hypochondriac Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 We are so going down. We simply arent good enough to compete at this level. And chances are our defence is about to be thrown back into turmoil. And our management are playing latter-day Neros or clever-clever d*cks so we will fail to reinforce in this window. Based on what? This is an FA cup game where we played our reserves and before we have strengthened the squad in the transfer window. We may well go down but I would argue that that will mainly be down to our rubbish start where we took ages to get to grips with the league. Saying 'we are so going down' in January when we aren't even in the relegation zone at the moment (and could even be clear if we win next week) is idiotic and will just make you look even more cretinous if we stay up. Not sure why I bothered trying to talk to you sensibly but there you go.
hypochondriac Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 Oh, I thought Chelsea were a fellow PL team, who in fact we face in the league in the next couple of weeks.... Erm sort of a massive difference between a cup game and a league game, especially because everyone knows our reserves are shockingly poor. Villa lost 8-0 earlier in the year yet are still staying up as it stands. Imagine your reaction had we done the same. Troll.
SaintSteve Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 Thought Guly was one of the best of a bad bunch today. People moan at Guly because they know it won't be controversial. The bloke doesn't deserve it whatsoever. P.s fair play to him getting to 100apps for us! Well, I've backed Guly on numerous occasions, but today, he was truly woeful.. but its Chelsea nad we can write off games against their best side. Just move on.. Alright Dave Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 Boruc had no chance with any of the 5 goals! To blame him is just pathetic! Yoshida and Fonte struggled with Ba today, and the movement of the 3 behind him unsurprisingly caused us issues. Cork needs to play CM with Morgan, Davis and JWP not strong enough and headless chickens most of the time! We need Clyne back fit, Cork back in the middle and two signings of a CM and CB (especially in Fonte's potential lengthy absence)! All the slating of Guly, De Ridder and Lee is pathetic, none have barely had a kick this season and the later have invariably been given 10-15 mins to get into a game for the first time in 6 months to a year. Keep the faith guys! I still think with our best side out and a couple of strong Jan reinforcements we can stay up! Which is all we should ever have been looking to do anyway! Who gives a ****e about the FA CUP!
CaneNero Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 Fonte's injury is gutting, really sorry for him but it looks pretty serious. We were never going to win this but I admit the manner of defeat doesn't do our confidence much good. Flat atmosphere and the mass exodus of so called "fans" 10 minutes before the end ****ed me off. We need to make some signings now, I'd say at least 3.

Entirely predictable moronic post. I notice you were surprisingly silent last week when we outplayed Arsenal (who, last time I checked were also a fellow Premier League team). If we were competing with the likes of Chelsea to stay in the league then we'd all have to agree with you, but we aren't. Villa lost 8-0 at Stamford Bridge, but I bet you don't think they are 'so going down' We didn't have our best side out today, they did and we got spanked - but the score line was made to look flattering by some pretty dubious reffing. We will strengthen, we will play our best side and we will stay up...there are comfortably three worse teams than us in the league (but I'm guessing you didn't actually think about that when you wrote your post). Why Benitez played a stronger side today than in the league!!! he knows they won't win the League, just need to finish 3rd or 4th. FA Cup is a definite trophy to win. Saints Warrior Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 I am sick to death with clubs taking the **** out of fans. If you not going to beat the opposition anyway and have that attitude then pull out of the game. Or let season ticket holders in for free and the rest for £5. This was a massive dissapointment, a total breeze for plastic chelsea. I cant remember in the 70s and 80s and 90s Saints deliberatley drying to get knocked out of cup games, what the ****s wrong with this club following other plastic clubs. What a waste of money, waht a waste of time. Block 36/35 emptied out with 19 mins to go, YES SOUTHAMPTON FC thats with 19 mins to go and that shows what a totall waste of space and time this game was. A pointless load of rubbish that will turn away the many kids and families that paid to go to the FA cup game. Its not a transfer window we need in Jan, its the doors, roof the whole bloody house. Dodgy first half, couple of fumbles, flapped at a cross that he was lucky to get away with, made a couple of good saves, throwing out very good, kicking so so, didn't get anywhere near any of the goals. I still think he's an accident waiting to happen. For now he's also probably the best option we have.

