J-Rod "frustrated" at first team chances.

If you actually watch the interview it basically says that he wants to play more, which is understandable. He's played well in a lot of games he's been involved in this season, and is growing into the level which we're playing at. The main reason he's not played that much is because we only play 1 up front, and with this in mind he is our backup for Lambert. Maybe we weren't quite expecting Rickie to step up like he has done to make himself pretty much undroppable, but for the moment he is. He also mentions in the interview, he'd happily play anywhere he's asked and is quite happy playing on the left hand side if needed. Comes across as a decent lad, and will be an important player for us.

Ronaldo cost Manu £7m that's a decent buy.

Think it was more like £15m

Edit: £12m. Googles! He only got 6 goals first season and people was b!tching at the time bout how United had overpaid.

Anyone else find it odd that the Beeb are right on the pulse for this yet haven't (as far as I have seen) covered Luke Shaw committing his future the the club. The site as a whole now is rubbish.

A player wanting to play more football IMO is a good thing, the lad is young and hungry its more positive than negative that is for sure

Indeed, he was seen as completely overrated his first season there. All his stepovers and sh*t were never coming off.

Also does anyone else remember how completely useless Drogba was when he first went to Chelsea? He was a right donkey to start off with.

He should play more. He's clearly a more complete player than Lambert, and has a good scoring record. Adkins signed Jay to lead the line for years to come and needs to play him soon if he is to avoid losing him.[/quote

Oh dear... a more complete player is he... better ball control, better passer, better vision, stronger, better in the air... sure he is... dream on

He's a talent, but has had to make some adjusting to life at this level, but for anyone wondering about his ability and quality to play at this level then just re-watch his goal against Chelsea.

It was pure class. The run off the shoulder of the CB, the first touch which killed it and took him into goal, and the deft little flicked finish to take it into the back of the net. If RvP had scored that people would be raving.

He is an incredibly gifted player in my eyes, but his chances have been limited mainly due to the fact we seemed to enjoy employing him out of position. I think he's looked very effective through the middle in recent weeks, both from the start and as a sub.

I still think jay rod doesnt contribute enough to the, team when he comes on.

Ok he puts himself about a lot. But his ball retentions poor.

Alot of the time he runs into blind alleys basicly a lot more moves seem to break down when hes on the pitch.

I think ud get pretty much the same as what u get from rodriguez up front from guly up front.

I cant see why everyone thinks hes going to devolop into the next big thing, gaston is younger than him yet the differance in class is staggering

J-R suffers from the Adkins Way which is to play one loan striker, usually Lambert and because he's up front on his own Lambert often seems to be wandering around to try to get the ball. How often have we played Lambert and J-Rod as a pair?

As 'arry would say, if you don't play strikers you can hardly expect to win. Just over half-way through the programme and Saints have won 4 games out of 20. Nuff said.

I know you're his biggest cheerleader but I would say he's had plenty of chances, he just hasnt taken them. And he hasn't been played on the wing for months now - starting with the 2-2 against Fulham, he's been played through the middle every game he's featured in.

well that's bulls1t. it was a top class finish, I can name quite a few premier league strikers who wouldn't be capable of that - let alone do it every week.

i can name plenty that do so most weeks....

it was a good finish...lets not pretend it was world class....a finish like that wont bat an eye lid away from saints web as it was just...errr, good and nothing more

well your original point was that every striker does it every week, obviously not true, I really don't see the need to constantly put down the players and the manager.

agreed its mayuka and tadanari lee that should be frustrated. Ask yourself this do you think either mayuka or lee would have done much worse than jrod with the time on the pitch hes had

im not putting anyone down..just saying many players in the prem take a touch and find the corner.....in response to saying "we would be raving if RvP done it"

Of those victories, have you looked how many we won playing with one up front, and how many with 2 up front?

Just looked at the stats. We have played 2 up front in 8 games, from which we have gained 4 points. With 1 up front, we've gained 14 points from 12 games; more than double the average points per game with one less striker.

Not only does this prove that we are a far better team when we play 4-3-2-1, but it also proves that Harry Redknapp is an idiot if he thinks you need to play two strikers to win games.

I liked him as a Championship striker, i also like him as a future asset but in a relegation dogfight i don't really want him to play. As someone has already stated, he's best when playing 2 upfront but everytime we play like that we play badly, our best formation is the 4231 by a long shot, we seem to score goals and play a lot better football. If he can't adapt we need to try someone else. £7m is a lot of wasted money atm, i'd much prefer Lee coming on either for Lambo or playing behind Lambo if we need a goal, they both played very well together last season getting us victories when we needed them. Sorry for all you JRod fans, but he has not convinced me as a premiership player yet and if he needs time, that time could cost us premier status.

Please explain what Lee has done to convince you he is a better option than Rodriguez.

I bet he is. Needs to work on getting more involved in matches and being more than just someone who runs with the ball up front, I think.

Apart from worldies like Messi and Ronaldo, most of the strikers that bang the goals in tend not to be involved that much. Rodriguez isn't Lambert and he'll get nowhere by trying to be a tribute act. The team just need to work on adapting to his game. As strikers go, his interplay is quite good and it's not like carrying an out and out poacher. Keeping the ball and moving it around is what midfields are for. Strikers shouldn't have to do it because they can score a lot more goals by leaving the play behind. 442 is hard to do in this league and there isn't a second striker to run ahead in a 4231. Adapting our style will be the difference between staying up and going down. Might seem odd, but Lambert needs to learn to be more selfish and have more faith in the people behind him.

I'm frustrated at the £7m price tag when we could have got somebody just as bad for £1m-£2m
I don't think jay rod was a waste of money at all, he has had pretty limited chances and the more clueless think it's all about goals .. his attitude, workrate and work off the ball is excellent.I see the investment anyway.. Give him the chance and i think we will see the finished article, thank god we this f ucking forum represents the minority.

Spot on. He's improving every game and is starting to look a good player. Of course, he's guaranteed to improve what with him being young and hungry and all that.
