hypochondriac Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Have about four to six mates and we are planning to go to Wigan away and stay in Liverpool for the weekend. What would be the cheapest and quickest way to get down there?
melmacian_saint Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Up there sound more appropriate If you don't mind means Megabus run a few cheap lines up there, but the quick part really is left in the cold. I'm guessing Wigan is only really served by local transport, so anything will have to involve changing in Mancs or Liverpool. You could probably get a good deal up on the Cross Country right now, otherwise London calls. However, I'm not sure CC serves Liverpool, but there are plenty of cheap ways between both big cities.
Dangermouth Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Try checking out the budget airlines e.g. Flybe and then look at local transport. Might get a deal to make it more worthwhile than the £100 return the train'll cost.
thefuriousb Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Trains run direct from Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan North Western (?). They appear to be pretty regular. Most seem stopping services (45-50 mins) but there is one that takes about 30 mins. Train station looks to be about a 20 minute plus walk to the ground. I too will be staying in Liverpool as I am staying the weekend with friends. If there is a group of you, car & tak of petrol will probably still work out cheaper than the train from Southampton or plane. Coach will be cheaper but tedious

hypochondriac Posted 4 January, 2013 Author Posted 4 January, 2013 Thanks for the serious replies! Megabus looks to be a viable option. It takes 6 hours but may be the least objectionable option.
PhilippineSaint Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Hitch a ride on my chopper Is that another Savile quote ??
This Charming Man Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Thanks for the serious replies! Megabus looks to be a viable option. It takes 6 hours but may be the least objectionable option. The train takes 2hrs from London and there are still some cheap fares to be had, I only booked mine the other day.
