Is it me or is he looking thinner?

The pic in the Caption Competition thread makes his head look massive in comparison to his body, so I suppose so ! It wouldn't be something I'd have been saying based on his appearances in matches - but then stripes are slimming...

Given that the chances of Ramirez still being a Saints player next season are practically zero, I'd be inclined to suggest we should be more concerned about maximising our use of Lambert. I would happily sell Ramirez tomorrow if anybody offered us £12 million.

You have some strange opinions, Patrick. I doubt we're planning on selling Ramirez other than at a massive profit, and he wouldn't leave for anything other than a bigger club who would have to offer that (at least in the next 3 seasons).

Plus Ramirez isn't going to be next to useless to us in 2 years' time.

Billy Sharp is half the player Lambert is with the ball and he's not the quickest either, but he has a selfish streak that lets him make a run or sniff out a goal at the expense of getting involved in play. Lambert I feel is too much of a team player and that compromises his ability to score goals. Championship and L1 defences just aren't up to much and Lambert wasn't really tested. When we had Rasiak, he would get accused of being lazy (he was tbf), but he banged in the goals because he was sniffing out the openings rather than getting involved. Rodriguez isn't the ball-player or physical threat that Lambert is, but he's not bad in that respect and he has a selfish streak and a bit of pace to pick out the holes in defences.

I think Sharp was great for us in the Championship, but so were plenty of others who aren't what we need in the Prem. We wouldn't sign someone who offers what Sharp does at the level he does, so we shouldn't really consider bringing him back. His movement isn't as good as Rodriguez or Mayuka, and both can do the other stuff he does already. We should be looking, if anything, at buying players who give us an improvement on what Lambert's got.

We also can't play both Sharp and Lambert like we did in the Championship, needs to be one up top and an attacking midfielder who can link play and get involved in play-breaking from the hole. Neither Sharp not Lambert closes down enough to do that. Guly does, Rodriguez has done, Mayuka generally doesn't as much.

Thought this might interest some people in the rumour department, a Rovers fan claims to know a Celtic scout that was at the game yesterday to take a gander at sir Rickie http://www.brfcforum.co.uk/index.php?/topic/107569-fingers-crossed-lambert/?hl=lambert

what would he want to go up there for? A last shot at the Champions League perhaps.

Unbelievable OP.... Without Ricky Lambert in the team we will lose. We have no outlet, we have no one able to hold the ball, no one to compete with the centre backs and no one else to score regularly. Without Ricky against Chelsea we were simply poor going forward. Yes Jayrod looks good, yes Jayrod has pace, but he is no where near as good a footballer overall as Ricky. He may be 31 but we can still have another two season from him in the PL as our highest goal scorer. If he gets injured we have no one else available to replace him.............

Sir Alex Praises Rickie Lambert As He Demands United Improve Penalty Taking

So far United have missed more penalties than they have scored this season and Fergie admits that it is becoming a concern.Sir Alex told MUTV, "I don’t think it is [just] one of those things, we must improve on that, I must say.

"There's been a lot of talk about the boy (Rickie) Lambert at Southampton, who has scored 31 out of 31 – that’s what penalty-kick taking is all about.

"There have been several other great examples from over the years. Matt Le Tissier scored 47 out of 48 and there was a player in Scotland who played for Rangers [Johnny Hubbard, who scored 65 out of 68]."A penalty kick is your opportunity to take an advantage, whether it was a foul or a handball that led to it. You have to score a goal."
