I've never heard of him, but if thedelldays says he'd be a waste of money then I agree.

Quite. It does amaze me that some people are so knowledgable about players that 99% of us have never heard of! Google/Youtube suddenly makes everyone an expert and more knowledgable than our management team.

I'd find it strange if Aston 'youngest team in the league desperately need experience' Villa are in for him.

I would say it fits perfectly. Outsiders say they need experience but Lambert refutes that. They need quality more than just experience IMO.

The only difference you'll see from Lambert this month is that he'll have money to bring in expensive and in all likelihood better young players rather than cheap ones from L1 and the NPC. Their Chairman is only stingy with the transfer budget until it gets them into serious trouble. Remember Lerner was reluctant to spend in the summer a couple of seasons ago, they started January one point above the relegation zone and he ended up letting Houllier spend 24m on two players.

Signings in the January transfer window are not limited to one per club. It's feasible we sign a quality centre half and a quality attack minded player to help us stay up. It's not QPR style madness, it's realistic pragmatic investment in what is essentially, at its core, still a championship squad. All IMHO of course.

Good player good replacement for Lallana while injured but when both Punch and Lallana are both fit, you wouldn't be able to place this guy on the bench, Punch is the more consistent, lallana is everyone's favourite player so dropping him would cause a fans backlash (yes Saints fans are way to fickle). Would link well with Ramirez but if this does come true the other question is...would too many new faces spoil the team spirit? We need a new defender so that would be either Fonte or Yoshida out (yoshida has impressed me alot) and if we get this guy that would mean Punch or Lallana moving to the bench.

Some of you commenting like its your own money saints are splash, (yes I realise money paid for tickets goes to wages) so long as saints invest in defense then I don't have an issue. Our subs bench is not even champiship standard, if we could bring on Punch etc last 25 and have this player starting then that would be excellent

Dnt forget we can only do one deal at a time so if we are wasting time on him then we are not chasing defenders and goalkeepers.

I can also report Les Reed was out socialising last night not trying to secure signings. This is a disgrace and I hope he'll be taken to ask by it. This is the January transfer window, not June. He has work to do FFS.

Drunken saint - that's what happens when you improve a squad - good players have to get dropped for better ones. If we didn't sign better players we'd never improve.

Top prospect and would be way better than puncheon, don't really see why Inter are selling him unless they have financial issues, but then they aren't playing Schneider.

Lallana with pace is what I would describe this guy as, looked very good for espanyol on loan last season.

Great description, he's exactly that.

Wow. Surely not?

Love that we're linked with these type of players, but really can't see it.

Wow, surely yes. Italy has severe financial problems at the present and has to be looked at the first stop for quality Premier players. A couple of years back and I would agree with you but even the Italians see just having a rumour attached to us as being of value. Our priorities are a striker and a defender, but this guy would certainly improve the team. When you get up near that critical mass for class players, even the mediocre can enjoy the opportunities left in their wake. Ramirez has enough of a work ethic in his play that we will not get unbalanced.

Can't agree with this. Ok Ramirez tracks back but nowhere near strong enough for us to play him Coutinho and Lallana. Would be awesome going forward but we'd let in bucket loads. Were you not at Fulham where Gaston just watched their full back run away from him ?

Espanyol played him on the wings most of the time, he can play either side or in the number 10 role which he's also pretty good at - but seems to be adapting to become a winger more than anything else.

He would be a massive upgrade on anything else we have in the attack at the moment. As good as Jason has been this year, this guy would replace him.

Great if he can play wide, but would he offer any protection to the full-backs?

Posted
He wouldn't ever join us, one of the best young players in world football. Staggered that this could even be possible.

Were you there when Keegan signed then ? ok he wasn't young but there was no way Saints were going to sign the European footballer of the year was there?

Wouldn't be a transfer speculation thread without a pointless Keegan reference, would it?

Do you say that Lallana doesn´t track back enough either??

I was just a figment of my mums imagination in those days.

because we have spent £20m on attackers already...half of that sit on the bench most weeks

what we need is top quality defenders....

where would this lad play..? who would he replace..?

Does the guy have to out and out "replace" anyone? Good squads have more than 11 players in them. If he starts, someone drops to the bench. Flair players aren't famed for their consistency, so options are a good thing to have. At present, one would imagine him playing on the left, although Lallana's return could change that. If he's on the bench, he's an option to change the match and might start the next game if he does so. Any PL team where Steve De Ridder gets game time could use an extra wide option. We've also taken to trialling Rodriguez and Ramirez there, so it's clear that the area could do with seeing to.

Lambert who is going on 31 or Lallana who is crocked for weeks on end every season.

Another South American showboater. Not what we need. Probably just a younger version of Guly.

Yes, I am taking the ****.

Agree with a poster on another thread, that after our pursuit and interest in Ramirez, and Astori, the name of Southampton F.C is a plausible one for agents to leak to the media in Italy now when in negotiations.("price or wage bumper upper" was the phrase used.)

We will of course have positions that are a priority, but that doesn't mean we should turn down opportunities to add quality. Not signing somebody like this just because we're weak defensively (as a squad) is stupid, unless we're in a financial position where it is one or the other. There is no sign that this is the case.

This. Funny how so many can't grasp a simple concept such as this

Lallana and Ramirez do track back, but they're not particularly defensive minded are they. Plus they're both pretty weak. Coutinho is the same kind of player. A 'luxury' player.

Just read on the ever-reliable Wikipedia that when Rafa Benitez signed him in 2010, he said "Coutinho is the future of Inter". Liverpool were interested in him in 2011 apparently.

Honestly can't see it happening though, would love to be proved wrong, but not going to get my hopes up!

100% DD. We need strengthening at the BACK.

It worries me that Adkins is falling into Burley mode...

Look at what ain't right and fix it.

Why are you overlooking the interest in Davide Astori? Saints can make more than one bid at a time.

I'm also stunned at how people fail to understand this quite, simple concept.

Turning your nose up at this potential signing is just plain stupid.

Oh well, might as well forget about that then. He will go to villa and we will probably miss out on Astori as well. I can see us signing Richard Dunne and that's all.

Can't even see us signing Dunne. Will probably just recall Seaborne and add him and Martin to the squad, the club is useless and cannot sign anybody, ever.

I won't turn down anyone who is better than what we had.

But what we NEED is a goal keeper, a right back and at least one, if not two centre backs.

The clubs who have succeeded after promotion in this league have built from the back.

We have plenty of creativity and goals in us.

What we cannot do is defend a lead. If we could, right now we would be THIRD in the league...

With our awful transfer activity, we are sure in for an embarrassing second half of the season. Starting to think that Saints Charlies infamous drop out of the league idea maybe isn't such a bad one after all.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with what you say at all, buty it just seems like you're assuming that our interest in this guy means that we're not working on signing CB's or other positions.

As has been said many times, clubs work on multiple deals for multiple players over multiple weeks.

All this assuming is just based on media leaks, that's it. The club haven't told us who they're after.
