Tamesaint Posted 1 January, 2013 Share Posted 1 January, 2013 I thought that both Chamberlain and Walcott showed class when they left the pitch. Both of them had not played well. Even when he swapped wings, Chamberlain got no joy from our defence. Theo did nothing special during the game - but both of them acknowledged the home fans when they left the pitch. Theo did almost a complete lap of the stadium. I appreciate that it is very unlikely but what a way for us to make an impact in the football world if we were to "bring Theo home" during the summer after his contact runs out. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 1 January, 2013 Share Posted 1 January, 2013 Funnily enough I though both AOC and Theo were very underwhelming today - I'd have both of then back in a 'New York Second' if we could afford them mind ...
Spudders Posted 1 January, 2013 Share Posted 1 January, 2013 Was nice of them to clap our fans and us to clap them, but I thought our fans signing their names/songs was a bit cringeworthy to be honest
pingwing Posted 1 January, 2013 Share Posted 1 January, 2013 Both milked it to be honest. Theo was nice to give a clap, didn't need to loiter about the pitch for 10 mins, been years since he's been here... AOC nice of him to walk up and say hi to everyone, thought that was nice as half the squad played with him in l1 or were in the youth team with him. Didn't need to tour all the stands, had his applause and that's enough.

Sour Mash Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 Fair play to the two players, but what is weird is seeing some Saints fans putting more effort into singing their names than getting behind their own side, our support for such a big game was very poor today. Agreed, New Years Day games and Boxing Day games always have subdued atmospheres, but I thought today would be different.

I think will may see him in a Saints shirt once again sooner rather than later. He was through on Goal but decided to back pass to corzola Mmmmm I wish ???????? Lord Duckhunter Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 They seem two decent young men. Can you really blame either for leaving, because I can't given where we were and what was on offer. LeBenali Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 Thought Chambo would get a booed by some (as this was the reaction some gave him at the Emirates) however I'm glad the idiots kept quiet and thought the reaction of both players was brilliant and not 'milked' at all. JackanorySFC Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 Theo showed class (after the game, thought he was marked out of it during the 90 mins), think he's a top player actually and would have him back tomorrow. Did the old "hero worship" gesture at the Northam which I though was a nice touch, I had a ST there in the dark, Whisky soaked days of Burley and Theo was the one shining light at the time and even then he used to make a point of being the last off the field after clapping the fans. Arsenal fans can moan all they want that he showed more appreciation to our fans than theirs, however a year ago they were booing his every touch and cheering when he was subbed. I personally like Arsenal as a club but their fans are some of the worst in the country (particularly those at the Emirates) for getting behind their club/ manager/ players when they really need it. No wonder Theo remembered the way he was worshipped and supported here. Good lad. Oxo - *meh* not fussed either way.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 Money grabbing ****s the pair of them What a load of crap. They were ambitious footballers, moving from a Championship team to a team in the Champions League. Even as a Saints fan, I would probably seriously struggle to turn down a move like that. I also, don't buy this 'money grabbing' thing that gets thrown about. I'm 8 days younger than Theo, so feel I'm in a pretty good position to make certain judgements in relation to certain things. I know for sure that turning down the sort of money a side in the Champions League can offer, in comparison to a financially struggling Championship side is going to be hard to turn down. Anyone that says otherwise is deluded or just a flatout liar.
Dellman Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 I was as disappointed as anyone when they left us but in the case of Theo it was understandable because the Club was in chaos and going downhill fast. it was abit differeent for Oxo because we had recovered and were on the up, I reckon his Skate dad had a decisive say in that and so I don't blame either player and I really want them to have great careers, so it was absolutely great, and very unusual in football, to see both players appreciating us and therefore the Club. Top marks all round!
sfc4prem Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 Didn't like the singing toward both, especially bearing in mind it was probably by the same supporters that either didn't sing all game or decided to slag our own players off instead of supporting them. A polite clap would have sufficed for two players that we produced but ultimately left for pastures new.

Smirking_Saint Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 Money grabbing ****s the pair of them I do have to lol when I read this crap on here and on twitter, as if we are a massive club and owe them something, well, we dont. Football is a mercenaries game, in Walcotts case we were on the way down and with chambo we were a league 1 team, what did you expect ? They should stay forever at the mighty saints ? Far more respect that they obviously remember where they come from, but to moan at them for leaving ? Mongs

After the players that acutally do still play for us had put in such a top-level shift, lots of our fans were more interested in clapping and cheering Walcott and Chamberlain than our own players. Got nothing against those two players, just a very odd approach from some of our lot.

stu0x Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 The bog standard way of showing respect to your old club nowadays seems to be not to celebrate when you score. Exceptionally classy of both Theo and Ox to take it that one step further and not try to score.
Restark19 Posted 2 January, 2013 Share Posted 2 January, 2013 Class from both of them, can't see why we wouldn't want to be proud of the players we've produced and pleased when they show the fans and the club the respect that they did. People moan these days that footballers are mecenaries, don't care about the club, thick as sh*t etc. these two (and bale) are definitely none of those things

Got nothing against those two players, just a very odd approach from some of our lot. A few weeks ago some of our fans were more animated when a man dressed in a dog suit danced at half time than they were during the game. You can't legislate for how the silent majority at St Mary's are going to react these days.
