Will playing such a good side in the FA-cup cost us our premiership position?

Fonte got injured and we have some good players that might be tired for the villa game.

Could the choice to play a decent side cost us our place in the premier league?

The Villa game is a week away. Villa play in the League Cup semi final on Tuesday, they will be more tired than us.

Looks like we might have Astori to replace Fonte.

No, this result won't effect the next 18 results. We lost Adam Lallana in a league game against Reading, seems more likely that will help us get relegated than this result. As others have said if we'd played a reserve team against that Chelsea team we'd have lost by 10.

I think this is ridiculous - if they can't manage two games in a week there is something wrong with them. Last time the players had a fortnight off they were dreadful against Sunderland - better to play more often not less.

Why does everyone keep going on about our confidence being f*cked. How about looking at it th other way that some players will be out to put this right and have a point to prove next week.

Or how about it teaches Adkins that Jack Cork is not a right back, that he was missed at CM, that it gives him more of an idea about how Rodriguez can play up front on his own, and more of a nod to the specific frailities and things to work upon without some of our first choice players and the best ways to combat those in their continued absence.

Yep, and that we have zero strength in depth. At the end we had on 2 17 year olds, Cork out of position, Guly who was awful and our subs were average championship players.

Exactly my thinking. Plus he would have noticed the rust hasn't come off our goalkeeper yet.

'kin bed wetting drama queens.

Agree, I obviously want the best for my team but if we do go down I will still support saints, saints will still be in a great league (championship) and we won't be in a position like Leeds were a few years back by having loads of panic buys on silly wages.

I'm enjoying this season as its good for our clubs profile, even if it is only for 1 season (IMO)

I can confirm that the F.A cup is an entirely seperate competition from the Premier league. Regardless of any result you achieve in a the cup, it has no baring on league position at all. The league table will be exactly as it was until the next set of Premier league fixtures are played out.

Exactly why it was somewhat depressing.. our squad's lack of depth was clear to everyone watching this match, as well as square pegs...but with Clyne back. Cork in central MField + Lambert/Ramirez we are a Premiership outfit.
