Saint Garrett Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Woeful yesterday, the amount of balls that didnt get past the first man was ridiculous. Missing Lallana big time in this department. Even when Ramirez takes them he'll have a few which are superb deliveries with 'whip' but too few get to their target.
Sour Mash Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Lallana isn't much better. We miss Fox badly in this regard, although it's not enough to recall him for.
saint lard Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 That's where Joe Cole is worth his place in a side.
The Kraken Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Our ability to not beat the first man on such a regular basis boils my p*ss at times; there's just no excuse for the terrible standard of delivery we constantly see.
Legod Third Coming Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Our ability to not beat the first man on such a regular basis boils my p*ss at times; there's just no excuse for the terrible standard of delivery we constantly see. The best delivery was from Guly against Arsenal. His corners were the best we have seen this season.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 January, 2013 Author Posted 6 January, 2013 Guly's were pretty crap yesterday! Just very frustrating, we get a bit of momentum and then a free kick or corner is just cleared without pressure!
Chez Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Guly's corners have been better than anyone else's this season. Lallana's are poor. Can we get Chamberlain back, his corners were the best I've seen at SMS.
SaintNeil90 Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 We had this conversation at the game but decided that quite a lot of corners/free kicks these days don't beat the first man, not just ours.
VectisSaint Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Guly's were pretty crap yesterday! Just very frustrating, we get a bit of momentum and then a free kick or corner is just cleared without pressure! As said they were very good against Arsenal, I didn't see the game yesterday but assuming he took some, I wonder whether he was instructed to take different type of corners given that Lambert was not playing. His corners against Arse were some of the best seen this season, quite a revelation.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 January, 2013 Author Posted 6 January, 2013 To be fair, I missed the Arsenal game, and was pretty drunk when I watched it on TV.
Chez Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 His corners against Arse were some of the best seen this season, quite a revelation.they weren't that bad yesterday either. Much better defenders. Ivanovich, Cahill and Luis had great games. Chahill looked as good as I've ever seen him.

Even when Ramirez takes them he'll have a few which are superb deliveries with 'whip' but too few get to their target. Lallana's are generally rubbish. Fox, Guly and Puncheon are our most consistent takers.
Kingsland Codger Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 they weren't that bad yesterday either. Much better defenders. Ivanovich, Cahill and Luis had great games. Chahill looked as good as I've ever seen him. I. too, thought Guly put in a good corner yesterday. Furthermore, some of the Chelsea corners, especially in the first-half were woeful, failing to beat the first defender.
Leicestersaint Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Generally very poor - a lot of kick and hope.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 January, 2013 Author Posted 6 January, 2013 Whatever happened to our little clever corners and free kicks 'off the training ground' which we used a lot last season and in L1.
S-Clarke Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Whatever happened to our little clever corners and free kicks 'off the training ground' which we used a lot last season and in L1. We have done a couple of those this year, but we've often cocked it up and it's ended up us being on the defensive as the team break out at us.
saints_is_the_south Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Guly did put in one excellent corner yesterday at 1-0, right in the mixer. Why nobody got on the end of it was beyond me, would have been a 5 yard tap in. Other than that I agree they were very poor. AL is not much better with corners tbh. Best set piece deliverer we have is Fox.
ottery st mary Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 I think the groundsmans corners are the best... I have seen at St Marys.... for a long time:p
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Our set piece delivery the past two seasons has been the best I've known it since Le Tissier retired. Quite like the pace and whip on the corners, don't mind hitting the first man frequently considering when we do get it right we look very dangerous. Better than just floating one into the box inviting the keeper to collect or giving the defence plenty of time for someone to get into position to clear.
Pilchards Posted 6 January, 2013 Posted 6 January, 2013 Shame we can't follow the American football style by bringing someone on the pitch for free kicks before getting them off quickly. That will suit Danny Fox!!
