Will we ever go back to Red and White?

Watching the Sunderland game now and thinking how similar their kit (including sponsorship position) is to our classic red and white. Stoke also play in same kind of colours.

Is our new red number a deliberate move by the club to create a new individual identity, and improve our brand attractiveness?

If this is the case is red and white assigned to the history books and the new style what we can expect in the future?

yes we've gone away from red and white stripes because too many teams in the premier league are already using that colour scheme. That's why we've basically gone all red. Nobody is using that, are they?

Every other year IMO

I did think that, but I think we may have more than 1 year away from stripes. By all accounts the sash kit and this one have sold better than the stripes kit; I think we may get one more year of non-conventional red and white before a 1 year return to stripes. The Rank Xerox would be superb but it'll probably be something bizarre and wacky that they'll come up with like the idiotic white kit (maybe they'll try and wheel that one out as the home).

Would be nice if they could sort out the cheap plastic sponsor too. I only wear footy kits for 5 a side but still won't buy a Saints one as they are as they look cheap and sh*t with a dirty looking label stuck on the front.

Don't understand how that can be considered to be honest, by anyone other than an idiot.

Can a club ('brand') increase "attractiveness" by ditching its tradition ? I know Cardiff's owners think that, but load of b0ll0cks as far as I'm concerned.

As for all red I can see what poster is saying, however no other teams in the league have the style of kit we are using this season, two have red and white stripe, that's the point I was making.

As for brands being more 'attractive' than others, if this wasn't important for companies people wouldn't spend buvket loads yearly on creating new logos, designs, colour scheming to make them more attractive. Think apple as an example, part of their appeal is the style/colour of the phone. Aesthetically pleasing products can make a big difference (in my opinion)

I thought it was quite obvious that we have gone all red for the 'brand'. We have two Asian players and red is a big deal over there. Clearly trying to open a market.

The only reason we also went for an all white kit is so they can still say "red & white" in the marketing.

No, Liverpool and Forest have used it in the 80's or 90's.

"Brands" ? Who supports a "brand" ? Yes, I know, the investment/overseas argument, but success on the pitch will make us more attractive, rather than a shirt design.

The sash and this years have been best selling IMO because of....Sash being different for a long time and 125th year kit and we were likely to win every week.

This years because we're back in the prem. tbf I wouldn't be against red n white stripes every other year and a less conventional red and white in the others.

The Red/Asia thing is totally overplayed and if you think that signing a couple of asians and playing in all red is some kind of "obvious" marketing masterstroke then you are deluded.

Some sources say Chelsea have 100m Asian fans. And Chelsea wear blue. And, well, win stuff. All the time. We just might need to do that a lot to be big in Asia.

Our all red kit is just fu cking sh it. End of.

Not 100% accurate as the Asian players we have are Japanese (although the Japanese say Kun is Korean), the red thing is mainly a Chinese thing. Other countries with big Chinese populations also go for the red thing and the number 7 etc but the Japanese don't really give a sh!t. In fact I was there just last week and having a discussion about football, saints came up and they said, yeah I know them, they play in red and white, what's going on with the kit this season though? Most people over there that like football know a lot more than we give them credit for (other parts of Asia may differ but the Japanese have been watching the premier league for at least 20 years.

I agree with the OP that the current kit was an attempt to differentiate our kit from Sunderland and Stoke, I don't think that it will be a permanent change.

I think that next season they will move away from the pinstripes to another form of red and white, but with the stripes at an angle or with different widths like the '76 kit.

I think it's as simple as Umbro didn't have a striped template this season and wouldn't make one especially for us. As a result we ended up with the pinstripes and bolted on the all white option as a way of marketing the total kit as red and white. Back to stripes please next season.
