Proud of the development of this team and manager

After a really troubled start to the season, the side is getting better and better and starting to look at home (on the whole) in the Prem.

NA is also growing as a manager and showing he has what it takes to make us a better side.

People have questioned the signings of the likes of Rodriguez - having watched the whole game against Villa just now he was magnificent and has pace to burn. He will only get better.

Maya and Clyne were inspired signings, Shaw is the real deal and Ramirez shows glimpses of what a player he will be once he gets more accustomed to the pace of the Prem. Puncheon and Clyne have a great understanding on the right.

The normal doomsayers are saying we have no chance, horrible run of games coming up, etc. whilst conveniently forgetting that means we get the really tough games out of the way for the season and our run in looks, on paper, far easier than some of our rivals in the bottom half.

I think we will be fine this season and will only get better next season.

Could not be more proud of our young side and manager - anyone who said we would be in the Prem and holding our own 2.5 years ago would have been seen as crazy and yet here we are.

We really have come along way in 3 years...but some others here seem to have forgotten that when we still have some of the players from the L1 days.

Seems like Schneiderlin has been with us for ages....as too Puncheon who is fulfilling his promise from those L1 days, and of course Adam ......who has been on Saints books for most of his life..

Ricky Lambert seems to have a bottle of the elixir of life ...31 and still going strong, whilst other outfield players over 30, like; Richardson and Guly are counting their games, whilst the youngsters are coming in.

It takes time to settle and one good game doesn't change the season, and with upcoming fixtures like; Chelsea, Everton Man.Utd and Man.City ....it'll be another challenge for thís squad who had scarcely watched a Prem. game before ....let alone played in one. I'm really disappointed with the reaction of some people on this board when they quickly criticise all and sundry... if we don't get a " satisfactory result ".

Playing teams like those is a challenge for most sidesin the Prem. (which is why they are in the top six)....so don't expect coupon-breaking results, and then start links calling for everyone to be sacked. For the faint at heart (or weak in bladder) ...change your nappies and get ready for Wednesdays game....

BE PATIENT....our " seemingly hopeless " position after 10 games, has begun to look a bit different now.

YES, we'll probably have a few more disappointments, but most of us feel that we are good enough to survive now, and start to galvanise the " new squad " into a decent looking outfit for the future.

Great. The old "look where we were 3 years ago" gambit raises its head again.

Really troubles me that threads like this occur after a masively underwhelming victory against the division whipping boys...

I am proud of the L1 run-in, and proud of back-to-back promotions.

I am not proud of our dog-sh*t preparation of this season. I may end up proud of the way we recover from it by May.

you mean you can't remember Alpine ?

Rightly or wrongly ....we still have half the old L1 squad on the books.....you're surely not one of those fans who expected us to conquer all before us and qualify for Europe this season ...are you ?

Looking at some of the other sides around us, I'd say just surviving this season would be some sort of achievement - wouldn't you ?

Oh !... and btw ...I wasn't underwhelmed by yesterday's three points - quite pleased in fact.

Here's an idea. Why not try and not let it "really trouble you"? Instead you could try viewing it as the old "look where we were 3 years ago gambit" raising it's head after a run of 2 defeats in eleven games. It might even cheer you up.

Why do you bother supporting Southampton, or any team for that matter? You do nothing but moan, it's absolutely pointless. 20% at best is justifiable, the rest of what you bang on about is either nit-picking or utterly, utterly pointless.

There's some good things, some bad things. It's not all doom and gloom. Just because someone is reflecting on the past 3 years and how far we've come doesn't mean they'd happily be pleased with battling losses - no-one is. I'm not saying it's just you but a lot of people on here need a sense of perspective. The optimism/pessimism pendulum always swings pretty wildly after any result over the past few months and sometimes it might be a good thing to remember just how far we've come.

