My Norwegian isn't great but this is my translation of the above which comes from Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten:

 

SOUTHAMPTON/MOLDE: On Wednesday, Vegard Forren will complete the final details of his medical. He's also almost finished negotiating his contract but has agreed with the club to wait until Thursday or Friday to finalise it.

This may be because Southampton want to focus on a tough league game against Chelsea in London. For this reason, some of the necessary paperwork hasn't found its way from St Mary's to the Aker stadium and vice versa.

According to local paper Romsdals Budstikke, no unforseen problems have cropped up to complicate negotiations. Several independent sources confirm that there's every reason to think that he transfer will go through.

 

I think this as about as certain as you can be that a transfer will go through before it's confirmed. Interestingly, I also noticed that Norwegian media were linking him with a move to Man U. in December.

Pretty much spot on with the translation. Never heard of the paper mentioned, but then i don't live in Møre og Romsdal, where Molde is. TV2 only mentioned it briefly as their first item last night, but seemed to think it was going to happen. They spent more time talking about winter sports really though. It's the break here, but cross country skiing, biathlon, snowboarding and ski jump fill up the schedule.

 

Today's students in my first class all really rate Forren. "You'll never concede another goal with him in the team." I think they're just trying to keep me happy.

The Utd link us probably just to do with Ole Gunnar being their coach. Seem to recall there was something about him saying VF was good enough to play for them? Though, I may have imagined this.

I may being a tad suspicious but whenever I read this, I read it as, "I couldn't make a decision between Google Translate or Bing Translate so I picked one and polished it to make me sound like I can read [insert language here]".

 

That said, if you can speak Norwegian, good on you. Useless for business, useful for picking up "tibud" (as they say in Estonia).

The Manchester Evening News says Forren has shown up on United’s radar as the 24-year-old’s form alerts the Premier League.

 

Forren has forged a partnership with Fulham’s Brede Hangeland at the centre of Norway’s defence in 2012 and has helped Molde to back-to-back Tippeligaen triumphs in Solskjaer’s tenure as manager.

 

Everton sent a four-strong delegation headed by boss David Moyes to watch Forren last month for club and country.

 

But the Reds have been monitoring Forren before Norway’s winter break and there is almost certain to have been communication between Fergie and his former striker.

 

“We haven’t received any offer for Vegard. But there are many who have enquired about Vegard. I am expecting that we might receive an offer in January,” said Solskjaer to the Manchester Evening News.

 

“Yes, he could play for Manchester United but I don’t have to tell him that. At his best, he is a very good footballer.”

At his best? This implies that he doesn't play at his best very often. "At his best" - when he can be bothered, when he tries, not all the time. And at his best he is still only "very good". What about "outstanding" or "excellent"? Alarm bells ringing for me.

I can tell you now, that is not a computer translation. I've seen plenty of those from students that just run stuff through a translator and deliver utter nonsense. Very little of that is directly translated, it is mostly rephrased by somebody who understood it.

 

"nærmest i mål" would've been confusing for somebody translating directly for a start. Either danbert did a good job rebuilding it to make sense, or he or someone he knows speaks a bit of Norwegian.

 

You're right about Norwegian being useless for business though, many Norwegian businesses use English in the office even when only Norwegians are present. Everything official is usually done in English.

My kids love having a "secret" language they can use in England though.

Young man in growing up shocker.

 

Come on, as if there aren't countless other players who didn't take time to mature.

 

Our Rickie didn't exactly start setting the world alight until his mid-to-late 20s. Look at him now. He himself said he didn't look after himself and take professionalism seriously in his younger years.

 

At 24, Forren is well on track, especially for a CB.

Agreed, but I think with time on your hands, the context of the deal (from this thread) and a bit of intelligence, someone could translate "closest to the target" (Thankyou Bing Translate) to "He has almost finished".

 

As I said, he might be King Harald V for all I know, it was just the phrase that made me suspicious.

I speak Danish - Norwegian's basically the same language. Estonian is weird.

Friday lunchtime probably. Remember though that Forren hasn't played a match since December 6th or thereabouts.

 

I could see him being on the bench then getting a full week of training and coming in for the Utd game.

Alain, with your name I wonder if you also speak French. As with Norweigan, translating from French requires a reworking of sentences. You cannot just apply an English meaning to each word. My French is quite good and I can understand what people are saying but the more difficult part is often finding the appropriate English words to create the same meaning. It will be the same with Norweigan which is why the translation software has to be treated with caution.
