NickG Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Luke Shaw signed new contract..signing of the window?
Thedelldays Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/shaw-im-here-to-stay-588971.aspx
DT Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Amazingly good news. Future England stalwart. Well done club. Well done Luke. Great start to the day.
SaintBobby Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 It's not entirely clear whether he's signed a 5 year deal or is just amorphously "pledging his future" to the club, from the OS article.
Thedelldays Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 It's not entirely clear whether he's signed a 5 year deal or is just amorphously "pledging his future" to the club, from the OS article. he clearly hasnt signed one...but seems like saying he will...
Saint_Donovan Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 He hasn't "signed" anything has he? He can't do that until he turns 18 when we can give him a long term contract. He has just said he won't be going anywhere else. Still great news though
CB Fry Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Perfect - that keeps him here until this time year at the earliest, hopefully until the end of next season. Well done The Don.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 I would suggest it is a verbal commitment with view to signing long term contract in the summer. If we was to get relegated (god forbid) I would not expect him to sign and he clearly states playing PL football is what any young kid wants to do. Just hope we stay up as this lad is the real deal and future england leftback.
John Boy Saint Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Shows young Luke is as mature off the field as he is on it. Excellent news nice to see we have the ability these days to screw our young talents to the floor with us rather than them instantly having their heads turned by "bigger clubs".
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 I like it in his interview when he accidentally says we have a few easy games coming up.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Top news. In Shaw & Clyne we have 2 young full backs with the potential to play for England one day.
St.Patrik Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 And to be honest - this shows we don´t need to sell to get money for other signings - so this clearly shows the finances are alright as well.
Barry Sanchez Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 (edited) Really happy with this, for the lad as well as Saints, he will develop and become a better player playing football simply not sitting on the sidelines, of course it means he is not going anywhere as long as we retain our premiership status but thats fair. Edited 10 January, 2013 by Barry Sanchez
S-Clarke Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 very positive news. To the best of my knowledge he can't sign a professional long-term contract until the summer, but it seems to me that everything has been agreed in principle it's just a case of him signing on the dotted line when he turns 18. Goodbye Wenger.
Saint Charlie Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Can only be good news, should stop the speculation until the summer. Its funny that the Journalists on Twitter who constantly link Shaw to Arsenal and Chelsea fail to report news like this!
Pilchards Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 (edited) Can only be good news, should stop the speculation until the summer. Its funny that the Journalists on Twitter who constantly link Shaw to Arsenal and Chelsea fail to report news like this!Correct, because he has failed on this one he moves to the next one which is Adkins close to being axed. If I was Cortese I would arrange for his next visit to St Mary's a bad one. Edited 10 January, 2013 by Pilchards
rooney Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Hard to believe he has done so well at such a young age.
alpine_saint Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Great news, pleased for the club, but who gave sticky power to NickG, who doesnt even pay for the privllege to use this site ?
Saint_clark Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Yeah, he talks about Ward-prowse signing a new 5 year deal and says that's what he wants to do, so i'd wager there's a contract already agreed for his 18th birthday.

Saint Charlie Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Great news, pleased for the club, but who gave sticky power to NickG, who doesnt even pay for the privllege to use this site ? "Great news but..." You are getting too predictable ;-)
alpine_saint Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 "Great news but..." You are getting too predictable ;-) Says the person who wrote in a hissy fit they were never going to reply to me again....
Smirking_Saint Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Top top news, this is the right place for his development right now. Alps please dont derail another thread
Saint Charlie Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Says the person who wrote in a hissy fit they were never going to reply to me again.... I got bored of that. I won't reply to your negative sensationalism but I thinm you have improved slightly since the other day so am happy to talk sensibly!
paris Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Be even happier when he actually signs the deal .............
ottery st mary Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 What a talent. Hopefully at Saints for a few more years yet..
pingwing Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Quality news! Similar to Lallana signing a 4 and a half year deal this time 2 years ago this is some of the most important transfer window news, good players aren't leaving!
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 (edited) Sky reporting that he will sign a 5 year deal on 12th July, his 18th birthday Great news Edited 10 January, 2013 by ALWAYS_SFC
Saint_John Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Correct, because he has failed on this one he moves to the next one which is Adkins closed to being axed. If I was Cortese I would arrange for his next visit to St Mary's a bad one. Exactly the article by Sami Mokbel on the 31 Dec saying that "arsenal were going to open talks" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2255426/Arsenal-talk-Southampton-Luke-Shaw-transfer.html is followed today by the same reporter saying that Nigel is going to be sacked.
Charlie Wayman Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Excellent news. Let's take it at face value and stop thinking all the time that our young players really don't want to be here. It's fans who lack self confidence not the players. None of our lads seem keen to get away and the ones out on loan are pretty keen to get back in. Look at Jason for example, worked his socks off to show he had the talent to be in the team rather than sulk off and bad mouth us just for the hell of it.

Perhaps he should rename himself as Semi Bolloks
SuperMikey Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Great news, think the plan is for Luke to sign a long-term deal in the summer when he turns 18, until now it's a verbal commitment. He's easily got the talent to play at this level for the rest of his career, and has the potential to be an England international. Could get his chance sooner rather than later with Cole on his way out and Baines no spring chicken either.
Junior Mullet Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Big chin, other than that he's a quality player. Will get a lot better too.
SNOWY Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 As long as we stay up he'll sign, if not I've got my doubts. Good article though & ends speculation about any imminent departure.
Dig Dig Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 More propaganda from the OS lapped up by our gullible happy clapping wig and face paint wearing fans
Halo Stickman Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Excellent news Fantastic that Saints are now able to offer home grown talent a future at their own club rather than them having to seek it elsewhere; long may it continue!.
the stain Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Great news, pleased for the club, but who gave sticky power to NickG, who doesnt even pay for the privllege to use this site ? It's certainly a privilege to read your posts and I am happy to pay for them. Thank you (in amongst all the shouting down and sneering that goes on here, I don't think that is said enough).
RedAndWhite91 Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Great news, pleased for the club, but who gave sticky power to NickG, who doesnt even pay for the privllege to use this site ? Perhaps, like me, he got fed up of paying a fiver just to see threads constantly ruined by the same few people... Anyway, back on topic, this is indeed great news. He's got massive potential, didn't Man City bid £4m for him before he'd even made a first team appearance? He'll play for England one day, it's nice to think that that could happen whilst still at Saints. Excellent.
student Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 He's the signing of the window for you in my opinion. Would cost you a good 10m to get a player of his quality otherwise.
Window Cleaner Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 He's the signing of the window for you in my opinion. Would cost you a good 10m to get a player of his quality otherwise. For 10 million you could get a better left back than Shaw in his current state. We wouldn't get 10 million £ if we sold him today. Needs work on getting by-passed too easily.

Dig Dig Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 He's the signing of the window for you in my opinion. Would cost you a good 10m to get a player of his quality otherwise. Who do you actually support?
Window Cleaner Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 ?? Please explain Look at the Chelsea game, the statement will explain itself.
Dig Dig Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Look at the Chelsea game, the statement will explain itself. I don't have the time nor can I be bothered if I'm honest to re-watch the Chelsea game just so I can understand your statement. Wouldn't it be quicker if you explained it?
Saint86 Posted 10 January, 2013 Posted 10 January, 2013 Excellent news Fantastic that Saints are now able to offer home grown talent a future at their own club rather than them having to seek it elsewhere; long may it continue!. Its all thanks largely to two men, one of them has died and we seem to regulary have certain fans bemoaning the other two. What fickle fans we have ^_-
