Spot on. Villa conceded 8 to them a week or two ago and looking at the highlights they could easily have matched that against QPR. Absolutely no embaressment conceding 5. Rafa could pick his team by picking names out of a hat and they'd still win.......remember they are FA Cup Holders (4 of the last 6 years)....not to mention last seasons' Champions League Winners..... It's very frustrating when you look back at the number of points we have just thrown away this season from extremely good positions. I'm sold. I'm going to write a letter to Mr Cortese and suggest that "DarrenLeTiss" should replace double promotion winning Nigel Adkins and be put in charge of the first team without delay. We were always chasing the game after that, which we shouldn't. We wont move on from this. We have to play them in a few weeks, and now the team will be **** scared to face them. Been on a poor run playing some crap football. We should be walking this league, like we have done the previous two. In the 2nd half we should have played Chelsea of the park, as we are good enough to win the competition. In fact, anyone got the numbers of the 11 from '76? I must confess that I posted my little pastiche as a satire at the way that some of us actually look at what is said and NOT said and try and put a spin on things to fulfill our our perception on the world. I take what any one says in interview as a small snapshot of the picture they are trying to paint, and Adkins I believe is a confidence manager, in that he looks at positives and tries to build on them, rather than negatives and trying to excuse and blame away any issues. Did the team play ****? No, not for a majority of the first half, and up until Jay goal, dominated. I watch the match and agree with that. Considering the change in the team, yes they did ok, but then Chelsea went up the gear that we don't have, knocked two in and there goes the confidence. That game is already lost. He wants to let them know that yeh, they lost to the current champions, so no shame, but play for 80 mins like the first half against Villa, and Voila. Look what they almost did to Stoke and Arsenal. I and 30,000 other people are mightily ****ed off with the way we seem to leak goals, especially in the latter stages of a game, but no need to grind the players down about it. There is an old expression in the Construction Industry, 'You can only **** with the c-o-c-k you got.' He can only play the players he has at the moment. I'd like us to get some more, like a CB, Winger and Goalie, but just wait and see if we do, and if we don't, don't assume it's because we haven't tried, or we aint got the money, or we're not experienced enough, or no one wants to come here. We will never know the reason why, as this is the way the club wish to do deals these days. You don't know, because they believe you don't need to know, and if they believe you do, it'll be painted red and white before you see it. Now i've got work to do. In fact on another post yesterday when I called him up on his negative predictions for Saints upcoming matches, where he had predicted 1 draw and 5 defeats (we actually had 3 wins 2 draws 1 defeat) he even tried to lie and deny his idiocy, saying that his prediction had been pretty good. Don't get me wrong, its trolling and WUMmery of the highest degree, but please don't try and call it debate. It isn't. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to call for bannings and wouldn't in this case either. In fact I've said before that I enjoy having Alpine around as he's exactly the kind of ignorant and illogical buffoon you need to have around to laugh at their sheer bloody minded stupidity and keyboard thumping anger. Not I'm not fragile at all, but as a tenured member of the forum it becomes tiresome reading the same arguments over and over and over, particularly on threads which would have been otherwise interesting. Add in the fact that Alpine seemingly posts in a way to get a reaction, I would argue is doesn't add to the forum at all. If no one likes a grass, maybe tell your buddy Alpine that who has been in regular contact with the mods on here over the years. I've never contacted a mod at all and at least my thread was open. If someone had done the same thing to you, rest assured that there would have been a similar outcry. This is consistent with my long term stance. A debate is where you exchange ideas, go into it with an open mind and on some occasions allow your opinions to be altered (or even reversed). I'll wager that Alpine has never, ever admitted he is wrong about anything (he has been countless times of course, with some absolutely fabulous whoppers that he still somehow sticks by). In fact on another post yesterday when I called him up on his negative predictions for Saints upcoming matches, where he had predicted 1 draw and 5 defeats (we actually had 3 wins 2 draws 1 defeat) he even tried to lie and deny his idiocy, saying that his prediction had been pretty good. Don't get me wrong, its trolling and WUMmery of the highest degree, but please don't try and call it debate. It isn't. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to call for bannings and wouldn't in this case either. In fact I've said before that I enjoy having Alpine around as he's exactly the kind of ignorant and illogical buffoon you need to have around to laugh at their sheer bloody minded stupidity and keyboard thumping anger. I might be remembering some half-fevered dream, but I seem to remember Alps occasionally changing his stance. Flimsier than wet bog paper as a point, though. Nah, you've mostly got me. Like anyone who posts on here with any regularity, I've had my run ins with our man in Austria. They can be mostly characterised as slanging matches, so you've got a point. That said, I genuinely enjoy our little tete-a-tetes ( soz pedants, can't be arsed going into Character Map for the 'hats' ) and it's good to have a proper ding-dong with someone who won't back down and gets funnier and nastier with each post. So yep, debate it isn't. Boll*cks it was. Having fessed to my crime, I will say that in all the encounters I've had with Alps, the stuff he's chucked my way hasn't been personal; more the generic stuff that we leftie types tend to get labelled with. Water off a duck's back, in other words. I honestly can't say I've reciprocated. I've ripped him mercilessly for his 2 weeks of hell in South Central Hampshire, and all that's been taken in good enough humour. Continuing the Alps love-in, he occasionally says things that I've often thought true of other posters at times, but haven't said it out loud. He's like a release valve. I'm like "yep, he's said it. I don't have to". I too enjoy Alps stubborness, the cul-de-sacs he argues himself into. You have to give a measure of respect for the size of his hauls, and his persistence despite all the abuse he gets back. What I haven't quite worked out is if it's planned trolling or natural talent. For a while there, I thought he might just be on amphetamines like Hitler was toward the end of the war ( yeah, I invoke Godwin ), but an analysis of his posting patterns does not support this theory.
