one divison. In my opinon the best player on the pitch. He was also voted by the other players in the league, as the best defender of the season.

He is not only a defender. He also got some technical skills and a very good left foot.

Forren signs. In other news, deckchairs moved on Titanic. Who gives a ****?

99% of the users in here have been screaming out for a quality CB and this guy was chased by a lot of top clubs.

But obviously nothing really mattes any more, so we might as well send him back... :spaz:

Alex Goring Crook ‏@alex_crook

Vegard Forren also told me he believes @SouthamptonFC can be a top four club within three years. Lofty ambitions

This is not going to happen. I think we could be in Europe in this time. 5 years maybe?

If you asked me 3 years ago that we would be in the premier league, some would have said the same.
