Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 8 January, 2013 Share Posted 8 January, 2013 This injury is another shining example of why we should've addressed our defence instead of spending money in less important areas. We knew our 2 CB's were the probably the weakest part of the team when we were promoted and failed to bring in any real quality. We've wasted money on a striker when we had Billy Sharp, who I'm convinced would've done a better job that Mayuka. Lets be honest, Yoshida is only marginally better than what we already had.... And that's being kind. Unless we act very quickly we're about to see our season disappear down the toilet.
mulletsaint Posted 8 January, 2013 Share Posted 8 January, 2013 (edited) How come you have nothing to say about the fact we are worse off than 2004-2005 and the next 6 games pose far greater danger than what Redknapp faced at the start of 2005. I've had enough of excuses and those looking thru rose colored spectacles over our position. [/b] Maybe I'm looking at the wrong site but after 21 games that season we had 14 points, were 2nd bottom, had -15 GD and there was seven points between us and 15th place. This season we have played a game less, are two positions higher up the table, are four points better off, four GD better off and there is six points between us and 13th. If true, hardly a worse position. This is a much weaker prem than back then. However we really do need to strengthen at the back ASAP but with the right players. That could take time. mulletsaint Posted 8 January, 2013 Share Posted 8 January, 2013 Same site I used but did it for extra game as most teams this season are a game ahead of us.

You also have to look at the performances to get a better comparison. In 04-05 we were shambolic and looked like a beaten team. This time around we have a lot more belief about ourselves. In 04-05 I thought we were champ bound quite early, morale was so low and Harry was our 3rd manager just that season but this time we have more than a fighting chance. Just need to get that 17th place and it will be job done for this season. Not sure I agree that the prem is any weaker TBH. There are no mugs in this league and avoiding relegation will be a great achievement for me.

Saint Charlie Posted 10 January, 2013 Share Posted 10 January, 2013 Any news? Out for up to 6 weeks according to the Echo who suddenly seem to know everything. Really puts the pressure on in the transfer market if true. Need two new CBs.

And the whole Mayuka/J-Rod/Sharp constellation is plain ridiculous.

It doesnt look good, imo.

Turkish Posted 10 January, 2013 Share Posted 10 January, 2013 Yep. Even Pardew knew you build from the back. And the whole Mayuka/J-Rod/Sharp constellation is plain ridiculous. Is that why his first big signing was Rickie Lambert and we ended up with Neil Trottman in our back 4?
S-Clarke Posted 10 January, 2013 Share Posted 10 January, 2013 We have been seriously unlucky this year in terms of injuries, and who has had them. We've lost massive players for long periods - Lallana, Ramirez, now Fonte, Clyne.....(but should be back soon), Cork etc.. you couldn't pick a worst bunch to be injured, as we have no depth below them. surrey1saint Posted 10 January, 2013 Share Posted 10 January, 2013 Definitely need two new CBs now. My worry is that if we don't sign someone (or 2 ) quick we will get relegated for sure.

I think we now need one fairly quickly (by the Everton game) and then one other by end of window. That plus a decent wide player and we would be looking ok IMO. And a signed contact from Puncheon And a clear indicator of who first-choice GK is (if we are not buying)
Saint Charlie Posted 10 January, 2013 Share Posted 10 January, 2013 And a signed contact from Puncheon And a clear indicator of who first-choice GK is (if we are not buying) IMo the Puncheon one can wait - he is playing well and it doesn't need to be sorted in the transfer window like the CB situation does. CWD Posted 10 January, 2013 Share Posted 10 January, 2013 Even if a new CB had come in this week (and they still might), it was always going to be unlikely that they would be put straight into the starting line up against Villa, so I can't understand the view that the club have made some sort of mess by not buying someone before the game. This - the key is the next couple of weeks. One more injury or suspension over the Villa and Chelsea games would mean going into Everton with Fox or Martin playing centre back.
