trousers Posted 14 January, 2013 Author Posted 14 January, 2013 Liverpool missed two sitters so far (both following poor defending)
stevegrant Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Liverpool seem to be impressively **** in one-on-one situations
Window Cleaner Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Liverpool missed two sitters so far (both following poor defending) you can see why none of these young defenders make the first team though.
Saint Garrett Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Sinclair just hits it over after volleying from a corner.
trousers Posted 14 January, 2013 Author Posted 14 January, 2013 Sinclair goes close for Saints - great volley from the corner kick
trousers Posted 14 January, 2013 Author Posted 14 January, 2013 Isgrove is stand out Saints player for me so far
SuperSAINT Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Isgrove is stand out Saints player for me so far Isgrove seems to have been around for quite a while - how old is he now?
Window Cleaner Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Isgrove seems to have been around for quite a while - how old is he now? Was 20 on Saturday I think.
Pamplemousse Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Where's Reeves? Injured? Perhaps because of Shaw's injury he'll be in the first team squad on Wednesday
Window Cleaner Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Where's Reeves? Injured? bench Wednesday evening ?
Saint Garrett Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 We're lacking in a bit of quality. I'm guessing the usual players who play in these games are needed for the first team really at the moment. i.e. Reeves, Lee, De Ridder.
stevegrant Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Extreamly low quality all round Looks like the wind's not helping, to be fair.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 We have a decent shape off the ball, but Liverpool are bigger and more experienced than us and it shows at times. Just need a bit more belief and movement up front to grab something to hold onto.
trousers Posted 14 January, 2013 Author Posted 14 January, 2013 Would like to see Seagar on for Barnard in 2nd half
dronskisaint Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Isgrove seems to have been around for quite a while - how old is he now? Looks good..saw him last year at Kettering but think he's had a long term injury. Right hand side looks promising for us
Lets B Avenue Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 Men against dwarfs. Nice to see with have Jos' understudy. Why cant we recruit anyone with any physique and pace? (Current 1st team players excepted).
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 14 January, 2013 Posted 14 January, 2013 We have a very young team and physically we were up against it today. When that is the case I expect us to use the ball far better and the general quality of play today was terrible. Results don't matter too much at this level but performances do, and I thought Joe Curtis and Jake Sinclair will look back at the game with some regret (if they were senior players there may be a few expletives to describe their performance). On the other hand I thought Stephens was very good, Turnball decent, Targett ok. The rest showed effort but little quality when it mattered. But lets not be too downbeat, you only have to look at the names on the Liverpool teamsheet to know they sign them from around the world so its a good learning experience for the lads.

Agree with your assessment. Both Sinclair and Isgrove looked speedy on the wings but Liverpool were well organised and we had few chances with Lee Barnard as the sole striker. You could see why Liverpool were unbeaten in their group, and they featured a number of young players who'd have already had Prem. experience. Tough luck on Jordan Turnbull deflecting a near post shot past Cody Cropper (for Liverpool's only goal), but our defence held out well throughout a second half rainstorm. Cropper made a number of excellent saves, which L'pool might have won by a cricket score on another day. Not sure if Liverpool had more chances than they did corners, but they could have been 3-0 up by HT. In the second half, Matt Targett and Jack Stephens outstanding, against a rampant Liverpool attack and had good support from Calum Chambers and Matt Young who cleared a shot off the line. We looked most dangerous in the added time after 90 mins.when sub. Albert Seidi put a shot just past far post from an enormous distance, and then a Saints free kick was scrambled away inside the 6 yard box. As they say ...we're on a learning curve but it was a good defensive display against an excellent Liverpool side, and there will be some positives to take form this game - despite the result.
