would you take a point at Villa if offered now?

absolutely not...we need wins.

we have thrown away enough points to suggest that we need a win now...

they are woeful at the mo and a point would be a disappointing result imo

This

Even though in the long run it might be enough, it would be ideal now to start trying to kick on and put some space between us and teams below us, which I feel could have happened. Other than Sunderland I think we have got some good points last few games, would be a shame not to capitalize on that again!

Depends on our line up, if we are missing Clyne and Ramirez I would take it but with only Lallana and Fonte missing we should be in with a decent chance of 3 points.

Interesting stat for Chelsea - Home they have only won 2 out of 7, Away 6 out of 7 so a point there may be in reach!

No way! I'd very rarely ever settle for a draw before the match. Especially against such a poor team. A win tomorrow and that put Villa right in it and lifts us away slightly.

Why accept 1 when there are 6 on the line? Villa are awful. There aren't many away fixtures where, as a saints fan, I'd be disappointed not to win, but after fulham and stoke, I'd expect to do what Wigan did to them.

I suspect Villa fans are thinking the same about us.

at the end of the season a point may be vital. Watching Saints for so long that i expect us to slip up and will be begging for a draw come the 90 minute mark

The voice of experience. A point at Villa Park is always a good point. There home record is sketchy this season but all the same, avoiding defeat there is almost as good as a win frankly. We all hope nay expect nay demand all three points but if we get caned 3-0 its still not the end of the season. A hard-fought draw, picking up another away point is another brick in the foundation of team confidence to play anyone anywhere in this league and be competitive, especially after the nonsense of Chelsea which was certainly a set back considering the likes of Swansea can go win 2-0 at their place a few days later. Not losing away at Villa saturday will be a good result for me.

I expect they also see it as a winnable game as we can expect it to be quite open.

However on form, we are far better than them We have got some decent respectable results lately while they have been hammered 3 times and lost to a league 2 side.

I would expect a back lash for the first 20 minutes, but if we take control and get a few good chances they will become nervy and it will be ours for the taking.

As OldNick says, I fully expect to be begging for a draw on 90 minutes.

And its a 'NO' from me. Draw every game, which we can't anyway with the season half gone, and you would finish unbeaten on 38 points, and be relegated. You must win games in this league and we haven't won enough. Its time to start winning regularly because other teams at the bottomn will do so from now on. Almost halfway through the transfer window, and if any signings are not until the last minute we will have to conclude that the management/owners are not that bothered about being relegated, but they do have time to rebut that suggestion in the next week.

If we really have a desire to stay in the prem this is a must win game, anything less than a win, is not good enough.

villa are a poor side in poor form, and if we cant beat them it will be a massive confidence dent for the boys!

i do believe we will go there and get the job done, but i think it will be close im going a tense 3-2, punch and ramirez x2 with the goals!

I read the title as "pint", disappointed.

This.

And fwiw, this really is a must-win. We desperately need a win and a bit of momentum, I know theres plenty of season left but if we cant take 3 points off Villa away we arent likely to pick up away wins anywhere else.

I would say win or bust, but with Fonte and Lallana missing, and potentially Clyne and Ramirez, I think I would take a point right now. Especially as we haven't yet signed anyone to cover Fonte's absence, meaning Jos will play. I can see us losing this one, even with Villa's ineptitude, so yes I would take a point, but to stay up ideally we need to win this.

In the context of the Strugglers League table, in which we're 3.25 points behind Villa:

A LOSS would increase the gap to -4.00 points (Villa gain 0.25 points vs their 2.75 point target, we lose 0.50 points against our 0.50 point target)

A DRAW would cut the gap to -1.00 points (Villa lose 1.75 points, we gain 0.50 points)

A WIN would put us 2.00 points ahead of them (Villa lose 2.75 points, we gain 2.50 points)

So a win would be brilliant but a draw would still be very good.

The key for me is Clyne's fitness. If he's back, we reunite the Clyne/Punch combo that was a big factor behind our improvement AND we put Corky back where he needs to be.

Wounded beast and all that - even Lawro is tipping them.

A draw for them far worse than for us and would crush them more

Honestly I think we need to win it, we don't have many obviously winnable games coming up this month.

Also, the last 4 are 3 draws and a defeat, only worth the same as 1 win, I'd rather have beaten Sunderland and lost the other 3.

Nope. These are the games we should be winning. Villa are possibly the worst side I have seen this year. In the game against a 4th division team (Bradford) they were awful. They have a dire home record and only scored 9 goals. If we cannot win these types of games then we will not stay up.

QPR are the worst side I've seen this year, but they at least have some prospect of change and improvement just by virtue of changing manager. Villa weren't as poor, but nothing much has changed since we beat them - I'm still bewildered that they won at Sunderland and especially at Liverpool, but other than those games they've been terrible in the League.