It just seems to me that at Saints, even of the past 10-15 years, there's a lot of people who want everything to happen IMMEDIATELY and won't take steady progress as a positive. THEY WANT SUCCESS NOW AND NOTHING LESS WILL DO. Well, it'd be nice if we could save all the whining, *****ing and moaning until the end of the season as it's completely counter productive. Are we going backwards? No. Are we standing still? No. Are we tentatively going forward? Yes.

I'm not advocating anyone disregarding the negatives, that'd be foolish - but for k'sake, we've done a lot more right than we have wrong this year and the players, staff and 98% of the supporters should be proud of how far we've come - and continue to progress.

Well, the usual suspects try to derail this thread with their continuous drivel.

For what it's worth, I'm also encouraged by how this team has grown from the start of the year. The start was always going to be tough, what with our start, but It was a lot tougher than most anticipated - even our squad and management. We've recovered though and are turning into a pretty competitive PL team.

I still hold the belief that the 2nd half will be a lot more enjoyable than people anticipate at this moment in time. This team is only going to get better.

The comment about where we've come from in 3 years IS valid and relevant. It's a tough enough job to get promoted from the NPC into the Prem and stay there. Everyone knows that. To get consecutive promotions and then stay in the Prem is a huge ask, money spent or not. We've got a very decent best XI, but a thin squad, still lots of players in the squad that got us promoted from League 1 - huge praise to them and NA for them making the step up. If we pull it off and stay up, first team players will become squad players, squad players will become redundant and we'll have a much stronger and settled squad.

I think it'll be tight, and can't see us finishing any higher in the league than we are now, but we've got enough to do it. We've got a good record against the other sides in the bottom half, and we've given some of the big boys a really good run for their money. We'll be ok.

I'm also proud to be a saint, proud of the team and the way it is shaping up, especially proud of the players who got us up from the bottom of Lg1 and are still seeing us rise, proud of the manager and his back to back promotions he's held his own nerve and got the players improving at the same time, I wouldn't swop him for anyone in the Premiership. But in the background there is NC who gets a lot of criticism in fact he is the man with the vision who saw the possibilities when we were down and out, and the money which has made it possible. I'm proud of him too and I wouldn't swop him for any of the others out there, we might have had a chap like Storey or the crooks he gathered

We would have developed a lot more if we didn't have a deadweight manager hanging round our necks.

I suppose well could get rid of one of the up and coming managers and replace him with a manager thats been sacked from another team failing in the Premier league.

And yet when we were L1 you did nothing but complain and say Bournemouth were the team we should aspire to be...

When we were Champ everything was done wrong in the off-season and we should worry about the ominous charges of Birmingham and Boro...

I am glad you aren't making the decisions at Saints...

And now we have done everything wrong in the off-season again...

We need someone with premier league experience. With an expert like Les Reed doing the 'upstairs' bit, we should have brought Le Tiss in as a figure head and a talented young coach like Kevin Keegan in to take training. A team of Saints legends would galvanise the fans more than S****horpe's physio ever could do.

completely agree, coming in leaps and bounds.

yesterdays result was three points on the board, abd 6 points from villa. also reminded me of our performance against Leeds last year, away from home, backs against the wall, and a great goalkeeping display. it was results like that that saw us through last year, not 4-0 drubbings.

I think the only points we've dropped against our relegation rivals, from us down, was home against Wigan at the start of the season, to win the rest is pretty amazing, as these points will keep us up this year more than any others.

also think we are due some points against the top 6, one win and a draw from the next 4 'terrifying' fixtures imo, and probably a spanking and a 3-2 loss :-)

in NA we trust

I like Alpine. Say what you want about him but be gets results. All he wants is to be noticed and he certainly does on here. I bet he drops the troll bomb, heads off for some toast and then 15 minutes later smiles as he looks at all 'his' responses.

It's hilarious. I'm still stunned how many people take it all seriously. Sue Whistle for example, who in case you didn't know lives in Italy and has me on ignore, claiming he has depression. It's an internet forum FFS!!! Like you say he is probably p*ssing himself at the amount of clowns biting and taking it all very so seriously.
