It's not entirely clear whether he's signed a 5 year deal or is just amorphously "pledging his future" to the club, from the OS article.

he clearly hasnt signed one...but seems like saying he will...

I would suggest it is a verbal commitment with view to signing long term contract in the summer.

If we was to get relegated (god forbid) I would not expect him to sign and he clearly states playing PL football is what any young kid wants to do.

Just hope we stay up as this lad is the real deal and future england leftback.

Shows young Luke is as mature off the field as he is on it.

Excellent news nice to see we have the ability these days to screw our young talents to the floor with us rather than them instantly having their heads turned by "bigger clubs".

Really happy with this, for the lad as well as Saints, he will develop and become a better player playing football simply not sitting on the sidelines, of course it means he is not going anywhere as long as we retain our premiership status but thats fair.

very positive news. To the best of my knowledge he can't sign a professional long-term contract until the summer, but it seems to me that everything has been agreed in principle it's just a case of him signing on the dotted line when he turns 18.

Goodbye Wenger.

Can only be good news, should stop the speculation until the summer. Its funny that the Journalists on Twitter who constantly link Shaw to Arsenal and Chelsea fail to report news like this!
Correct, because he has failed on this one he moves to the next one which is Adkins close to being axed.

If I was Cortese I would arrange for his next visit to St Mary's a bad one.

Great news, pleased for the club, but who gave sticky power to NickG, who doesnt even pay for the privllege to use this site ?

Just because he started the thread doesn't mean it was him that stuck it.

Says the person who wrote in a hissy fit they were never going to reply to me again....

I got bored of that. I won't reply to your negative sensationalism but I thinm you have improved slightly since the other day so am happy to talk sensibly!

Quality news! Similar to Lallana signing a 4 and a half year deal this time 2 years ago this is some of the most important transfer window news, good players aren't leaving!

Exactly the article by Sami Mokbel on the 31 Dec saying that "arsenal were going to open talks" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2255426/Arsenal-talk-Southampton-Luke-Shaw-transfer.html is followed today by the same reporter saying that Nigel is going to be sacked.

Excellent news. Let's take it at face value and stop thinking all the time that our young players really don't want to be here. It's fans who lack self confidence not the players. None of our lads seem keen to get away and the ones out on loan are pretty keen to get back in. Look at Jason for example, worked his socks off to show he had the talent to be in the team rather than sulk off and bad mouth us just for the hell of it.

Great news, think the plan is for Luke to sign a long-term deal in the summer when he turns 18, until now it's a verbal commitment. He's easily got the talent to play at this level for the rest of his career, and has the potential to be an England international. Could get his chance sooner rather than later with Cole on his way out and Baines no spring chicken either.

As long as we stay up he'll sign, if not I've got my doubts. Good article though & ends speculation about any imminent departure.

It's certainly a privilege to read your posts and I am happy to pay for them. Thank you (in amongst all the shouting down and sneering that goes on here, I don't think that is said enough).

Perhaps, like me, he got fed up of paying a fiver just to see threads constantly ruined by the same few people...

Anyway, back on topic, this is indeed great news. He's got massive potential, didn't Man City bid £4m for him before he'd even made a first team appearance? He'll play for England one day, it's nice to think that that could happen whilst still at Saints. Excellent.

He's the signing of the window for you in my opinion. Would cost you a good 10m to get a player of his quality otherwise.

For 10 million you could get a better left back than Shaw in his current state. We wouldn't get 10 million £ if we sold him today. Needs work on getting by-passed too easily.

?? Please explain

Who do you actually support?

Look at the Chelsea game, the statement will explain itself.

I don't have the time nor can I be bothered if I'm honest to re-watch the Chelsea game just so I can understand your statement.

Wouldn't it be quicker if you explained it?

:) Excellent news

Fantastic that Saints are now able to offer home grown talent a future at their own club rather than them having to seek it elsewhere; long may it continue!.

Its all thanks largely to two men, one of them has died and we seem to regulary have certain fans bemoaning the other two. What fickle fans we have ^_-