Spilled two easy saves midway through the first half; one of which missed the post by a whisker. Caught a couple of crosses ok. One very good save from a close range header and not at fault for the goals but might have got a more firm hand on the first to prevent it going past him. Wasn't a great performance, wasn't a terrible performance but there is clearly a confidence issue. We need a new keeper IMO.

dubai_phil Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 Well, I hope all those calling for a full strength team in the Build Up thread have now seen why that was a bad idea. The result is irrelevant (apart from making some posters' day). The disaster is the injury to Jose. Boruc kept it down to single figures even the biased taters admitted he made some good saves to keep us in it. Everyone else on the pitch went home early. Stopped playing with any purpose or intensity once we went 1-0 up. Oh and I WISH I had a fiver for every time I have heard a tater said Puncheon needs to lift his head up. Chez Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 (edited) Chelsea looked more like European Champions than when they won the Champion's League. Mata and Hazard are two of the best players you will see and there were plenty of other very good players in their team to admire. Sadly admiring the opposition was all we could do second half as we just couldn't seem to get near them. Taking Morgan off killed any chances we might have of competing in the midfield, which meant 40 minutes of chasing shadows. Such is life. We've come a long way in two years, but there is a long way to go if we are to compete at that level. Boruc 6 kicking much better, although far less requirement. Throw outs really are excellent. Looks too casual to me, but better that than a rabbit in headlights. Yet to see him make a top class save. I assume he has that in him. Cork 7 given a tough game by Moses (another player I like a lot) and then Marin, but he kept fighting till then end, which must be applauded. Where on earth did he disappear to for the third goal? Why are we playing him there though. Richardson has never let us down. Yoshida 4 distribution was shockingly bad, which put us under tremendous pressure in the second half. Even with options he couldn't pass to one of his own. Didn't get tight enough either at times, but when he did he fouled. When stretched by quality strikers like Ba he does not impress. Fonte 6 pretty decent game considering the relentless attacks. The third goal went in far too easy. The injury could hurt us badly as he has been in great form. Shaw 6 very good first half, didn't seem to be able to get forward at all in the second. Guly 5 OK out wide, but when given the attacking midfield role he supposedly played in Italy he was non existent. That free role demands much more. Neither he nor Ward Prowse offered nearly enough. Might as well have gone with an extra striker and booted it down the channels. Davis 6 good first half but not good second Ward Prowse 5 putting to one side he's only 17, he didn't have his best game. I thought he not Morgan should have been subbed. Knowing that he is 17 this was great experience for him. Morgan 7 Thought he was having a very good game, our best player so to take him off when we went 1-3 down meant Adkins had given the game up. Rodriguez 7 great first half, but with no service what could he do? Made a lot of runs and perhaps tired himself out. Needed help us there. Maybe bringing Lambert on and going long would have been better than adding de Ridders non pace. Jos - won everything in the air. I' confident he will do a job next week now we need him. Time to get behind the lad. de Ridder - usual busy stuff that led to nothing. Game was done by the time he came on to be fair. Lee - he is not a right midfielder so why bother putting him out there? Get Reeves on and give him some more experience. Edited 5 January, 2013 by Chez

I would suggest that a team that 'should' have beaten one of the top 4 therefore 'should' beat a lot of the teams lower down the table hence doing enough to at least give them a chance of staying up...but of course you don't think like that. And as for a thumping being a 'return to form' we haven't been thumped or outclassed like this at any point in the season other than at the Emirates..in all others we have at least been competitive and had a chance of getting something. In case you hadn't noticed, we are unbeaten in 4 in the league, a run which included difficult trips to stoke and fulham and a tricky home game with Arsenal (oh but of course that counts for nothing as we are clearly going down). alpine_saint Posted 5 January, 2013 Share Posted 5 January, 2013 How can you even make a statement about our transfer activity 5 days into the window? That is completely ridiculous. And before you start, no our activity in the summer was not poor. Quite easily, old boy. We are fighting relegation because of persistent weaknesses since August. Resolving them with transfers, before 4 more games go by without wins, should have been straightforward. Theres been enough time to prepare during the closed window. Ba was signed by Chelsea in time to play today, and that was one of these oh-so-complex-multi-millon-pound deals... You stated that we are 'so going down' I would argue that in making that statement, you have seen enough in all our performances to make predict that relegation is inevitable...yet at the same time you are trying to say that the same team, should have beaten a team chasing the top 4. Oh deary me. First of all, Arsenal were outside the top 4 when we played. Secondly, they were sh*t last week. Thirdly, one good effort does not make a season. We have lost 19 points following taking the lead. Absolutely criminal. Your rationale is b*ll*cks. And as for a thumping being a 'return to form' we haven't been thumped or outclassed like this at any point in the season other than at the Emirates..in all others we have at least been competitive and had a chance of getting something. Who said anything about thumpings ? I am talking about losing points, even games, after taking the lead. So what we are unbeaten in 4 ? We are dropping home points more often than a whore drops her knickers, including Sunderland, which for me is crime of the season (or maybe that was Fulham home) It is no wonder nobody on here takes you seriously.
