Valesaint Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Any recommendations? I have been using Clinique for years but it has got really expensive and doesn't seem to last as long as it did. I like a bit of luxury but appreciate one that is value for money. I suppose I could add to this thread a supplementary question as to how long your razor lasts?
Spudders Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Gillette series gel for sensative skin Make razors last longer by not shaving
rocknrollman no2 Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Take a tip from me and buy a bar of soap and a shaving brush. You will never need foam again.
trousers Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Sainsbury's own brand gel. Not sure why anyone would want to spend more on egotistical brands.
egg Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 I ditched clinique m for the same reason. Gillette, Nivea etc don't compare. Original source is cracking value and believe it or not the lidl sensitive gel is amazing.
solentstars Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Sainsbury's own brand gel. Not sure why anyone would want to spend more on egotistical brands. Agree its good and the shaveing gel lidl stock is good as well. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Bearsy Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Gillette series gel for sensative skin Make razors last longer by not shaving It's not a shaving foam but Gilette do this thing called Thermal Scrub or something, and what happens is when you squirt it out into your hands and lather it up it goes boiling hot! It's 'mazing! Like Magic! I recommend you all got to Asda or whatever and buy some immediately! I use it v.regularly and my skin is super fly!
aintforever Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Just buy the cheapest foam possible, it works. I can upload a pic of my hairless chin if you want proof.
Valesaint Posted 3 January, 2013 Author Posted 3 January, 2013 King of shaves Tried that. Couldn't get on with it.

gaz Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Gilette Gel is good forme but more often than not, the can loses propellant (or the foam sets inside the can), meaning you're chucking away about 1/3rd to half a can every few weeks.
TopGun Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Pay the extra and stick with Clinique. There are no substitutes IMO.
swannymere Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Don't try Shaving Oil unless your razor has 2 blades or less, anything more and they clog up. I personally don't like the soap and brush technique as it dries my skin out. For those with dry/sensitive skin i've found the King of Shaves sensitive skin range of shaving Gel is pretty good as is The Source Aloe Vera shaving gel. On the subject of Razors i've gone back to using a 3 blade head as anymore just seems to clog up regardless of shaving gel/foam or oil.
Pugwash Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 Used Gillette sensitive for years - Gels only, the foams are rubbish. Then discovered Elemis. Expensive, but use very little so it lasts a long time, and really good. Get it at John Lewis in the women's section. Nice after-shave as well.
Bearsy Posted 3 January, 2013 Posted 3 January, 2013 I don't often wet shave but I always buy new razor when they add another blade. Gillette and Wilkinson Sword is having a right battle! I wonder where it will end? My current razor has 5 blades but I'm thinking they can get a few more in there at least. I also like the ones with the battery in that vibrate I thought it was stupid gimmic but it does totally eliminate razor burn!

John Boy Saint Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 I use the Nivea extreme(?) gel in the Silver can. Seems to go on and on not the cheapest but if you keep your eye out at Boots they have 3for2 a few times a year, it doesn't go off so I stock up and the price becomes acceptable.

Mercadona Gel de afeitar, bargain at 0.89€ ;-)
SO16_Saint Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 ive been out of shaving foam for weeks, and have been using normal soap - or sometimes, just water. hurts like buggery. Bought some new stuff, Nivea sensitive, I think, today. Sadly, I cant wait to use it and not be in pain after a shave.
derry Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Lidl do a good German foam normal & sensitive grey or black aerosol. Gillette 2 sensitive every day, throwaway after 7 days.,
Northernsaint Posted 4 January, 2013 Posted 4 January, 2013 Nivea gel ftw lasts ages and feels great Come On You Saints
TopGun Posted 5 January, 2013 Posted 5 January, 2013 (edited) I guess the point is that if you have weedy stubble, then any old crap will do the job. If you have an iron brusque that cuts the back of your own hand when you scratch the underside of your chin, something very proper is required... both in terms of the soap and the blade. #clint Edited 5 January, 2013 by TopGun
Ruffo Posted 7 January, 2013 Posted 7 January, 2013 Molton brown has a nice shaving gel. Smells like cucumber.
