patred44 Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 our academy is the envy of the biggest clubs. No sooner any of our lads show signs of being any good the vultures start circling.. Luke Shaw their latest ?? OH NO.. it seems his potential replacement is also causing them to slobber in anticipation.. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/01/04/3645637/-?
yellow&blue Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 "Shaw has been consistently impressive in the Premier League this season, and boss Nigel Adkins felt compelled to warn off potential suitors before he again caught the eye in Tuesday’s goalless draw with the Gunners" Well if they can't even get simple facts like getting the score right then I doubt they are even correct with their story.....
Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 What is it with us and LB's?! Good news though.
Pilchards Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Ha ha I love the fact we have so much great young talent at the club. It would be amazing if we could stay in the premiership and then bring in these super kids and enjoy them without having to worry about the big guns. I also love the fact that Cortese has a vision and he will not let any young player leave unless it was stupid money. The club have a simple setup. Keep the best young players. Pass like Barca. Give youth a chance. Improve the training ground. Play the same system from the under 8's to the first team.

Worry about it if/when it happens I remember Jamie White being linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid at a similar age!
tajjuk Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 nd the long-term successor to Luke Shaw Eh? Long term successor to a 17 year old is another 17 year old.
brmbrm Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 We'd never try and scout young players from other clubs. Absolutely not. Despicable. Not until they are 30 anyway, and have paid their dues.

John Boy Saint Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Just to add another Bird to the thread: That is a bloomin Rook that even with the highest academy status "richer" bigger clubs can just roll up and pilfer younger players at a fraction of their value before they reach 18.
stu0x Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 An interesting one, and one that highlights a potential loophole in the EPPP. It seems ludicrous (*if* the supposition is accurate - a very big if) that despite having a Cat One academy, we could have an academy player taken away from us at a fixed fee without our consent, potentially by a club with a lower rated academy, when the whole point of EPPP is to ensure young players spend as much time as possible at the highest rated clubs. I would assume that provision is in place (or if not already, will be hastily implemented) within the EPPP to say that this rule only applies to 'buying' clubs with a higher rated academy than the 'selling' club. Otherwise the incentive to get to Cat One is completely undermined.
Rational Rich Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 I read that and thought it wa a story planted by the lad's agent to try to get him a pro deal off the back of the Shaw hype.
Toomer Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 So we drew 0-0 with the Gunners then on Tuesday, if they can't report the correct score from our lasy game I would be inclined to take no notice of this.
Sour Mash Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 So we drew 0-0 with the Gunners then on Tuesday, if they can't report the correct score from our lasy game I would be inclined to take no notice of this. WHy? The score is an obvious error, but you'd have to admit it would be a pretty pointless story to just make up?
Mowgli Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Given that Bale has successfully converted to a more forward position, I would reckon there is room for both Shaw and Taggart in a future Saints team, overlapping on the left. I remember David Jones started Wayne Bridge in left midfield before left back because he wanted him to understand what sort of ball a player wants to receive in that position.

What about Targett - would we have room for him as well?
Miltonroader07 Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Absoulutely mental that we support these kids from the age of 6 or 7 and the Vultures swoop. ****es me right off !!
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Sounds good, him and Shaw can play LM and LB
tajjuk Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Not sure he's blond enough to be a good prospect When you look at the description page on the OS about the first year scholars, whoever wrote it Targett seems to be one of the least rated from the bunch. We should probably be more worried about clubs pinching the scouts that seem to find all these players.
