Saints vs Chelsea Match & Reactions Thread

Our habit of having a decent half then falling apart and conceding in the last 10 minutes has got to stop. I never thought we'd maintain the discipline and work rate of the first half hour, but we fell to pieces.

Poor in possession, we're forever putting ourselves in the sh*t by trying to do too much in tight areas instead of spreading it and playing the easy ball, and keeping possession.

Glad we're out, in a way. Just hope Jose's injury isn't too bad.

Well thats our confidence shattered and Villas back just before we play them!

Why will that shatter our confidence? Most teams in the Premier League would have been hammered by Chelsea playing like that. Some days the other team are just better - usually when they've spent about three hundred million on players.

Really don't care about the result. Expected to lose and possibly heavily as we have zero strength in depth. My one and only concern is Fonte. I reckon if we don't bring anyone in this week then losing Jose could mean we lose next week and that is much more important.

It shows (obviously) how important good quality cover is in every position. We need to buy players that are good enough to start every week, not for cover as some have suggested for this and other positions. Never buy for cover, IMO, buy to improve the team.

No, no, no. He is not good enough for the PL and will be out the door in January. Have you learned nothing from the experts on this forum?

My mistake entirely...

embarrassing. pick your strongest team

What the f*ck are you on about? The only change that wasn't enforced was Rodriguez in for Lambert, which worked well.

The game was over when he ****ed about with bringing in de Ridder and Lee.

I don't agree. Lots of passion but with little star quality on the pitch. It's slowly becoming Saints reserves vs. Chelsea first XI so a loss is no big surprise... no need for overreactions!

Not an overreaction IMO, I saw very little out there today. Whole team seemed happy to back off and let Chelsea have full reign of St. Marys. There was very little there to get the crowd excited, No crunching tackles, no mazy runs, no sweeping cross field passes.. Nothing. We seemed devoid of ideas today and that's why I am extremely worried ,especially given our recent league form when we have managed to grab draws from the jaws of victory..

If our coaching and management team do their job properly, this won't be confidence shattering but motivation to set things right against Villa. It's a very negative attitude to lose a game and all your confidence for the next game at the same time.

Expected the loss, didn't expect to lose 5-1 though. Not sure how we will fair up at theirs because they made us look extraordinarily average at best and I can see another hammering. Come to think of it I could see a few of these sort of results over the next 7ish games. It does go to show we lack of quality in depth.

But hey lets just sit back and see what happens - you never know this is the Premier league after all.

thought we were pretty good for the first 25 mins or so...or until they equalised..

rodriguez looked really good (when we were on the front foot) and scored a great goal with a great ball by puncheon

but when chelsea got into their groove...there was little we could do..JWP is a good prospect but he had no chance in the middle...both fullbacks got done plenty of times which meant the CBs had to cover more ground...J-rod offers almost nothing in holding the ball up...

it seemed after there 3rd...it was almost a save your energy exercise...

hope jose is ok...did not see a leg brace go on him (as it never i dont think)...but always looks bad if stretchered off...

boruc did well enough...1 fumble and 1 outstanding save...nothing he really could have done with the goals....

one thing...we were all told that QPR beating this lot meant nothing and they are still shyte..so losing to a better chelsea will also mean very little..

a first 11 chelsea vs us with our best players out...always going to go one way

oh well..

one thing that is concerning.....the villa game is so massive and for all the talk of adkins saying we have lost 2 in 10...we have not won many and still below a rubbish villa.....lose at villa and it all looks bleak again

Ever think they were told not to go charging around, flying into 50/50 challenges and risking injury or cards?

We played very solidly for half an hour, but when we went behind, it was obvious we weren't going to get anything from it so eased up. A replay would've been no good for us. I think NA set them up to attack, and win it or lose it.

Wigan, Fulham, QPR, Sunderland with replays they won't have wanted.

pretty sure after Lallanas injury NA said that it was standard procedure to put the leg in a brace unless it was a very minor injury

What really depresses me is the lack of good chances being created by Saints.

Shape was good today for half an hour or so but after we scored Chelsea just seemed to be able to stroll in and around our penalty area without too much trouble.
