Pilchards Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 Why on earth did we get rid of Coles, been at the club for years and has coached some class keepers. We often talk about the current ones and how dodgy they are, Include Bart to the list as he became a bag of nerves. Then Forepast was a half average keeper who became utter pants... We had two promising young kids that got released as well. Is this the problem then our current coaching setup?
Saint Charlie Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 Forecast was never anything other than crap. No doubting Coles was good but when Davis was playing well the last few years nobody questioned the coaching. It's personnel, being found out at the highest level. Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 I have to say I had been thinking of starting a similar thread. Jim Stannard, our current GK coach, is an ex keeper and no doubt a decent bloke but I have to say from watching him in the pre match warm ups, that he looks pretty unfit and his kicking is itself very poor which could be why the 3 GKs we have don't have the best kicking. Obviously I don't see them in full training but it doesn't look great pre match from what I have observed. Still, professional Goalkeepers should be able to do the basics including kicking but perhaps a change is needed in this area. What's niemi up to these days? John Boy Saint Posted 6 January, 2013 Share Posted 6 January, 2013 Coles was not as great as is lead to believe, most of the keepers he had were not too shabby. If a fat lad in the offy can point out some of the faults of the keeper to Coles, when said lad didn't know who Coles was, and Coles implements what he was told, most of which was bloomin obvious. The bloke is arrogant and struck lucky with Jones then Niemi in quick succession to boost his "Aura".

He's always been an imitation of a professional footballer. Went to the same school as Pulis.
Wade Garrett Posted 6 January, 2013 Share Posted 6 January, 2013 Granger is an excellent coach. Shame he didn't take the job when Pardew was manager.
teacher Posted 6 January, 2013 Share Posted 6 January, 2013 I think you are all missing the fact that Nigel used to be a GK.
Horton Heath Saint Posted 7 January, 2013 Share Posted 7 January, 2013 Instead of our substitute goalkeeper prancing around with outfield players at halftime doing jumpies, shouldn't he be between 'the sticks' and practise shot stopping and crosses. Know they do before match, but why not at half time?

John Boy Saint Posted 7 January, 2013 Share Posted 7 January, 2013 absolutely spot on. Didn't Coles **** off to Fulham on his own accord when Niemi jumped ship? He got the heave ho right on Christmas (not nice) when Burley turned up with his own goal keeping coach, then ended up with good old 'Arry down the skates. Matthew Le Tissier Posted 7 January, 2013 Share Posted 7 January, 2013 There was talk of getting Keith Granger in, not sure if its still on the cards now he's coaching Scotland international side.
